To not really understand why some people find mooncups so disgusting...

Particularly after reading the 'fitting in' thread in AIBU... I just don't really understand, it's just blood, and you still have to deal with it when you use other sanitary products.

If anything, I think it's less yucky, because it collects it and you aren't wiping it off yourself? If it's about things going up there, that doesn't really make sense if you use tampons...

Agree, there are some that are unusable. but the c fold doesn't work for everyone, is certainy doesn't for me, it just won't open. It's probably best to naff around with folding it pre period Wink

confuddledDOTcom · 06/12/2012 00:15

Yeah, I might have a try before my next period, got a bit of time, probably 9-12 months Wink

I worked out that some people struggle with it which is why I said enough for most women.

BTW, is it just me who refuses to use the festives on this thread? Xmas Confused

Had been thinking of getting one of these so went through all the comments. I've just finished my second cycle with a femmecup. Fantastic. I wish I'd discovered them years ago. I'm getting close to the menopause now but I'll never go back to tampons. I used it first when we were away on holiday so out using public loos a lot. Took a bottle of water and some baby wipes in my handbag, didn't find it a problem at all. A couple of times I seemed to 'lose' it but found if I relaxed and then pushed down it was easy to locate and remove. On my heavy days I find it will go four hours before it needs emptying. On lighter days it lasts all day. Periods becoming erratic at the moment and I recently stopped taking the mini pill. One small issue; on a very heavy day I wear some protection in my knickers because the small delay between rinsing out and reinserting the femmecup could result in underwear staining otherwise. Apologies if too much information!

I've just finished using mine for the first time and I love it. I wish I'd discovered them sooner as I'm probably nearer the menopause. They are so different from a tampon or pad but so much better. Your 'routine' will be different and take some getting used to but they hold so much more blood than a tampon or pad you could avoid having to use a public toilet. It's funny how people get grossed out by period blood when it's the same blood in your whole body. Would you be as bothered if you had a nosebleed or cut yourself and it got on your hands? It's also pretty amazing to see how much you actually lose. I've been able to see I lose over 100mls which is a lot! It's made my periods shorter, this one only lasted 2 days! I struggled at first as I didn't take it out properly and the suction gave me cramps but you really quickly get the hang of it. Don't knock them till you try them girls!

Strongmummy · 24/01/2017 22:48

I bought one, tried it, but it hurt so much I couldn't continue with it.

GladAllOver · 24/01/2017 23:01

I'm really surprised about worries over the sound of removal being heard in the next cubicle.
It's far less noisy than the noise of a no.2 dropping in the pan, accompanied perhaps by a puff of 'wind'

NoFucksImAQueen · 24/01/2017 23:05

How the hell do people think flushing tampons is ok? They are designed to absorb, what do you think they're going to do to the sewage system?
You don't flush wipes, tampons, pads, nappies basically anything that's not toilet roll doesn't need to go down the loo. It's not difficult

NotTheMrMenAgain · 24/01/2017 23:15

I bought one years ago but couldn't get it in!

I kept having a go now and then but never got the knack. In the end it sort of 'pinged ' on my episiotomy scar once to often and it wound up in the bin.

ittooshallpass · 24/01/2017 23:16

The blood doesn't bother me, I just wouldn't want to be delving around in my vagina. I won't even use a tampon without an applicator so i know a mooncup isn't for me.

Uiscebeatha85 · 24/01/2017 23:30

I bought one right before I found out I was pregnant and am now ebf! Can't wait to try it out when my period comes back.

Also by the way, tampons are not meant to be flushed down the toilet. You're supposed to dispose of them like sanitary towels.

dollydaydream114 · 24/01/2017 23:37

I was given a free mooncup once. Used it, absolutely hated it, binned it. I found it uncomfortable and messy and it gave me zero peace of mind - but that's just me. Great if other people like them.

There are few things more deeply personal than what you choose to shove up your fanny, and frankly, periods are enough of a chore as it is, so I think it's generally best to just let women make their choices and accept them, rather than trying to guilt-trip or browbeat them into one method or another. Some women do seem to want to push mooncups on others with all the furious zeal of an evangelical preacher in the US Bible Belt.

Ellieboolou27 · 24/01/2017 23:42

Just the name "mooncup" gives me shivers, never heard of them in RLi mean seriously, who the fuck thought mooncup was s sensible name! It sounds so twatty it puts me off

harderandharder2breathe · 24/01/2017 23:45

I have no issue with what anyone else uses but I don't like the thought of them. I don't get periods on the mini pill anyway though which is why I take it
