She really comes across as an unpleasant piece of work! Snide, smug, self absorbed to the point of narcissism and nowhere near as funny as she thinks she is. She is not Dorothy Parker, she is not even Catlin Moran.

So why in the name of suffering Jesus is she on every media network known to humankind? Radio 4 is usually a sanctuary from such nonsense... but she was on the other day. TWICE.

Just me then?

threesocksmorgan · 25/01/2013 16:25

sorry I have never heard of her

StephaniePowers · 25/01/2013 16:25

No, not just you. It's impossible to explain. I switch off when she comes on and flatly refused to read her book despite being offered it several times.

ComposHat · 25/01/2013 16:35

She comes across as spiteful and cruel to me. Something that came across in extracts of her book when it appeared in the Gruniad.

StephaniePowers · 25/01/2013 16:46

It's sad to see. Spite can be funny (look at Alexei Sayle). But she's just nasty with no act and no point to make, really.

Cybbo · 25/01/2013 16:48

I think you have misunderstood Ms Dent, or don't have a sense of humour. She's funny, intelligent and in a world where you can't turn a corner without bumping into that misogynistic bore Jeremy Clarkson, why not have a gal making a living in the media too?
Her twitter book is one of the funniest things I've ever read

ComposHat · 25/01/2013 16:56

I think we ay have to agree to disagree on Dent. I fucking hate Clarkson as well as it goes. But they are different kettles of equally unfunny fish.

He goes in for for uninformed bullshit & xenophobia/borderline racism and minority baiting. Which to be fair Grace Dent doesn't do.

She seems more self absorbed self satisfied.

OP posts:
ouryve · 25/01/2013 16:58

Goodness knows. She's blocked me on Twitter, which I think is hilarious.

StephaniePowers · 25/01/2013 17:00

No. She's one of those people whose schtick is 'You HAVE to fucking like me because I am a WOMAN' (Jenny Eclair is another) whilst just being vile and unfunny. See her performance on HIGNFY where she could have shone if she was funny.

Clarkson, obviously, is a twat but in a different way.

SpringHeeledJack · 25/01/2013 17:01

oh I like her

but I noted today WITH DISAPPOINTMENT that she has spaffed off a schtoopid column for the Standard. About how Working Class she is

1/10 must do better, Grace

Sugarice · 25/01/2013 17:03

She did get very arsey with a tweeter who mocked her for something and threatened to get him sacked from the agency he worked for, sometime last year I think it was.

I used to love her BB updates but I don't follow her much anymore.

EldritchCleavage · 25/01/2013 17:05

Never heard of her. Should I Google, or will it just annoy me?

ComposHat · 25/01/2013 17:05

ouryve what heinous crime did you commit for this to happen?

Yes other people I know who have interacted with her on Twitter have nothing but bad things to say, that she lashes out at people for no or very little cause. A bit like they playground bully stomping around drunk on her own power and the attention she gets. Pretty pathetic in a woman in her late 30s/early 40s.

OP posts:
Cybbo · 25/01/2013 18:10

Compos you really have a problem with her don't you?

ComposHat · 25/01/2013 18:12

Yeah, it is probably irrational, but she just really gets my goat.

Especially on Radio 4, that is my safe place!

OP posts:
dexter73 · 25/01/2013 18:27

I've never heard of her either Eldritch. Cba to google though!

BabeRuthless · 25/01/2013 18:46

I really like her. One of the reasons I switched to the Independent is because she writes for them. I don't think she's snide or spiteful. She likes cats and the Mitfords which is good enough for me.

Bella88 · 25/01/2013 18:52

I really like her Blush

SpringHeeledJack · 25/01/2013 19:05

I unfollowed all the other columnists, one at a time, because of nasty twitter spats

but GD still makes the cut

she makes me loool

as for interactions, I don't think she ever replies to Little Peeps, does she?

still think she's funny, tho

even if she did stiff the Guardian

TheWave · 25/01/2013 19:09

I think her column in the independent is rubbish. Agree that find her hard to like.

BabeRuthless · 25/01/2013 19:26

I've talked to her on twitter a few times & she's always responded. Check her timeline & you see she nearly always answers.

Is she supposed to be funny - I didn't realise

cocolepew · 25/01/2013 19:34

Her Big Brother blog for the Radio Times was the funniest thing ever.

I was reading a really good article by her in the Belfast Telegraph yesterday.

SpringHeeledJack · 25/01/2013 19:36

maybe I'm thinking of Caitlin Moran, then
