AIBU to bid up to £100 for a spare favourite toy?

My 10mo ds has a discontinued cuddly toy that he needs to get to sleep. He sucks it so after 3 days it stinks to high heaven and needs decontamination washing. Wash day is a nightmare as he has to have at least one nap without it and it needs me with him for 40mins, while 2yo dd is plonked in front of Cbeebies.

In addition to trying every online shop, rl shop and the manufacturer for a spare, I have searched eBAY daily since May using 4 search terms and one has finally come up - start bid was 99p so I put on a safely high max bid of £30Shock . Some bugger just outbid me! It originally cost less than a tenner new.

So, would ibu to increase my bid to £40? £60? £100?! If iabu, how much is your child's favourite/needed toy worth to you?

Oh ha bloody ha! Grin

Now I'm really confused. The title says puppy, the text says horse, the photo is of the large version but the text says small/23cm. There is no phone number. Do I risk it for a Biscuit?

Mayyzs one has the description This lovely little soft toy horse from the Jellycat range makes a perfect gift It's a dog, not a horse isn't it? I'd be a little worried about what may turn up!

NotADragonOfSoup · 06/02/2013 13:02

xpost :)

NotADragonOfSoup · 06/02/2013 13:04

OK, that website sets my alarm bells ringing. The links are all repeated at the foot of the page which doesn't look at all professional

NeopreneMermaid · 06/02/2013 13:06

Soup, I don't feel right about that site either. .

Thanks Yula but don't want to risk it.

Can someone post a link to the actual toy that the OP is looking for? Does the one you want have brown inside the ears as well?

I have one sitting here which looks exactly like that and its the 23cm version but its all one colour and doesn't have brown inside the ears.

NeopreneMermaid · 06/02/2013 13:26

Oh now I have cold feet. He's going to need fewer naps soon isn't he (so more time to get the hideously stinking skank dog washed). But he's starting at the CM and a spare would be useful and there's more chance of losing it (we normally don't let it out of the house!).

I know he should sleep without it but he was given it the day he was born (sentimental fool emoticon).

I was expecting a list of YABU but you have been so lovely and helpful. So what would you do now?

NeopreneMermaid · 06/02/2013 13:27

Thanks iheart but it does have the brown inside the ears. Anyone else?

Have you had a look at the above website? Is that what you are referring to? It still seems to be in stock for £9.99.

NeopreneMermaid · 06/02/2013 13:29

Thanks Hazel but there was discussion of that site upthread. Didn't seem right.

Personally unless you can afford it (in which case why are you even asking? Just buy it.) I'd leave it. He'll get over it if he does lose it.

ihearttc · 06/02/2013 13:31

I will check when DS2 wakes up from his nap...its definitely the same dog but I think the ears are the same colour as the rest of him. If I could work out how to post a picture Id take one for you.

He was premature and it was in his incubator with him but its been on a shelf since he came out of hospital (he is 2 now)...his toy of choice is a rather large stuffed Racoon which belongs to DS1 which he got from Hamleys 6 years ago. Absolutely no chance of finding a replacement for that unless by any chance anyone has got a WWF Racoon in a cupboard anywhere lol?!

NeopreneMermaid · 06/02/2013 13:35

iheart, there's a Jellycat range called Skiffles that you might have (I have learned a ridiculous amount about the subject in the last 10 months).

annach · 06/02/2013 13:39

iheart, tell you who might have one: the WWF. We lost a very precious leopard which we couldn't find a replacement for, so rang WWF who told us it was discontinued but they had one on a shelf in the office and would post it to us for a donation, which they did. Worth a shot.

lovesmileandlaugh · 06/02/2013 13:40

I think I would start bringing in new toys to bond with, rather than reinforcing that he 'can't' sleep without it. My PFB's favourite toy meant more to me than her with hindsight! I still have it and smile, she has little recollection other than knowing I said it was her favourite toy.

However, good luck!! I am hope you manage to get it!

almostanotherday · 06/02/2013 13:40

Yes I would
Only trouble is that DH would not

ihearttc · 06/02/2013 13:40

Lol...I did the same when I was searching for toy racoons! You'd be amazed at what came up!

Nope don't think its that one...it looks exactly like your one whereas the Skiffles one looks slightly different.

NeopreneMermaid · 06/02/2013 13:42

Stuntgirl, yes and no to whether I can afford it. My overdraught has I have the money but need other stuff too, like a new freezer now the Ben & Jerrys is always slushy.

I would pay almost anything, personally, to replace DS2s 'special' bear. He is part of the family, goes everywhere with him and I dread ever losing it. Can't imagine that a new one would really replace it, but they are discontinued anyway.
