To not really understand why some people find mooncups so disgusting...

Particularly after reading the 'fitting in' thread in AIBU... I just don't really understand, it's just blood, and you still have to deal with it when you use other sanitary products.

If anything, I think it's less yucky, because it collects it and you aren't wiping it off yourself? If it's about things going up there, that doesn't really make sense if you use tampons...

Not keen on the idea of washing blood down a public sink in a toilet cubicle used by others...That is not hygienic for other users unless you carry out full body fluids decom.

I'm sorry but to do that is really unpleasant.

InNeedOfBrandy · 29/11/2012 19:30

No tampons are not sterile but there all wrapped seperately to keep clean, unlike a moon cup hanging about in a cup. I don't believe every single person does not get blood on their hands, you might not but I imagine (and from stories) that your the exception.

IMO it is minging and a step backwards like when they used to have period rags before tampons and pads were in general use.

and this bloody hands in public toilets is just not fair on other toilets users. No matter how much wiping with loo roll goes on

HairyGrotter · 29/11/2012 19:33

I don't put blood down a sink Confused. I empty it into the toilet, wash it with the bottle of water, and pop it back in...I use the sink (either in the cubicle or outside the cubicle) to wash my hands like I would normally.

If I get blood on my hands in the toilet cubicle, I pour some of the water from my bottle over them and wipe them with a tissue. No hygienic issues

KittyFane1 · 29/11/2012 19:33

Oh look, there's an advert for 'soft cup' to the right of this thread... Hmm

RichardSimmonsTankTop · 29/11/2012 19:33

I don't get why people think menstrual blood is so gross? Hmm Are we that scared of our bodies or what?

I mean, I don't bathe in it or anything but really, what's the big deal?

InNeedOfBrandy · 29/11/2012 19:36

Um I would feel the same about any bodily fluid that was not my own. Be that piss, blood, vomit, or menstrual blood.

I don't want to open the door and find a clump of someones womb on my finger.

Water doesn't wash hands on a hygiene issue, water and soap does that.

RichardSimmonsTankTop · 29/11/2012 19:37

InNeedofBrandy - have you ever touched a door handle or a pole in a bus, or pulled out a chair so you can sit on it? Well you've touched other people's faeces. A tiny trace of menstrual blood is the least of your worries.

Loie159 · 29/11/2012 19:37

They are great snd I am a total convert since starting using moo cup earlier this year. I don't think menstrual blood is gross and its pretty easy to learn to use it do you can change it quickly without a fuss. No more period pains for me either! Yes they cost £20 but they last for years. I don't understand why you would want to stuff bits of bleached cotton up your fanjo where it breeds bacteria several times a day tbh

OrangeLily · 29/11/2012 19:38

Please stop saying they are minging until you've tried one. By inference you are calling all us happy users minging!

Pour the blood down the toilet and rinse with bottled water if away from home.

It definitely isn't a step backward. Being able to measure your menstrual flow is excellent and able to give me control.

When you have one in you can't feel it and can be naked (no pants/ knickers) without anything hanging out getting wee on it like a tampon string.

mignonette · 29/11/2012 19:38

Menstrual blood is not gross because it is menstrual but because body fluids should not be poured into public sinks. At any time. You'd bloody freak if you saw a HCP pouring blood down a patient wash sink so why should members of the public have to tolerate it?

Loie159 · 29/11/2012 19:38

Moo cup? Sodding phone - that would be Mooncup!

HairyGrotter · 29/11/2012 19:38

Why on earth would you get some womb lining on your finger?!

I'm quite confused as to how you think these things work! If I get blood on my hands, I wash them with MY OWN WATER over the toilet, THEN I go to the sink and wash my hands with soap and water after...no blood seen

Pooka · 29/11/2012 19:38

So is wiping your bum a faux pas in a public loo too?

I think flushing tampons is minging personally.

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 29/11/2012 19:38

So, this removing them without getting blood everywhere. Can someone talk me through this please?

I thought they stayed in because of suction. How do you break the suction without blood spilling? And what if they are really full, surely blood spills then? And if they are really full, what happens? A tampon will leak, does a mooncup leak, or does it just collect up there?

mignonette · 29/11/2012 19:39

And just because the world is contaminated with the bodily fluids of others is not a good enough reason to casually add to them yourself.....

Fenouille · 29/11/2012 19:40

What do some of you think goes on with mooncups?

You don't generally need to empty them during the day, it's really not like a tampon that you need to change every couple of hours.
I always empty mine down the loo. I wipe it out with a piece of toilet roll and only wash it out ina sink when I'm at home.
I don't get blood all over the toilet or my clothes, just like I don't get poo or wee all over my clothes.
It isn't some sort of blood bath in there!

My periods actually seem to have got lighter since using one weirdly enough.

I can understand they're not for everyone but don't imply all us users are revolting Grin

Pooka · 29/11/2012 19:41

Presumably people are wiping their arses and then touching the lock/handle?

The womb lining smeared on door scenario is w bit hysterical.

RichardSimmonsTankTop · 29/11/2012 19:41

Who pours the contents of their mooncup in a public sink?

I'm certainly not 'casually' adding to any contamination! Hmm

A lot of germophobes around these parts...

GhostShip · 29/11/2012 19:41

I think you're unreasonable to not be able to understand why.

I've tried one, wouldn't do it again. Tampons for me.

Someone mentioned what porn stars use. Usually it's a brand called Beppy. Just a sponge that goes inside. I've used them and they're good and comfortable.

HairyGrotter · 29/11/2012 19:41

I make sure it doesn't 'over fill' as I will empty it regularly as I have that one heavy day. I give it a little squeeze and the suction comes loose, then pop it out.

mignonette · 29/11/2012 19:42

I do not dispose of my rectal waste products down a public sink nor do I flush the paper down there either. wiping your butt or disposing of tampons in a private loo facility or disposal system is not comparable with pouring menstrual blood down a sink which it solely meant for cleaning ones hands. It is not a disposal system for bodily fluids. Tip it into the loo, not down a sink.

Not a major difficulty is it?

Pooka · 29/11/2012 19:43

With tampons wee can get on the string. Or blood can seep down. Just sayin'.

GhostShip · 29/11/2012 19:43

outraged I certainly got blood all over myself, don't care what others say, it's messy! And I can't be arsed 'getting used to it' or practicing. Not when I can use a tampon that's easier and cleaner.

mignonette · 29/11/2012 19:43

These MC threads have had posts in which sink pouring has been mentioned including this one. Why be defensive? Use them by all means but don't pour body fluids down a public sink!

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 29/11/2012 19:44

So doesn't blood squirt when you squeeze? And how do you know when it's full? Can you kind of feel it like with tampons?
