to shout at the pearl clutchers

"clutches pearls" IS NOT FUCKING FUNNY

sorry. really had to get that off my chest, seen it on way too many on threads today.

Please join me with your shouty rants if you like. I shall not be clutching pearls, hoiking bosoms or doing any other off camera faux amusing movements. I'm just sitting here...typing.

You can use the strikethough on FB

adamvarga.com/strike/

bit of a faff, but it does work.

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 15/02/2013 16:14

Ooh, thanks usual!

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 15/02/2013 16:15

"Bit of a faff"'s right though....

TheBigJessie · 15/02/2013 16:17

I would use strike-through on everything, if I had the function on everything.

usualsuspect · 15/02/2013 16:17

Easy enough to C & P , if you cba.

FlouncingMintyy · 15/02/2013 16:20

Yabu to shout at the pearl clutchers, because pearl clutching to you is "pick your brains" or "sat here devastated" to me.

In other words, we all have sayings or phrases that we can't stand.

However, I concede that we should all shout extremely loudly at anyone who says they are preggo or preggers or sprogging, and anyone who carries their baby in a sling who tells us they are babywearing.

FlouncingMintyy · 15/02/2013 16:22

Greenhill
No, 4 doesn't work like that.

It was the old-timers equivalent of the biscuit Biscuit. They posted it when they were unimpressed with the question and had nothing in particular to say. A bit like a shrug, really.

MsVestibule · 15/02/2013 16:31

I love all the expressions mentioned on here and use some of them, strikethroughs where appropriate are great, and are marvellous.

Of course they're sometimes overused, but so what? I piss people off on here and RL, they piss me off, and after nearly 42 years, I'm learning to not let it bother me too much.

Wallace · 15/02/2013 17:09

Phew, mintyy agrees with me.

I use strikethrough on fb

Thanks minty and wallace it must have been a coincidence when I saw it work like my example. I did think it seemed bad form to out a poster's name change when I had seen it in action. Sad

Wishiwasanheiress · 15/02/2013 18:27

Sound a bit "les Dawson" luv.....

FellatioNels0n · 15/02/2013 18:29

I like it, so long as it is used sparingly. Like all the MN memes.

FellatioNels0n · 15/02/2013 18:29

FellatioNels0n · 15/02/2013 18:31

Again, I think the strikeouts can be hilarious when used well, and I like the creepy wee brackets too, so long as they are used sparingly and cleverly.

Psammead · 15/02/2013 18:33

I like all the pantomimey things people type. So there.

Sparklingbrook · 15/02/2013 18:34

Oh no you don't Psammead!! Grin

Psammead · 15/02/2013 18:37

Oh yes I do, Dame Brook. Grin

LadyBeagleEyes · 15/02/2013 18:46

I love the Grin
I think it was Scottishmummy that named them thus, and they're now an MN fixture.
She'd bloody hate the recognition though, since we're all words on a screen or sycophants.

Fairylea · 15/02/2013 18:49

Unclentch thy buttocks :)

I don't mind pearl clutching.

I HATE "brooking" a row. Makes me feel irrationally angry !

Psammead · 15/02/2013 18:55

It always amazes me, the small innocent things that people do which give someone, somewhere THE RAGE.

I wonder if anyone sits at home thinking 'Oh for FUCKS sake Psammead. Do fuck off with your random capitalisations, you utter twat.'

Pipachi · 15/02/2013 19:26

Pearl clutching is funny. In RL and virtually.

< runs off >

< reenters to write emails using creepy wee brackets >

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 15/02/2013 19:28

Oh for FUCKS sake Psammead. Do fuck off with your random capitalisations, you utter twat.

For some reason I can't stop laughing at that you utter twat

MavisSparkle · 15/02/2013 19:40

I'm fed up of MNetters going on about how life is too short. Especially when they punctuate it thus for emphasis: Life. Is. Too. Short.

If it's so short why are they wasting it on MumsNet?

MrsKoala · 15/02/2013 19:50

I hate the elaborate people have to each other on a thread, talking to each other in a superior, we're so wise and are just going to watch you get ripped to shreds for entertainment.

Oh and someone 'popular' makes a completely bland comment which has been made better by someone else, but they have drawn it out in crayon using words of 1 syllable, and then all the arse lickers come out saying 'i luffs you' or some such high school, teen girl, pant creaming attempt to curry favour. So tedious.

Agree with earlier poster tho, I never thought pearl clutching was meant to be humorous, I thought it was just descriptive of an over reaction. Don't mind it.
