To think a baileys dessert from iceland isn't suitable for xmas day and a bit cheeky actually

I'm cooking dinner tomorrow. One of us is assigned to buy veg, the other meat and the other pudding. So iv'e got a mahoosive chicken,a joint of ham and stuffing, t'other guest has bought carrots potatoes parsnips sprouts broccoli and sauces. So far so good. I phoned the pudding offender last night to find out what scrummy dessert we will be having on xmas day, and this is what she has bought.

It's dome a shaped cake/ice cream thing looks like a panna cotta on the outside and a gateau thing on the inside for 3 quid.
AIBU to think when someone has gone to the trouble of buying naice food and will spend ages preparing and cooking it, the least you could do is buy a naice pudding to go with it.
AIBU to feel a little resentful that they haven't even spent a quarter of what I have and the only prep they have to do is take it out the freezer a couple of hours before?

Am I being the ungrateful one or is she? Merry Christmas Xmas Smile

YANBU. I would be heartbroken if I asked someone to bring desert and they turned up with any kind of bought frozen thing - especially from Iceland and especially on Christmas Day!! If that's the only thing the person had to provide then surely they could make something themselves - and that certainly doesn't have to be expensive. That desert sounds like the kind of thing small children would enjoy though.

IneedAsockamnesty · 24/12/2012 12:40

I often buy certain things from Iceland, I can afford to shop anywhere I want

Sparklingbrook · 24/12/2012 12:42

I am a bit bemused by all this. Where does Farm Foods come in the hierarchy?

OhlimpPricks · 24/12/2012 12:43

I want Smarties penguin ice cream! Ps, if you're sharing the kids ice cream, bling it up by pouring over a glut of Baileys or Advocaat!

LouisWalshsChristmasCloset · 24/12/2012 12:46

It goes cool trader, farm foods, Iceland. Xmas Grin

We're having arctic roll for Christmas pudding. Beat that.

OP- I think it's fine to bring a dessert like that, there's nothing wrong with Iceland desserts. Some people are no good at cooking a posh Christmas dessert from scratch. I'd be fine with it.

However, if I was bringing dessert I would have brought another dessert so that people could have a choice, say something hot or something fruity as a contrast. I certainly wouldn't be ungrateful or displeased though so YABU on that one.

RandallPinkFloyd · 24/12/2012 12:48

Why the balls would anyone think baileys pudding was for kids!

Panzee · 24/12/2012 12:48

Oh god, chicken and Bailey's anything. Sounds like my idea of hell. Where's the turkey, woman? :o :o

Sparklingbrook · 24/12/2012 12:49

Do you think the pudding offender has got Blue Nun or Black Tower to bring too or maybe a bottle of sparkling Concord?

JoanByers · 24/12/2012 12:49

honestly I don't think yours is much classier. No turkey? Chicken is not very special is it....

FestiveDigestive · 24/12/2012 12:51

Randall - because it sounds like the kind of pudding that my DS would be wildly excited about! He thinks that Vienetta is really exotic and always begs for them in the supermarket.

Were having Artic roll tonight after our Xmas eve buffet. A choice of chocolate log or pavalova tomorrow ( shop brought) with squirty cream. On boxing day when we have guests a massive M&S macaroon tree thing ( involves some building)
, an M&S big mousse thing and a M&S cheese board.
I think the Baileys cheese cake sounds nice but if it was me I would have provided 2 desserts so people get a choice even if it's just a box of mince pies and pot of cream.

RandallPinkFloyd · 24/12/2012 12:55

Well vienetta yes, it's ice cream.

You do know that baileys is booze?

SchroSawMummyRidingSantaClaus · 24/12/2012 12:56

The Baileys desserts are lovely. I bought Baileys chocolates to get the taste as am pg and can't drink it and it's a Xmas tradition. :(

Baileys is Christmassy, enjoy it.

Fluffy1234 · 24/12/2012 12:56

Perhaps you could add a can of Tip Top cream to make it a bit posher.

RandallPinkFloyd · 24/12/2012 12:59

Vienetta and tip top!

Ah, I'm at my nanna's Christmas table just thinking about it.

TheHoneyDragonsDrunkInTheIvy · 24/12/2012 13:00

I love that this thread will now cause a last minute stampede for Smarties Penguin ice cream Grin - mine was from Waitrose, therefore making it posh enough for Xmas dinner Wink

I have a Heston Figgy Pudding too, and if its not better than my own I will be Sad. But that will probably be in the evening with coffee.

Sparklingbrook · 24/12/2012 13:00

Bit of dream topping maybe? Or a Birds Trifle?

cinnamonnut · 24/12/2012 13:01

Going against the flow here - YANBU

bamboostalks · 24/12/2012 13:01

Sounds horrible to me. You'll know for next time to be highly specific. Maybe she's got some more goodies up her sleeve. Cheapskate too.

Fluffy1234 · 24/12/2012 13:05

Or butterscotch angle delight?

Bella88 · 24/12/2012 13:05

You probably are being unreasonable but I can see your point. Hope she comes loaded with cheese, chocs and other bits as well.
