To not really understand why some people find mooncups so disgusting...

Particularly after reading the 'fitting in' thread in AIBU... I just don't really understand, it's just blood, and you still have to deal with it when you use other sanitary products.

If anything, I think it's less yucky, because it collects it and you aren't wiping it off yourself? If it's about things going up there, that doesn't really make sense if you use tampons...

Gobbler, thanks so much for the MeLuna recommendation. I had never heard of them but my mooncup sometimes leaks a little bit on my heaviest day (either that or there is a fold in it somewhere) and the MeLuna cups seem to offer a much wider variety of sizes and fittings (not to mention the colours!) so I'm going to try one of those.

GobblersSparklyExplodingKnob · 03/12/2012 16:20

Hope you like them, mine is glittery Grin

TrudiRed · 03/12/2012 19:06

OK I've done it! Ordered my red sparkly MeLuna!

ditziness · 03/12/2012 19:40

ooh I'm quite excited by the MeLuna Cup recommendation! thanks for that!

waterlego6064 · 03/12/2012 20:21

Am reading about the three different textures' of the Meluna...I don't know how to 'rate' my pelvic floor muscles though.

I do get a bit of...er...weakness if I try trampolining, say, or jumping up and down at a Pulp concert Blush but they're not completely shot to bits. How is one supposed to know how one's pelvic floor compares to that of the average woman?!

GobblersSparklyExplodingKnob · 03/12/2012 20:43

Tbh, it's a really tough call, it's a shame you can't test them Wink

I have a soft but only because otherwise I can feel if pressing on my uretha and I constantly feel like I need to pee. However I have no problem with it moving and I have a very strong pelvic floor. The only disadvantge with a soft really is that is doesn't opening with the same 'pop' as a stiffer cup, so if you are not used to using one it is a bit harder.

You should be fine with a classic, but it is a bit of a suck it and see Grin

spoonsspoonsspoons · 03/12/2012 22:46

My mooncup is coming up for 9 years old now, eek, I was googling when you should replace them and couldn't find anything definitive.

Debating a meluna because I too sometimes feel it pressing and it feels like I can't fully empty my bladder with it in. Not a problem for me at the beginning of my period as I change every time I wee but might be nicer to have a softer one for the later days.

GobblersSparklyExplodingKnob · 04/12/2012 07:39

That's exactly my problem spoon, from what I have found from googling it is not uncommon. The smaller softer Meluna works really well for me, I can't feel it at all. Whereas my Lunette isn't uncomfortable as such, but I am always aware that it is there.

waterlego6064 · 04/12/2012 10:12

Grin at suck it and see. I'm tempted to go for a soft one too. Like you ladies, I sometimes feel like I can't fully empty my bladder with the mooncup in. Also sometimes feel like I can't poo, which given that I get constipated anyway when I'm on the blob, is a bit unhelpful.

valiumredhead · 04/12/2012 10:14

Meluna is softer? Right, sounds like I need that one. What size? I'm over 40 and had a c section.

valiumredhead · 04/12/2012 10:19

Blimey - this is from the website on how to clean your MC when you are out!

There are several options. Many women urinate on their cup and put it back in place. (Normally, urine is sterile.) Or, wipe your MeLuna with toilet paper or paper towels before reinserting. If you have water at your disposal, you can also rinse MeLuna before replacing. Carrying a cleaning cloth or a water bottle can be very helpful in public toilets, because there is not always a sink within reach

Weeing on your MC - never heard of that before!

InNeedOfBrandyButter · 04/12/2012 10:25

Alright I'm in, I'm going to buy one, 2 dc 3 pregnancys though, and 24. Pelvic floor in pretty good shape I can go on a trampoline without weeing and I don't wee when coughing ect. I like the idea of a soft one when I did that test that was linked I had no idea what to say though.

GobblersSparklyExplodingKnob · 04/12/2012 10:27

Confused I've never pissed on mine!

Melunas are a bit odd, there is a 'what size' guide on their website but they also say wear what fits you. I have had 2 vaginal births and am over thirty but do have a strong pelvic floor, but I wear a medium soft which definately wouldn't be recomended for me. The only bad bit about the soft cups is they don't have the same 'ping' when they open so you need to wriggle around and make sure it is okay, I find a c fold is the hardest to open and a punch down or seven fold works best.

valiumredhead · 04/12/2012 10:29

I just fold my moon cup in half length ways and shove it in and it pings out by itself -perhaps I need the Meluna classic then...

InNeedOfBrandyButter · 04/12/2012 10:37

That youtube clip has confused me even more,

GobblersSparklyExplodingKnob · 04/12/2012 10:37

Grin In half lengthways is a c fold, you can get quite creative y'know......

I think the classic is more like a mooncup in firmness.

Ball, ring, stem or nothing?

Colour or glitter?

I think melunsa almost have too much choice, I got a bit stressed when ordering mine Grin

GobblersSparklyExplodingKnob · 04/12/2012 10:38

Nooooooo BrandyButter, it was mean't to be helpful, it's really, really easy.

Get one.

GobblersSparklyExplodingKnob · 04/12/2012 10:38

Mean't? Meant, d'oh!

InNeedOfBrandyButter · 04/12/2012 10:39

I though it was a thing you just inserted like a non app tampon, all those folds and tricks look complicated.

GobblersSparklyExplodingKnob · 04/12/2012 10:46

You couldn't get it in non folded, they are kind of egg cup sized ish. It's really simple though.

G'wan.

valiumredhead · 04/12/2012 10:48

Oh maybe I'll just try a soft one a see. What size is like a Moon cup?

I am stressed - definitely too much choice!

GobblersSparklyExplodingKnob · 04/12/2012 11:14

Large is probably a big m/c or maybe XL

Unless you are very heavy I would get a L

I am heavyish but my Medium can still last a good 6 hours.

GobblersSparklyExplodingKnob · 04/12/2012 11:14

Oh and I would recommend a ball unless you fancy nothing.

valiumredhead · 04/12/2012 11:41

I will get one with nothing - I trimmed my MC first time I used it and had no problems.

confuddledDOTcom · 04/12/2012 23:34

That video was a bit silly. The C fold is probably enough for most women, can you imagine trying all those fancy folds when trying to change it? And did you see her hands going white from the effort of holding it?
