I've got plans you see and wanted to schedule them around the apocalypse. You'd think the Mayans would have narrowed it down to a time slot wouldn't you? Like delivery drivers?

Wait a minute - didn't we drop a few days out of the calendar in the 1700's when we switched from a Julian to a Gregorian calendar. How does that affect things? Confused

"Britain and the British Empire (including the eastern part of what is now the United States) adopted the Gregorian calendar in 1752, by which time it was necessary to correct by 11 days. Wednesday, 2 September 1752 was followed by Thursday, 14 September 1752."

SouthernComforts · 20/12/2012 12:03

My pub is having an end of the world party tomorrow night, my boss hilariously sent my shifts as Friday 7-THEENDOFTHEWORLD.

What fun.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 20/12/2012 12:04

So the world isn't ending on 21.12.2012 because it isn't really that date at all.

SirCliffRichardSucksEggsInHell · 20/12/2012 12:09

I think the boffins have taken all the missing dates into account.

Tamisara - but I don't live in Taunton!

Anyway, I shall be visiting a friend then. She doesn't drink so I shall just have to drink for her. Shame.

Do you think the Jehovah's Witnesses are all secretly hoping that this is it, that since they started predicting the end of the world back during WWI that this time it might actually happen? Trouble is, if it does end there'll be no-one around for them say "Told you so!"

everlong I hadn't thought of it being spooky. He was very wise (and a cantankerous, grumpy bloke to boot, but that made me love him more Smile ).

LineRunner · 20/12/2012 12:12

The world actually ended three years ago last May.

Tamisara · 20/12/2012 12:13

SirCliff That's strange. Maybe you're safe then, and only Taunton, Aylesbury & anywhere else it mentions are doomed? Where are you? I'm coming to your town Wink

DecAndAnt · 20/12/2012 12:14

Sircliff you really need to ring your family members today, don't want to rush it tomorrow.
Do come back and update Xmas Smile

LineRunner · 20/12/2012 12:15

So is it wrong to clean the bathroom?

11.12 am GMT

PorkyScratching · 20/12/2012 12:28

Because thats the winter solstice.

MsGee · 20/12/2012 12:29

I was planning to invoice clients tmrw morning before Xmas - so should I aim to get them done by 11.12 or not bother?

PorkyScratching · 20/12/2012 12:31

Weird how the Mayan calander ends in the middle of the day, rather at the end like everyone elses.

whomovedmychocolate · 20/12/2012 12:32

Perhaps they hadn't got anything for dinner and wanted to be sure pesky relatives buggered off home after lunch.

Viviennemary · 20/12/2012 12:34

Is it tomorrow our time or have they not said.

kaylasmum · 20/12/2012 12:47

where did it say that it would be 11.11am? i'm very worried about this.

SirCliffRichardSucksEggsInHell · 20/12/2012 12:48

I hope it doesn't end before dh and I get paid. That's due tomorrow. I'd like to go on a spending spree. I want the world to end whilst I'm bathing in a bath of champagne in a top hotel, eating KFC and drinking St Emilion wine from 1982.

I'd buy the kids whatever they wanted so they'd be distracted by all the toys and I'd make dh wear a proper dinner jacket for the first time in his life.

I'm guessing he might have other plans for the armageddon scenario though so I might have to make do with Clooney.

Did the Mayans take leap years into consideration?

If not then they could be WAY off.

Very Official Countdown

PorkyScratching · 20/12/2012 12:56

It will be 11.11am GMT, because universal time is based on GMT or something.
