in expecting my dc to eat brussle sprouts

I made up a fantastic (imo) bubble and squeek, but added yesterday's brussle sprouts. They refused to eat any of it.

I am not a restaurant, I only cook once, they eat it or go hungary.

Same here. Though it is a bit cruel to serve up a meal that you know they hate in advance.

CuriousMama · 17/12/2012 19:34

Did you tell them brussels were in it? I never tell Wink Cabbage and allsorts goes in mine. I make sure it's very finely chopped though. Covering in cheese or ketchup can disguise it too.

SweetMingePie · 17/12/2012 19:34

MMMMM Brussels sprouts, my favourite vegetable. An you package any leftovers up and send them my way.

IMO YANBU. They don't know what they're missing!

squeakytoy · 17/12/2012 19:34

Maybe they didnt like it though. No matter how someone dressed up something that I didnt like, I wouldnt want to eat it.

However if they have eaten it in the past and like it then YANBU

MrsKeithRichards · 17/12/2012 19:35

Let them eat around it. I refuse to get into battles, I just tell them to eat what they want and that's it.

CuriousMama · 17/12/2012 19:35

Do any of you roast brussel sprouts? They're lush, slightly crispy outside, soft inside mmmmmmmmmmm. My fave too SWP.

MustTidyPlayroom · 17/12/2012 19:37

They are foul, foul things - DS2 (5) loves 'em (and his "say yes to Sprouts" t-shirt from M&S!).

CuriousMama · 17/12/2012 19:40

Well done MTP's ds2 Grin

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 17/12/2012 19:41

YABU - - they are the Devils bollocks. I won't eat them, so I wouldn't make my DD eat them.

amillionyears · 17/12/2012 19:46

You can try to get them to eat them.
Mine have eaten one or two each, when served them over the years.
But they are still on one or two, a decade later Xmas Blush

They eat other veg no problem.

amillionyears · 17/12/2012 19:48

That's one or two each per meal.

NannyEggn0gg · 17/12/2012 19:50

I hate sprouts and bubble and squeak.

LadyBeagleBaublesandBells · 17/12/2012 19:54

Brussels sprouts are revolting, in my humble opinion.
I never ever eat them and I'm old.
Kids have their likes and dislikes just like everybody else, don't force them on them.

DorsetKnobwithJingleBellsOn · 17/12/2012 19:56

DS adores sprouts, eats them cold in the evening after a roast.

HollyBerryBush · 17/12/2012 19:57

boak< e'nuff said

amillionyears · 17/12/2012 19:58

fwiw, I have several kids. After a few years I got fed up of them saying yuk to this and that. and couldnt remember who disliked what, and how much.
So let them all write a list of their 5 most hated foods, and tried not to serve that food to that particular child.
The whole thing worked a treat.
Eventually we realised that really, they only had 3 foods each which they really didnt want to be served.

apostrophethesnowman · 17/12/2012 20:00

Brussels Sprouts are an acquired taste. I only acquired it when I was in my forties!

I really wouldn't force children to eat anything they really hated. If someone tried to do that to me I would be sick.

On the other hands, if they've eaten it happily previously then that's a different matter.

My children would have eaten all the sprouts you could give them. They were very strange children. Xmas Grin

PartridgeInARustyBearTree · 17/12/2012 20:02

If you knew they don't like sprouts, then yes YABU. If they eat them at other times then you're not. But they may have a valid reason if they don't like sprouts

Poppetspinkpants · 17/12/2012 20:05

YABVU in my opinion.
Sprouts are the food of Satan, Taste foul and make you fart.

LadyIsabellasHollyWreath · 17/12/2012 20:11

Think yourself lucky - DS adores them, and will steal cold ones from other people's plates. The atmosphere in the car to visit GPs on Boxing Day will be indescribable.

crashdoll · 17/12/2012 20:16

YABVU. I eat most vegetables but brussels are the except. They smell of rotten farts. Xmas Sad

HECTheHallsWithRowsAndFolly · 17/12/2012 20:16

Yes. They're the work of the bloody devil. Foul things.

crashdoll · 17/12/2012 20:16

*exception

milk · 17/12/2012 20:20
