That way, all the bigots who've been cluttering up Mumsnet of late could post there and spare the rest of us from reading their biogoted stupidity.

The statement was correct in inner london which I will stand by. White is the minority in affluent areas pendeen, go take a look. My debate was about working class and underclass jobs that are all going to immigrants and I have a huge point that i will stand by. The rich get richer by this equation, which is a logic statement to make.

I have also said I do not blame immigrants I blame the ivory tower government that don't care about working class and under.

ClippedPhoenix · 13/12/2012 00:13

that should have read "non affluent"

MadSleighLady · 13/12/2012 00:16

So "State schools" was in fact short for "state schools in maybe six or seven out of one city's thirty-odd boroughs"?

Pendeen · 13/12/2012 00:16

"The statement was correct in inner london"

Good grief!

What has that to do with Britian? Nothing! Inner London is utterly irrelevant as far as the UK is concerned.

(Let alone Cornwall?)

ClippedPhoenix · 13/12/2012 00:17

Not from where Im sitting pendeen

MadSleighLady · 13/12/2012 00:18

And I'll ask you again, why do you think the number of white children in schools is a reliable guide to what's going on with immigration?

ClippedPhoenix · 13/12/2012 00:20

Ok then MadSleighLady, let me ask you a question, would you send your child to a school that had a higher influx of multicultural children or most of your "kind". Would you send your child to the school with the highest number of immigrants in order for them to understand cultural issues?

what would your choice be?

MadSleighLady · 13/12/2012 00:21

Don't have kids, sorry.

Are you not answering because you sense there's a trap in my question and can't figure out what it is?

ClippedPhoenix · 13/12/2012 00:23

People integrate better when it's a steady stream, every one wants to know different and they can blend, or live along side different. anything on "mass" is awful.

dreamingbohemian · 13/12/2012 00:23

Yes, Britain has a fuckload of people.

Personally I think the problem is not the numbers but the fact that so many things are not managed well.

It's easier to blame immigrants for the housing crisis than to admit that the government's housing policies are rubbish, for example.

Or to blame immigrants for stealing all the jobs when the problem is that the economy is not producing enough of the right jobs and the education system is not matched up well with the needs of business.

To say it's the numbers is too simplistic. It's a convenient distraction though.

MadSleighLady · 13/12/2012 00:24

I'll take that as a yes, then.

You know not all British people are white. And you know not all immigrants are non-white. Don't you?

Pendeen · 13/12/2012 00:26

Back to my point.

"White people are not in the minority in Britian." nonsense

"from where Im sitting" i.e (presumably) "inner london" is - as i have said, "utterly irrelevant."

You are in a minority of the UK. Your environment is not representative at all.

(Neither is mine - Cornwall, I accept that).

The UK is not by any stretch of anyone's imagination, "multicultural"

ClippedPhoenix · 13/12/2012 00:27

I never said it was a reliable guide, that is putting words in my mouth. I said influx and integration where the government is concerned is wrong. You want to change anything, slowly does it. You have anything on mass and people will not cope.

dreamingbohemian · 13/12/2012 00:28

I'm still trying to figure out what my "kind" is.

Gooners? That'll do.

ZombiesAreClammyDodgers · 13/12/2012 00:28

I agree you can be against immigration yet not be racist.
Yet it's surprising how (white) immigration from South Africa or the US or Australia is not that big a problem for a lot of people as dark skinned people from whenever. I agree that the issue goes both ways- people who come to this country have an obligation to fit in and learn the ways rather than try and make their communities little insulated pods of whenever-back-home-was.

ClippedPhoenix · 13/12/2012 00:29

I will also repeat pendeen you come from an ivory tower perspective, I come from a mass inload.

Pendeen · 13/12/2012 00:30

Oops.

Pendeen's bad quoting...

I should have quoted the original...

""It's now a FACT vat white people are a minorittie in Britin.""

ZombiesAreClammyDodgers · 13/12/2012 00:32

wherever in both places, not whenever. Phone autocorrect!!!

ClippedPhoenix · 13/12/2012 00:32

i actuall don't get where you're coming from Pendeen, I'm probably tired and not "getting it".

Time for me to go to bed.

MadSleighLady · 13/12/2012 00:32

Then why bring it up in a debate where your main argument is that there's too much immigration? You must have thought it was helping your case in some way.

The thing is, arguing for a pace of change on immigration is all very well - people do that, without frothing, in intelligent debates in national media.

It's when it's combined with viewpoints like assuming white = British and assuming a person on the internet you can't see is white ("my kind" Hmm) that I start to worry about motivation.

MadSleighLady · 13/12/2012 00:33

Bah, change of pace.

Pendeen · 13/12/2012 01:05

"I will also repeat pendeen you come from an ivory tower perspective, I come from a mass inload. "

That's the point.

Your perspective is irrelevant.

Your view is of a tiny minority of the UK.

Here, 99% white, where you are probably less than 50% white.

I agree I'm probably "ivory tower" as Cornwall is not representative of the UK but neither is inner london.

AmberSocks · 13/12/2012 01:09

havnt read entire thread.

yanbu op.

being racist isnt an opinion, some things are just wrong.

cabalamat · 13/12/2012 07:09

Well, there's a few things that definitely are bigotry, and a few things that definitely aren't, and a lot of things in between -- and everyone has a different idea of which is which.

So let people say what they want. If someone says something you disagree with, give reasoned arguments why you disagree.
