To wonder why so many women are in denial about misogyny?

What do they get out of insisting that men are subject to exactly the same level of discrimination and abuse as women? That Mary Beard, for example, would have been treated in the same way if she had been a man?

I just don't get it.

And now I'm going to bed. Another night of fascinating feminist conversation.

SigmundFraude · 24/01/2013 23:15

Oh the bloody UGG boots, don't be obtuse. Some bloke warns women not to wear UGG boots or wellies, cos they can slip off the pedals and you can crash. Feminist response? Was it:

A. Oh right, I didn't know they caused accidents. Thanks for trying to prevent me from dying.

or..

B. WTAF?? Men wear boots too you know, sexist pig.

McNewPants2013 · 24/01/2013 23:16

would you trust a school aged child to vote Sigmund

seeker · 24/01/2013 23:17

Link to the Ugg boot thing?

OP posts:
SigmundFraude · 24/01/2013 23:18

Well, i'll have to say no there. However they'd probably put as much thought into who they're going to vote for as the average adult voter (those that can be arsed to vote, of course).

Pan · 24/01/2013 23:21

Whoops. Am really sorry Sigmund - I thought you were a man. Really sorry.
But I wasn't deliberately minimising what you were saying. I'd hope I wasn't being that discourteous.

Soild - no, she really IS clever, and my intro re her cleverness is never a put down. It's an authentic respect. But yes, when I was 13yo I was King, and knew just about everything.Grin

SolidSnake · 24/01/2013 23:23

Pan I was the same at 13, I cringe looking back Grin

SigmundFraude · 24/01/2013 23:23

It's OK Pan, you're not the first! I'd change my name but I kind of like this one Smile.

Pan · 24/01/2013 23:25

no don't cringe! Celebrate your period of knowing everything with the responsibility of absolutely nothing. It was a great time.Smile

seeker · 24/01/2013 23:26

Oh, for crying out loud! Anyone with half a brain can see that article is sexist- obviously only women wear wellies! And obviously only women need any qdvice about driving cars!

OP posts:
Pan · 24/01/2013 23:26

I like your name too. Don't change. I'll just remember it for next time.

Pan · 24/01/2013 23:27

Ugg boots? Just how far have we traveled from the OP?

MurderOfGoths · 24/01/2013 23:31

"You say you're a non-feminist, but you certainly show enough interest and agreement in feminism them to think that you are very supportive"

So are the only options feminist or anti-feminist then?

Can't you not label yourself a feminist and yet agree with some (or even a lot) of feminist principles?

SigmundFraude · 24/01/2013 23:32

Oh come ON!! Ranting about sexist UGG warnings is scraping the bottom of the proverbial. Show me a man who wears UGGS and i'll show you 00000000000000000000000.1 of the male uk population.

Taking the mick.

SigmundFraude · 24/01/2013 23:38

MurderofGoths - the vast majority of the population comes under the heading of non-feminist. They don't give a shiny shite about the stuff feminists live and breath. So I would use the term non- feminist I guess.

seeker · 24/01/2013 23:41

The main thrust of the article was driving in Wellington boots, not Uggs. Which, the last time I looked, were pretty unisex!

I said they don't give a shiny shite, not that the topics were shite.

Read my words.

Pan · 24/01/2013 23:46

oh it's quite individual, this 'feminist/non feminist' thing. Both my sisters, as an eg would run away from the 'label', yet are glowing examples of female achievement against the odds, from the start.
I'm an 'equalist' fwiw which is quite different to feminism, but there's another thread.
bed time.

SigmundFraude · 24/01/2013 23:47

Righto. Well if you think that omitting to mention that men wear wellies (thought you didn't do whataboutthemenz btw), is a worthwhile topic to get het up about, there's not much more to say really.

seeker · 24/01/2013 23:49

You were the one who got het up!

I got het up about people getting het up about someone trying to potentially save a woman's life.

Anyway, night seeker.
