To be cheesed off that my meal has been chosen for me?

I may be overreacting...

We're off for a family meal (in laws) to a buffet style Chinese restaurant. Although its someone else's birthday we are paying for ourselves.

The person who booked the table (not birthday person) has just text to say the first two courses have been ordered for us 'for ease'. It's a fucking buffet place, that's the ease surely?

I'm stroppy now because I'm fussy and I bet I don't like anything that has been chosen. Why why why???

AIBU?

Ring the restaurant & change the order. if you're paying - simples!

BluelightsAndSirens · 05/01/2013 15:59

Text back and ask what has been chosen, you might be lucky and like it and then not be cross anymore!

NickNacks · 05/01/2013 15:59

I might! ;)

Do you know what's been ordered? It's odd behaviour, I'm wondering if they mean they have ordered something for the whole group to share etc. I don't know why someone would do that otherwise.

It would bother me mainly because I am vegetarian and like to be sure what I'm eating is suitable.

BluelightsAndSirens · 05/01/2013 16:00

Prawn crackers are your friend...

squeakytoy · 05/01/2013 16:01

If it is one of those all you can eat chinese places then it will be a huge selection of starters, and the duck that has been pre-ordered. I am sure there will be something that you like, and you would be able to add on to the order once you are there anyway.

LoopsInHoops · 05/01/2013 16:02

Nah, I'd be a bit pissed off too. Just find out what it is, change if crap. :)

misscomanche · 05/01/2013 16:02

YANBU. Why would someone do that? How difficult can it be to order a meal in a restaurant?

MrsPresley · 05/01/2013 16:04

I've never know a buffet place to do separate starters, but I wouldnt like it chosen for me, so YANBU

But YABU for now making me want to go to my not so local but fantastic chinese buffet place Grin

NickNacks · 05/01/2013 16:06

Exactly! WHY would someone do that?

Good to know I can add to the order when we get there.

Yanbu

I would be pissed off. Especially if I was paying for myself.

Why on earth have they felt the need to order for you? If the restaurant needed to know could they not have text you the options?

2rebecca · 05/01/2013 16:11

If I'm paying for a meal I'd want to choose it so I'd be letting the organiser know I'm not happy with this and it isn't "easier" if you don't like what is chosen and still have to pay for it. If it's a buffet they shouldn't be preordering stuff, sounds strange. Whether or not you'll "starve" is irrelevent. The pre-ordering was unnecessary and controlling.

LineRunner · 05/01/2013 16:12

IME you'll still get plenty of choice. They've likely just whittled it down from 'all known Chinese food' to 'still a fairly vast selection'.

thebody · 05/01/2013 16:13

No I would be pissed off. It's very arrogant to order for someone else.

Yanbu.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 05/01/2013 16:30

This would piss me off.

McNewPants2013 · 05/01/2013 16:32

I wouldn't be to happy.

Have they text back yet

LovesBeingAtHomeForChristmas · 05/01/2013 16:33

I want Chinese now Sad

catgirl1976geesealaying · 05/01/2013 16:34

They'll be loads of choice

I bet it will be a generic starter "platter" - spare ribs, prawn toasts spring rolls, chicken satay etc

But I love food and hate it when people order for me so I can see your annoyance

NickNacks · 05/01/2013 16:35

Reply just says

'don't worry I've got it covered :)'

Very arrogant, isn't it?

YANBU

I'd not be at all happy about this and would probably order my own when I arrived and refuse to pay out of childish spite Grin

However anyone who knows me wouldn't dare order for me

catgirl1976geesealaying · 05/01/2013 16:37

Ring the restaurant and add whhat you want to it

You've made me hungry :)

Jins · 05/01/2013 16:39

Text back and say you are worried and you won't be paying unless you get to choose your own food

Selks · 05/01/2013 16:42

Have they not even told you what it is that they have ordered?

I would find this very odd and would be thoroughly cheesed off myself!
