your dh is being a spineless arse

feed your baby wherever you like! and you dh will probably get used to it, and he may even apologise

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 11/01/2013 21:59

YANBU. But why would anyone see your breast? I doubt anyone will even notice and those that do will think "thank goodness she's keeping that baby quiet" Grin

Sorry, that was unhelpful - there have been a lot of strange threads around the past few days. I BF all the time out and about and in restaurants etc. my poor PIL's just didn't know where to look, don't think they had ever seen the likes. Your husband is being a tad old fashioned.

last week i bf at my own wedding in the middle of a crowded pub. someone snottily said 'i've never seen a bride bf in her wedding dress before' oh do fuck off! i had a wrap draped over me, you could only see ds's feet out the end ffs. i find you actually see very little actual boob when you bf. i do it wherever i need to and people can eat the peanuts out of my shit! (as an ex used to say Grin )

LurcioLovesFrankie · 11/01/2013 22:02

Flobbadobs - I have watched in awe as this trick is performed, but never managed it myself. Fortunately DS is now nearly 5 (years that is, not months) so I no longer have to worry. At least not about that. Keeping him quiet in restaurants remains problematic Grin.

BarredfromhavingStella · 11/01/2013 22:03

Yanbu as long as it is your child you are bf Grin

On a day out when ds was 5 weeks old, I fed him on the tube, in the park, in the National Gallery, in Pizza Hut, and on the train. No one batted an eyelid!

Blatherskite · 11/01/2013 22:05

I once plonked myself down in the middle of the shopping centre to feed DD so that she would stop screaming and we could get her (totally pointless as they looked like her for all of a week) passport photos finished.

Matildaduck · 11/01/2013 22:05

God i fed in all manner of places. Silk shawl hids a lot!

More women should feed in public, it's natural.

slightlysoupstainedbabygrows · 11/01/2013 22:06

What is he proposing you do instead? Not go out to eat? Go out but not feed baby and sit there forking down your meal grimly while your tiny baby wails? Leave him troughing while you traipse off to exile in the loos?

YADNBU.

Blatherskite · 11/01/2013 22:06

I once gave a waiter in Pizza Express more of an eye-full than he had bargained for when he came in to coo over the "sleeping" baby once too Grin

DitzyDonkeySillyMonkey · 11/01/2013 22:08

Yanbu your dc needs to eat also, it's natural what does he expect you to do with a hungry child! I bf in many restaurants, cafes etc. mostly nobody ever noticed and never ever had any odd looks or anything said to me.

saycheeeeeese · 11/01/2013 22:08

Show him this thread, hes being a stupid, ignorant arse!!

SirBoobAlot · 11/01/2013 22:09

You are legal allowed to feed wherever you want to. As you should. Because that is what breasts are actually for.

Your 'D'H sounds like an unsupportive prick.

Lilithmoon · 11/01/2013 22:09

LTB!

orangetickle · 11/01/2013 22:10

Unless you're sitting there feeding without your top on, I highly doubt anyone is seeing your breast.

He's being ridiculous.

Inertia · 11/01/2013 22:10

Yanbu. Your baby is eating a meal, a restaurant seems ideally suited to this activity.

Nobody needs to look at your breasts.

YANBU, I've fed in loads of places. You can discretely BF, it's not as if you are flashing!! Enjoy your meal and let your baby enjoy theirs...you DH can eat with his eyes closed if he likes!! Smile

spongebobsquareeyes · 11/01/2013 22:13

YANBU. Just asked DP how he felt when I did it, it didnt bother him at all.

GreenShadow · 11/01/2013 22:13

Just make sure your breast is not on display and you don't draw attention to yourself and no one will even know ! Go for it.

MsVestibule · 11/01/2013 22:14

I would never breastfed in public (could never seem to manage the logistics) but on a flight to Australia when DS was 3 months, I didn't have much choice! I got nothing but "aah, sweet" type smiles from people. I don't recall anybody holding their crossed fingers towards me. Or asking the cabin crew for garlic.

Your DH is being a bit of an idiot. people are paying to eat and not to see my breast is utterly nonsensical. He might feel uncomfortable about you feeding in public, but there is no correlation between a stranger paying for their dinner and happening to notice that you're feeding your baby Confused.
