Catfood forks in the dishwasher

DancingDolly · 05/01/2013 17:46

Aibu in thinking it's wrong? Dp chucks them in and it makes me recoil a bit to see them sitting there with little bits of catfood on next to the other cutlery.

If I'm right, how should they be washed? How do you wash your petfood implements? Confused

OP posts:

Lick them clean.

littlewhitebag · 05/01/2013 17:47

I assume the cat has not eaten off them, you just used them to spoon the food out? Seems fine to me! The dishwasher will get them cleaner than washing them will.

AreYouADurtBirdOrALadyBird · 05/01/2013 17:47

Its cat food,not poison.

vintageviolets · 05/01/2013 17:48

Ours go in the dishwasher & their bowls (once rinsed)
Doesn't bother me one bit.

InNeedOfBrandy · 05/01/2013 17:48

Urgh I'm with you on this OP utterly minging

If I had pets I'd have certain pet forks for their food only and they would not go in the dishwasher.

Sanjifair · 05/01/2013 17:48

No, it's right. How on earth do you think they should be washed then?

YABU

How weird. Why would you not put them in the dishwasher?!

It's no worse than other meat sitting there surely?

McNewPants2013 · 05/01/2013 17:49

I see no problem with putting cat food fork in the dishwasher.

MummyDoIt · 05/01/2013 17:49

YABU. Never had a catfood fork, just used a normal one. It's only cat food!

LegoAcupuncture · 05/01/2013 17:49

How odd. What doyou think will happen?

Cat food has loads of quality tests done on it, more than human food.

ditavonteesed · 05/01/2013 17:49

you wouldnt want to see some of the things I put in my dishwasher, the only reason the chickens poo covered roosting bars dont go in is because they wont fit.

Wabbitty · 05/01/2013 17:49

I handwash my bunnies things separately to any other washing-up. As I am not a vegan and they are I think it would be far more disgusting for them if I was to wash everything together.

vole3 · 05/01/2013 17:50

Cat food is taste tested by humans too.
Had dreamt about making a cat food pasty for XH as payback, but never got round to it........

ClaimedByMe · 05/01/2013 17:50

I stick the dog food fork in the dishwasher! The only reason I dont wash the cat fork in the dishwasher is we use sachets for the cat!

ChaosTrulyReigns · 05/01/2013 17:51

Does your dishwasher not clean things then?
Confused

Of it's good enough for baby's bottles...

TheCatIsEatingIt · 05/01/2013 17:51

I'd put them in the dishwasher if I had one. (and if the cats had wet food, which they only get on special occasions.)

Why wouldn't you? If I had a dishwasher I would put the cats dishes and forks in without a second thought.

KenLeeeeeee · 05/01/2013 17:52

It's cat food, how is it any more repulsive than human food?

Do you not rinse most food bits off the dishes & cutlery before putting in the dishwasher anyway though? I do.. Am I weird?

HoHoHoNoYouDont · 05/01/2013 17:52

I'm kind of like you OP. Even though moggy hasn't eaten off them I still wash them separately. It doesn't seem right putting them in with the rest of the dishes though I don't know why!

NumericalMum · 05/01/2013 17:53

My cats eat off saucers which then go in the dishwasher. Hand washing things is far less hygienic. YABU! In fact YABVU!

MummyDoIt · 05/01/2013 17:54

My dad once licked a spoon, thinking it had been used for meat pie filling, when really it had been used for dog food. He survived (and said it was quite tasty, actually).

EMS23 · 05/01/2013 17:54

Ooh, you'd hate me! Our dog gets leftovers on one of our plates, put on the floor for him and then dishwashered!

usualsuspect · 05/01/2013 17:55

My cat eats off saucers too, he wont eat out of plastic dishes. Not that he's fussy or anything Hmm
