I'm cooking dinner tomorrow. One of us is assigned to buy veg, the other meat and the other pudding. So iv'e got a mahoosive chicken,a joint of ham and stuffing, t'other guest has bought carrots potatoes parsnips sprouts broccoli and sauces. So far so good. I phoned the pudding offender last night to find out what scrummy dessert we will be having on xmas day, and this is what she has bought.

It's dome a shaped cake/ice cream thing looks like a panna cotta on the outside and a gateau thing on the inside for 3 quid.
AIBU to think when someone has gone to the trouble of buying naice food and will spend ages preparing and cooking it, the least you could do is buy a naice pudding to go with it.
AIBU to feel a little resentful that they haven't even spent a quarter of what I have and the only prep they have to do is take it out the freezer a couple of hours before?

Am I being the ungrateful one or is she? Merry Christmas Xmas Smile

I'm afraid I have to admit to being a food snob Xmas Blush I have no problem wearing cheap clothes, and buying own brand coke etc. But when it comes to actual food, I would never buy it from Iceland, sorry. My main issue is how they can possibly produce, say, a lasagne that costs less than the igredients I would need to make it Hmm Can only think they must use substandard ingredients , what are you actually getting?

Although I can't be too smug, as my home-made caramel orange pavlova, prepared lovingly over 2 days, died a bit of a death when DH threw out the caramel sauce tidying up between courses- gutted!

Sparklingbrook · 26/12/2012 16:53

There was a cheeseboard on the Royle Family last night just like that. There was also Cheese Strings. Wink

BaublesAndCuntingCarolSingers · 26/12/2012 16:59

Whoa whoa whoa back the fuck up. What is wrong with Wensleydale and cranberries?

I do have a truckle of Black Bomber and a wedge of Tickler if that ups my frontage credentials at all?

Alittlestranger · 26/12/2012 17:08

Baubles if you have to ask then clearly there is nothing wrong with it in your house.

I would just be disappointed if someone promised me cheese and then produced wensleydale with cranberries or Tickler.

Sparklingbrook · 26/12/2012 17:09

Cheeseboard snobbery. Shock Who knew? Grin

BaublesAndCuntingCarolSingers · 26/12/2012 17:16

Look, you can buy wensleydale with cranberries AND Tickler in Waitrose so that means it's fine, m' Kay?

LouisWalshsChristmasCloset · 26/12/2012 17:17

Sparklingbrook · 26/12/2012 17:18

What's Tickler? Confused

Alittlestranger · 26/12/2012 17:24

Tickler = cooking/toasting cheddar cheese.

i made this, leaving out the nuts as dd has allergy. they were impressed!

BaublesAndCuntingCarolSingers · 26/12/2012 17:25

Tickler is just like a sharp cheddar. The perfect cheese board partner for Dairylea and Primula.

Sparklingbrook · 26/12/2012 17:27

Ooh there's a website Buppers

I have some Brie to go in Brie and Black Grape sandwiches.

Snowkey · 26/12/2012 17:30

You can buy Dairy Lea in waitrose too. Manchego is very nice esp with some membrillo. Tickler is more of an everyday cheddar cheese, it would never make it onto to the uber pouncetastic Christmas cheese board in our house. Grin

Sparklingbrook · 26/12/2012 17:37

But i had never heard of Tickler. What does that say about me?

TheHoneyDragonsDrunkInTheIvy · 26/12/2012 18:08

I worked for many years in a poncy gourmet deli. We had a special term for people who were a bit intense about cheese.

Cheese Cunts

Tells you everything you need to know.

Alittlestranger · 26/12/2012 18:15

I would happily self-define as a cheese cunt.
