To think £40 for duvet cover is not expensive?

I am considering purchasing this:

www.thewhitecompany.com/the-little-white-company/new-arrivals/british-sports-bed-linen/

or this:

www.lauraashley.com/bedlinen/football-applique-bedset/invt/3553424/

(D)H says "Noone in their right mind would spend that on children's bedding".

AIBU - mumsnet jury do I need to look for cheaper?!

we have a couple kids duvets from the white company. they def stay excellent after many washes.

look online though for codes as 15% off and free delivery usually floating around

TobyLerone · 21/02/2013 21:08

2 sets is posh. My lot have 1 set each. But then again, I have a tumble dryer.

LadyBeagleEyes · 21/02/2013 21:09

If you can afford it go for it.
I'm now going to go to TK Max after all the advice on this thread.
I love nice bed linen.

WhatsTheBuzz · 21/02/2013 21:11

well, it'd be expensive for me!.. but I'm not fussy and will sleep under anything warm enough.

squeakytoy · 21/02/2013 21:12

you get what you pay for.. i dont think £40 is all that expensive for 100% cotton

Bogeyface · 21/02/2013 21:14

toby we have umpteen sets but thats from having 6 kids! 2 of the girls had a barbie fixation so we have about 8 barbie sets (thanks mum Hmm), we have a couple of Thomas the Tank Engines, a Toy Story and somewhere tucked away is a Tweenies set! Plus various brightly coloured non-character ones. I try my best but getting a set with a matching pillow case and duvet is a rare treat in this house

Its not rare to have a Thomas duvet matched with a Barbie pillowcase, especially if norovirus is doing the rounds :o

Startail · 21/02/2013 21:14

It's far too much for DD1 who hides felt pens under her pillow and drinks tea in bed.

FamiliesShareGerms · 21/02/2013 21:15

I think when they grow out of them you flog them on eBay

Bogeyface · 21/02/2013 21:16

I would probably skip the middle man then and buy them from ebay!

NumericalMum · 21/02/2013 21:16

Was also going to say they sell well on eBay!

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 21/02/2013 21:18

I have and do pay for good bedding... I am also getting rid of some of the childrens bedding as their tastes have changed now they are older.

alemci · 21/02/2013 21:28

I find the cheaper stuff goes a bit bobbly and the poppers fall off. I agree about the pens though. I bought nice duvet covers for my teenagers and then they got pens on them. Also alot of my towels and pillowcases have been ruined by ds and dd needing to use spot cream. it bleaches everything.

starfishmummy · 21/02/2013 22:23

Its less than a pound a week over a year which makes it seem more reasonable.

pumpkinsweetie · 21/02/2013 22:26

Way too expensive for me to spend in bedding, but if it's within your personal budget, why not?Smile

HokeyCokeyPigInAPokey · 21/02/2013 22:30

It's not expensive for decent bedding. Dd1 has quilt covers from Laura Ashley and they have always washed up really well and the poppers never go funny.

Spoonful · 21/02/2013 22:36

They do have some fantastic bargains in TK Maxx, high thread count cotton, nice designer stuff.

FamiliesShareGerms · 21/02/2013 22:44

Just bought DD some WC bedding on eBay as a direct consequence of this thread Blush

coraltoes · 21/02/2013 22:46

I spend a lot on bed linen, but for kids I prefer the cotton jersey style, have you seen those? Lovely and soft, wash well and good cotton. Bit more stylish than TWC

Doubletroublemummy2 · 21/02/2013 22:47

I have spent £100 on bed linen for my bed and I do have an expensive cotton set of bed linen for my girls,(twins) but the pattern is not likely to be outgrown for many years, infact could be into adult years. I also have a set, one of which is John Lewis, bought off ebay for £5 (Original price £40) and a nearly identical set from argos for new price £5. IO couldn't tell you which is which and I far prefer using these as they are poly cotton so much easier to clean and dry and don't need ironing!!! but I know what it's like when you have your heart set on something, I would keep an eye on it and see if the pice reduces in sale. or check out ebay

PoppyWearer · 21/02/2013 22:47

I go on eBay and buy GLTC or Cath Kidston bedding for the DCs for around £20-25 a set rather than £40+.

The way I see it, I should be able to sell some of it on once the DCs are done with it too.

apostropheuse · 21/02/2013 22:49

I don't think it's particularly expensive for a good quality duvet set.

I used to buy cheaper duvet covers, until I discovered the sheer and unadulterated pleasure of sleeping in 600 thread count cotton bed linen. It's an indulgence I have no guilt about - and it's not even unhealthy Grin.

House of Fraser do some gorgeous stuff and you sometimes get some great sales online.

rodandtheemu · 21/02/2013 22:57

IF you can afford it buy it! I love sleeping in nice bedding. I dont do cheap bedding as bed is my haven. sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeep x

DrRanj · 21/02/2013 23:00

I was prepared to spend £35 on dd's bedding for her first bed, until I remembered I still had some single bedding stashed away from my single days before i met dp, how sad is that?!! Grin

TheSkiingGardener · 21/02/2013 23:09

Good quality bedding is worth the money, both in comfort and longevity.

Ironing bedding, however, really isn't something I had ever contemplated.

That's why you need a press and a different person to operate it
