To despair at EVER finding a bra that fits?!

So, I have read every website on the subject, been measured at Bravissimo, and STILL find every single bra uncomfortable - even the ones that Bravissimo said were the right size. I just want to rip the thing off as soon as I get in from work. They seem fine for about an hour, then start to dig in.

I find that they just 'curl up' at the back, and I get horrible back fat, or dig in at the side/arm pit, but mainly on just one side! The band never seems to sit flush to my side iyswim. I have tried going up a band and down a cup, down a band and up a cup etc, have tried every style going..........

I found when I wore my saggy old too big bras they gave me no shape or support, but my god they were comfy!

I think I am about a 36/38 E/F. I have ordered and sent back about ten bras this last month as they just all HURT.

So, AIBU to just let 'em all hang out and be pain-free??!!!!

I like balcony ones because my shoulders are broad so they suit me better. However, the wires always dig in the armpits and my boobs are very far apart so I have a baggy centre and overspill on the edges. ATM my right boob is massive as I can only feed from that side due to inverted nipple on left (god I've got hideous mutant boobs!) and left is flat, but I'm thinking of getting surgery after the dc's just so I can buy nice bras!

MrsKoala · 07/02/2013 16:55

Sorry sorrel, but that's foul. It did make me laugh tho. Grin

Hardly screams rip me off, and way too high and frumpy.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 07/02/2013 17:05

Does anyone know whether I can get a balcony style in a 34H? I am not having much luck.

I love the Fantasie Helena, but it only goes up to a G in a 34 back I think. I measure 36/37 under bust - but a 36 is too big.

CelticPromise · 07/02/2013 17:17

Alibaba check out brastop.com and search by size. There are a few options there.

CelticPromise · 07/02/2013 17:21

MrsKoala it really does sound like your band is too big and cups too small. The small cup will make the wires dig in even if the band is too loose. If you've been wearing a loose band for a long time a tight one does take some getting used to. Some bras are more 'upfront' than others!

Hopefully resident expert Sorrell will have some ideas!

SorrelForbes · 07/02/2013 17:28

Confused. Ermmmm, what is foul?

MrsKoala · 07/02/2013 17:35

Per ds I was 40 under bust and 42 over. I went for many fittings and when I went down a band or 2 the discomfort was unbearable. For years I've been wearing 38bs but can't wait to get them off and they leave welts in my flesh. The bigger cups never stretch wide enough and now I have a permanent indentation where they've cut in in between boob and armpit flab/boob. I have been told by every bra fitter that I am umbra-able :(

soaccidentprone · 07/02/2013 17:36

I think it was a link I postedBlush

MrsKoala · 07/02/2013 17:37

Sorry sorrel, that was actually for soaccident. I withdraw my slur on your good taste and extend my apologies to soaccident. :)

soaccidentprone · 07/02/2013 17:38

sexy

soaccidentprone · 07/02/2013 17:41

not sexy but 40a!

no worries - it was pretty hideous

MrsKoala · 07/02/2013 17:45

God I'm a difficult cow, but I don't wear black and need a bit of padding to give me some proportion. It is pretty tho, much improved on your last suggestion Grin

ihatethecold · 07/02/2013 20:13

Can I ask advice to the resident mumsnet bra experts please?

I measure 33.5 underneath and 40 over boob if I'm leaning at 90 degrees to measure.
I'm currently wearing either a 34 dd or a 36 dShock

I'm always so uncomfortable.
The woman in triumph fitted me in the 36dd bra last week. Fitted alright in the shop but now I can't bear itHmm

SorrelForbes · 07/02/2013 20:20

You're between sizes so try a 32FF, 32F, 34E and a 34F.

You need to make sure you sort the band size out first and then work out the cup:

To test the band size, put the bra (in this example a 30 back) on back to front on the loosest hooks. If you can breathe but if feels tight and you can only fit two fingers underneath the wire at the front, then that's the correct back size for you. If it's so tight it's unbearable then go up a size.

The cup will differ much more between brands and styles than the back. Turn the bra round the correct way, lean forward then take your right hand and put it inside your left cup. Reach right round under your armpit/towards your back and scoop all the backfat/escapage forward in to the cup of the bra. Repeat at the other side.

Then put the shoulder straps up and adjust as necessary (not too tight as it's the back that should be doing most of the supporting work). If for example, you've started with a 30D, you will probably find that after scooping, you have some bulging over the cup and four-boobage going on! This means you need to go up one or more cup sizes. Keep going up through the cup sizes until all your breast tissue is firmly in place.

AnyFucker · 07/02/2013 20:21

You need a 34E

ihatethecold · 07/02/2013 20:32

I think I would die slowly wearing a 32Confused
I'm going to give these sizes a go tomorrow.
Thanks experts. This thread has been very interesting.

Hattie23 · 07/02/2013 21:09

So i went into JL wearing a 32A
Guess what size I've come home with!!

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 07/02/2013 21:11

Right I have just been and remeasured myself.

36 under-boob

46 over-boob - that is wearing my current best fitting bra.

On that basis I would be 36, J? Shock But if a 36 is too big in the band then a 34??

AnyFucker · 07/02/2013 21:15

hattie...a wild guess

28DD

soaccidentprone · 07/02/2013 21:15

28e?

AnyFucker · 07/02/2013 21:16

Ali...I reckon 34G

Hattie23 · 07/02/2013 21:20

32D or 30DD!!!!
Can't believe it. My two little fried eggs are really poached. I nearly shed a tear :)

AmazingDisgrace · 07/02/2013 21:21

The Figleaves discount code up thread worked despite my basket only being £27. It applied it because I added a pair of £8 FL knickers if I understood the order summary Grin
