To think a baileys dessert from iceland isn't suitable for xmas day and a bit cheeky actually

I'm cooking dinner tomorrow. One of us is assigned to buy veg, the other meat and the other pudding. So iv'e got a mahoosive chicken,a joint of ham and stuffing, t'other guest has bought carrots potatoes parsnips sprouts broccoli and sauces. So far so good. I phoned the pudding offender last night to find out what scrummy dessert we will be having on xmas day, and this is what she has bought.

It's dome a shaped cake/ice cream thing looks like a panna cotta on the outside and a gateau thing on the inside for 3 quid.
AIBU to think when someone has gone to the trouble of buying naice food and will spend ages preparing and cooking it, the least you could do is buy a naice pudding to go with it.
AIBU to feel a little resentful that they haven't even spent a quarter of what I have and the only prep they have to do is take it out the freezer a couple of hours before?

Am I being the ungrateful one or is she? Merry Christmas Xmas Smile

YABU - Send it to me if you don't want it please!!

LouisWalshsChristmasCloset · 24/12/2012 11:38

Can I clarify, she hasn't bought it because she thinks we will like she has bought it because she wants it

So?

RobotLover68 · 24/12/2012 11:39

well she'd be a bit daft to buy something she doesn't like!

JenaiMathis · 24/12/2012 11:40

It's half-arsed!

LouisWalshsChristmasCloset · 24/12/2012 11:40

Oh jesus. Wheres the brick wall Grin

Well it is yummy, but if I'd been her I'd have brought something else as well. Like you say some people might not like Baileys. So I'd have played it safe and bought a nice Xmas Pudding as well.

IneedAsockamnesty · 24/12/2012 11:41

Yabu some things are not about ow much you spend

Moominsarescary · 24/12/2012 11:41

It sounds lovely, although I think I'd probably bring something else as well so you get a choice.

However I don't like ham or chicken so wouldn't be excited about your choice of meat. We have 11 for dinner so a little bit of compromise has to happen.

IneedAsockamnesty · 24/12/2012 11:42

You obviously not ow

HairyGrotter · 24/12/2012 11:42

I think YABVVVU, the more you post, the more I think you come across badly.

Plus...chicken? I'd be gutted if I were your mate

Iamsparklyknickers · 24/12/2012 11:43

Ah come on Louis, we all buy things based on what we like and want people to enjoy with us.

Please stop making me type out gushy messages about accepting out loved ones at Christmas - it really is nauseating for me! Xmas Grin although it is making me laugh that your nn is reflecting a Christmas dinner 'x-factor'

piprabbit · 24/12/2012 11:45

I think in the same situation, I'd probably try and come up with some sort of home cooked pudding...but the Baileys bomb does sounds delicious so I wouldn't feel hard done by if someone forced me to a eat a vast portion.

VivaLeBeaver · 24/12/2012 11:46

Nothing wrong with chicken for Xmas dinner! We always have it as I think its nicer than turkey.

happyinherts · 24/12/2012 11:50

Remind me never to visit anybody with an edible contribution to a meal....

Damned if you, damned if you don't...

YABU. Who are you to say who's made the most effort?

samandi · 24/12/2012 11:56

I take it there are more than three of you, otherwise that sounds like too much meat. If so, I?d probably expect more than one dessert. Definitely Christmas pudding. I would be surprised at chicken instead of turkey. Does seem to be a bit of a communication issue.

FestiveElement · 24/12/2012 11:59

Really Festive? Would they all have to be home made?

No, not homemade! But maybe M&S Xmas Wink

Sparklingbrook · 24/12/2012 12:02

Phew Festive. Grin

HDee · 24/12/2012 12:06

Mumsnet snobbery at it's best. If it's from Iceland then it must be shit. Ridiculous.

Viviennemary · 24/12/2012 12:08

I've not tried this. But can't see why it's cheeky. Were you expecting a home made pudding. I'm sure people would rather have a bought one than something I'd made. The only thing I'd think is she could have brough two so you could have a choice if you didn't like Baileys.

HDee · 24/12/2012 12:08

And be done with the fucking 'naice' shit. Buy it yourself next time.

mercibucket · 24/12/2012 12:09

Yup, I'd also think that was a last minute half arsed attempt at a pudding that would be fine for a normal meal but for xmas a bit more effort please. I'd bring cheese board, xmas pud, yule log plus baileys thing or m + s type pavlova etc.
