To think a baileys dessert from iceland isn't suitable for xmas day and a bit cheeky actually

I'm cooking dinner tomorrow. One of us is assigned to buy veg, the other meat and the other pudding. So iv'e got a mahoosive chicken,a joint of ham and stuffing, t'other guest has bought carrots potatoes parsnips sprouts broccoli and sauces. So far so good. I phoned the pudding offender last night to find out what scrummy dessert we will be having on xmas day, and this is what she has bought.

It's dome a shaped cake/ice cream thing looks like a panna cotta on the outside and a gateau thing on the inside for 3 quid.
AIBU to think when someone has gone to the trouble of buying naice food and will spend ages preparing and cooking it, the least you could do is buy a naice pudding to go with it.
AIBU to feel a little resentful that they haven't even spent a quarter of what I have and the only prep they have to do is take it out the freezer a couple of hours before?

Am I being the ungrateful one or is she? Merry Christmas Xmas Smile

Well I still want to try one, just to see. there is one that has profiteroles on the top. Yum. Smile

Snowkey · 24/12/2012 12:11

I'd have expected someone to bring a home made pudding or buy something from M&S....I'm a self proclaimed food snob, would not be happy with an Iceland cheesecake - nothing tricky, complicated or expensive about homemade apple crumble, a bit more effort could have been made.

MrsCampbellBlack · 24/12/2012 12:12

Honestly I wouldn't be impressed either. If it were me I'd have made at least one pudding but taken another one as well along with cream etc.

Its christmas - its nice to make a bit of an effort. And I wouldn't eat anything with Baileys in as think its revolting.

LouisWalshsChristmasCloset · 24/12/2012 12:13

I mentioned it was from iceland because a lot of people know about their baileys desserts so would be able to say they have eaten them, not because i'm being a snobby prick.
Like I said no matter where it's from it sound a bit lackluster to me. I expected something hot you can pour cream, custard or some kind of sauce on.

You can't say anything on this site without people putting 2 and 2 together and coming up with 10!

Don't come round ours then. We've got a Smarties Ice Cream Penguin Xmas Grin

Sparklingbrook · 24/12/2012 12:15

Envy Honey. I need one of those too now.

IneedAsockamnesty · 24/12/2012 12:16

Amused that if its from m&s its ok but not Iceland

Sparklingbrook · 24/12/2012 12:17

I neeeeeed one

Sparklingbrook · 24/12/2012 12:18

How about a Vienetta? I love them.

ArthurandGeorge · 24/12/2012 12:18

I think it sounds nice but it's good to have a choice of two puddings, or one sweet thing and some cheeses.

I bet the other guests wolf it down!

Iamsparklyknickers · 24/12/2012 12:19

Actually louis I made it 14 Xmas Wink

Seriously, I don't think it's unacceptable to ask her to sort out something as a hot option, provided you ask now. Be aware you may end up with something from Spar!

AmberSocks · 24/12/2012 12:19

i hate this reverse snobbery.

iceland is shit. fact.

no one who can afford to shop somewhere better would go to iceland.

however yabu

maybe shes skint.

OhlimpPricks · 24/12/2012 12:20

You sound like my mum. Instead of being grateful she has many people around her, all she can do is try and find holes to pick in everyone.
It's a pudding, not a competition entry.
Hope someone has bought you a grip. You need one

NettoHoHoHoSuperstar · 24/12/2012 12:21

I want one of those, but we're having homemade cheesecake, Swap OP?

WorraLorraTurkey · 24/12/2012 12:22

YABU and a bit ungrateful.

But I'm interested to know why you haven't got the hump with the other one who just bought some veg and sauce?

Or is it because the veg didn't come from Iceland? Confused

Regarding spending, if you're buying the meat then the other two were always going to spend a lot less than you...unless you want to drown in a sea of veg and ice cream.

MsElleTow · 24/12/2012 12:25

Sparkling I used to buy snowmen and Christmas tree ice creams from Iceland when my DC were small and didn't eat Chrsitmas pudding!

I can't be arsed with this Iceland is shit malarkey! A frozen pea is a frozen pea, a ready made Pavlova is a ready made pavlova! Some of what Iceland sell is shot, in the same way as Tesco, Waitrose, and M&S sell some shit! At least they don't charge a fecking fortune for it!

RandallPinkFloyd · 24/12/2012 12:25

I don't think it would be ruined by a big glug of double cream!

And seriously, what's more festive than baileys?

I don't know, I don't really buy into this competitive Christmas malarkey.

Well I'd bring gold plated bite sized diamond encrusted pieces of joy, plus the most expensive cake in the world and 17 types of cheese.

It's just dinner. Nice meat, nice veg, nice cake. Why does it need to be more complicated than that.

piprabbit · 24/12/2012 12:26

Worra perhaps the veg has been bought in Iceland...the OP just doesn't realise it yet. The veg buyer will arrive with packs of frozen roasties, parsnips and the sprouts/chesnuts combo pack.

Jingleallthejay · 24/12/2012 12:26

it is lovely the dome thingy we are having pafitiroles (sp) from sainsbury quid a box and a cheese cake was about 2 , you are being ungrateful what were you expecting ,

Jingleallthejay · 24/12/2012 12:28

who just bought some veg and sauce?

it is probs a naice veg box lovingly hugged as they grew Grin

Jingleallthejay · 24/12/2012 12:29

e've got a Smarties Ice Cream Penguin

fab Xmas Grin

Sparklingbrook · 24/12/2012 12:31

I am not getting this Iceland is shit either. I agree with MsElle frozen food is the same whether you buy it there or anywhere else. Confused I do go to Iceland by choice to buy some frozen food. Is that a MN no-no? Confused

PurpleTinsel · 24/12/2012 12:31

YABU.

If you wanted "something hot you can pour cream, custard or some kind of sauce on", then you should have told your friend in advance that you wanted that sort of dessert.

And maybe your friend does consider the dessert she's bought to be Christmassy. My parents always serve up ice-cream puddings after the main Christmas meal. I still feel that there's something not right about even the notion of having a hot pudding after the Christmas meal.

Sparklingbrook · 24/12/2012 12:31

Where are the Smarties Penguins?

LouisWalshsChristmasCloset · 24/12/2012 12:37

Because her veg were up to an an acceptable standard.
She had grown them in her allotment and any other bits she had procured from the farmers market, only the best mind.
Any less will just not suffice. A dessert from iceland ew, I feel like heaving even saying it, have to have a shower when I get home if I merely walk past the place. I'm vair vair posh and don't you know.
