AIBU to bid up to £100 for a spare favourite toy?

My 10mo ds has a discontinued cuddly toy that he needs to get to sleep. He sucks it so after 3 days it stinks to high heaven and needs decontamination washing. Wash day is a nightmare as he has to have at least one nap without it and it needs me with him for 40mins, while 2yo dd is plonked in front of Cbeebies.

In addition to trying every online shop, rl shop and the manufacturer for a spare, I have searched eBAY daily since May using 4 search terms and one has finally come up - start bid was 99p so I put on a safely high max bid of £30 . Some bugger just outbid me! It originally cost less than a tenner new.

So, would ibu to increase my bid to £40? £60? £100?! If iabu, how much is your child's favourite/needed toy worth to you?

Not that much, jeez. I may pay £20/£25 but it would pain me to go more than that.

I am soooo desperate. I think it might now be a collectors' item now as it's so rare.

Wait until the last minute to bid, that way it won't push the price up before that. Only you can know what it's worth to you! I'd say £30 would be my max but it's up to you!

When does it end? Never bid until the end. It would still be 99p now if you hadnt. Now forsure it will get a huge price.

What is it OP. You never know someone may have one stuffed in a cupboard somewhere that they're willing to part with or sell you at a sensible price

Put a plea on here with a photo and description, there's probably a mumsnetter with one on their toy box that's never played with who'll send it to you for the cost a postage, if it was one we have its yours.

Poor you I feel your pain (though never paid that much for a second version of the Most Loved Teddy). What is it -maybe someone on here has a spare one?

Just to say, my dd had a favourite toy at that age, a cat. She was devoted to it, wouldn't let it out of her sight, it went to nursery every day with her, we were terrified of losing it.

Until the Christmas when she was two and a half, when she got a new one (also a cat) and immediately, and I mean immediately, ditched the old one. She is now 6 and the newer cat is the one she sleeps with every night. The old one is at the bottom of a box somewhere, totally ignored.

So what I'm saying is, don't assume the one he has at 10mo will be the 'forever' toy. So you might not want to spend £100 on a spare!

We've been contemplating buying another of LO's bedtime rabbit. It cost about £15 new, and is still available in loads of places, so we know we can rush out and buy one if needed. It hasn't been washed EVER. He is 9.5 months old!! I think I might buy another one next time I see one in a shop, just in case.

I know some EBayer's hate this, but it does mean you keep your cards close to your chest and don't encourage other bidders.

Thats really lovely soup, how kind of you. We had a lost little ted sat in our window for afew days no one claimed it. My dh took a photo and we put it in the local shop, about an hour later ted was reunited with his little owner

I think you need to concentrate on the going to sleep issues instead. Even if you pay £100 for a replacement, or a kind Mumsnetter sends you one for free, you can't guarantee your DS won't recognise it as a poor substitute. Soft toys seem to take on a personality of their own!

It was a win-win scenario really - I got rid of a large, unloved stuffed animal and gained a warm fuzzy feeling and a small child somewhere got his friend back.

Had similar prob with DS toy bear, promptly discontinued, nearly lost him in several occasions. When DD arrived DS chose a cuddly rabbit, we bought a spare rabbit and woukd switch them so one could be in the wash whilst the other was in use. As a preschooler she found the "secret" other one, announced she'd found Raddit's (ie rabbit) twin and insisted both stay out. She is now 11, they are still in her room.
Your son is young, will be distractable, bid as high as you can afford. If you get it, we'll done, if not find something similar and buy two. An heir and a spare almost

Having been through the trauma of my then 7yo DD's favourite bear going missing last year, I'm not sure I'd blame you for spending any amount of money tbh, assuming you can afford it.
