to think my friend should have changed her childs nappy?

Me and a friend went shopping today and decided to get the bus. Finished shopping and started queuing to get he return bus home, when her DS(2) poos in his nappy just as the bus gets there.

She says he'll be fine and we get on the bus. The journey can take anywhere between 30 - 50 minutes. This one took us around 40ish minutes.

We were only about a 5 minute walk from public toilets and the bus runs every 15 minutes anyway.

It couldn't have been comfortable for her son.

I think she was BU, poor lad, nobody want's to sit around in shit for 40 minutes!

Why didn't she just change it on the bus? (Wink)

Greensleeves · 25/01/2013 22:54

Um, well I would have changed him, partly because it would be nasty for him to sit in it and partly because it would be grim for everyone else marooned on a bus with a pouch of warm festering shit

but there are worse things. It's not something that would inspire outrage in me or make me start a thread about it Confused

valiumredhead · 25/01/2013 22:54

It's not the end of the world though is it?

Booyhoo · 25/01/2013 22:54

about 5 minutes (or more?).so 5 minutes there, 5 minutes to get him changed/wash hands etc and 5 minutes back again and possibly miss the bus so wait another 15 minutes and it's bloody freezing today. would you have preferred that?

StickEmWithThePointyEnd · 25/01/2013 22:56

I remember that thread.

How nice are the public toilets? My local public toilets are bad. I wouldn't change a toddler in there.

MumVsKids · 25/01/2013 22:56

I'd have changed him on the bus. Done it countless times before.

Booyhoo · 25/01/2013 22:56

and the toilets might have been grim! far rather wait to get home and change him in a warm clean bathroom.

AgentZigzag · 25/01/2013 22:56

' It's not something that would inspire outrage in me or make me start a thread about it'

I suppose if it was someone I knew quite well, I'd wonder what thought processes were going on if they were able to justify making their 2 YO sit in shit for 40 mins when there was an easy way of changing them.

Surely he'd pong a bit, and also be sat there complaining because it's uncomfortable wouldn't he?

valiumredhead · 25/01/2013 22:56

Changing nappies on buses and trains is revolting!

I once took a poo home in my changing bag, after DD filled her washable nappy while we were out. For some reason in my sleep-deprived brain fog, I failed to work out that I could tip it down the toilet.

So you never know, perhaps she just made a quick decision to get on the bus, and regretted it later... Sort of thing I do all the time. DD would have got a rash if I'd left her in a poo nappy for that amount of time, but she does have a delicate bum...

Fuck sake, people can start a thread on whatever they want.

The public toilets close to us are always clean.

why are you so angry OP?

Why are you so angry op?

nailak · 25/01/2013 23:06

i would have done the same as your friend, as i know my ds dont mind, doesnt bother him, doesnt effect his mood or make him get nappy rash etc

StickEmWithThePointyEnd · 25/01/2013 23:07

Here it is:

AIBU RE dirty nappies and public transport

ouryve · 25/01/2013 23:07

If it was simply a case of a quick change in nice loos then straight on the next bus, I'd have changed.

Our buses have only recently upped to half hourly from hourly and they're not very punctual. In a stinky situation, I'd leave it until we were home.

HollyBerryBush · 25/01/2013 23:08

Depends if it was stinky poo, how soon the poo was in a new nappy, how much sudocreme was smothered over the arse.

HopAndSkip · 25/01/2013 23:08

If DD was asleep, I would probably wait for her to wait before changing her. I don't understand the horror at changing a baby on a bus though? as long as you're sensible so that baby isn't left without a nappy under him/her at any point, surely it's just the same for the other passengers to have a child sitting in a smelly nappy as a smelly nappy being in a bag? just more comfortable for the child for it to be in a bag! Smile

5madthings · 25/01/2013 23:09

Meh its not a big deal is it.

Re changing on buses I wouldn't do it unless desperate if leaking nappy, long bus journey.

I have changed a nappy on a train, long journey is 2hrs plus and baby pops, I take them to the bit in between carriages and use a little folding changing mat, not ideal but better than leaving them in poo for hours.

tittytittyhanghang · 25/01/2013 23:10

I would have done same as your friend as well. ds doesn't care/isnt aware of having a poopy nappy so i would have waited till the comfort of home where no one can see/judge me when I have to wrestle with ds to get the shitty nappy off

AgnesBligg · 25/01/2013 23:12

Your friend really wanted to get home op.

You are angry why?

JaambaJuice · 25/01/2013 23:15

Lol Agnes

I'm not angry in the slightest. I just don't see why should pointless passive aggressive comments have to be made.

I just wouldn't leave my child in a nappy of shit for 30 minutes minimum and the smell was awful

He also started crying because he was that uncomfortable.

Oh God that thread was disgusting.

Yes I would have changed before getting on the bus if I'd have noticed, especially with buses that close together, and a changing area so close by. Then again my mum thinks its horrific that I don't change DS the second he wakes up in the morning. He's dry at night, and guaranteed to poo within half hour of waking.
