To be fed up with jealous people who seem to hate anyone who has more money than them?

I seem to epitomise what some people hate - I live in a gated estate, drive a 4x4, am a SAHM and send my children to private school. Why does this mean that some people think this gives them a right to be rude to me or about the choices my family make? I would never look down on anyone who doesn't have or do what I do, so why is it ok to do it the other way round? I am so fed up with it! And you know the ones I really can't stand? Champagne socialists who think they are all left-wing with socialist ideals but are really just like me!

I would not be friends with someone who told me I lived in a naff house (even though my mother implies it all the time :)). On the other hand, I kind of know I do and don't really care when I see the renovation and repair bills for the piles some people I know live in.

One of the reasons I love my big car is because I know it makes the MN fuss pots even more twitchy. My life, my choice, my car. I think a 1990 Micra is a pretty selfish choice as well, especially if you put you kids in the back of it. I am with the OP on that point only. Not jealous though, it's the fucking internet, I can be as rich as I want and young and beautiful to boot.

I would gladly put up with the odd "rich bitch" and "the posh one with the pearls" in exchange for not wondering if I can afford to heat my house, and how much I can spend on food this week. But I am not jealous. I just get annoyed when people boast and gloat, without any empathy and compassion for people most. Arrogant and self centered, like Cameron and his henchmen

OP, yes perhaps some people are jealous. But others are probably struggling and seeing you with what appears to be a much easier life, probably reminds them of how hard things are for them.

DH are comfortably off. Not mega rich but financially secure. A lot of comments that may sound like jealousy are, on another level, statements of fact.

e.g.
Its OK for you, if you don't like the local schools you can just go private - This is true, for various reasons, we chose private over the local schools - we had a choice, most people don't.

Its OK for you, you'd be alright if you lost your job - This is true. We have more than one mortgage free property and sufficient savings to bridge the next 20 years to retirement if we absolutely had to. It would be a reduced standard of living but nothing to complain about.

A lot of people are frightened right now about their futures and the futures of their children so I can understand why those fears get directed at people who seem to be insulated from these worries.

Note - I do get slightly twitchy about the urban 4x4 in Central London whose owners would have the vapours if they got mud on it.

The only sensible reaction to a wind up thread is to take the piss, IMO

I think that both sides of this are bloody mad. Who actually cares? She was bound to be slaughtered, we all rubbed our hands in glee and pulled up a chair. Apart from the absolutely vile comment that made me feel sick, it has been fairly lighthearted. Anyone who says they came onto this thread for anything other than a chance to take the piss out of (or in that one poster's case, bully), is lying. Nobody came onto this thread to genuinely talk about being poor except to try and make the OP look a twat, which was not needed. It is possible to do that without trying to trump their side with your own extreme. I love the internet but I can't say I really care that some woman thinks people think she's too rich, I just wanted to see the lions let loose for my own entertainment. and if you're honest, you probably did the same.

I am glad you have security, wealth and happiness. I am not jealous of that, I am glad your children are growing up without worry. It is something I would give my children if I could, so I can't argue with what you do.

Don't presume we're all out to get you, I don't want the world to be so segregated between us all, not at this time of year especially when it's meant to be about family and celebration.
