Been reading various threads on mn with interest for several weeks now.why do u ladies feel do pessimistic about ur work life balance and compete with the ' oh poor me title'. If you want a better quality of life, surely u can downsize and have less financial Responsibilty and then look after ur dc yourself instead of paying others to look after them. I just don't get why you have kids unless you wanna love And look them yourself. This doesnt apply to single parents.is the financial gain worth it?

oh Jenna - i will gladly give up my job if you will pay my mortgage? deal?

its only £690 a month.
thanks.
oh i forgot about the shopping - that ll be another £400 or so.
and the council tax, thats £110.
the gas and leccy, combined thats about £90...
the phone bill too if you dont mind.
and the car tax.
and the petrol bill. (obvs not as much now im jacking in the job....)
the insurances - car/house/life....think they are about £60.
i ll just go dig out my budget planner and get back to you.

now i can say home and concentrate on being the best educator and what ever else it was you said, because money grows on trees in cloud cuckoo land which is clearly where you live. Smile
downsize you say? to what? unless i make myself homeless bills still need to be paid, do they not?

HoneyDragon · 27/11/2012 00:19

I paid for my education so I can like totes fucks it up now man. Amazeballs.

Morloth · 27/11/2012 00:19

Since having DS1 9 years ago I have done pretty much every variation.

Worked full time, worked part time, worked from home, been a SAHM.

I can honestly, hand on heart say that I haven't noticed anything different in the boys, they are happy, secure kids having a fantastic childhood, I am certain of this.

Same applies to my friends, I have friends in all sorts of situations, as they are all without exception loving parents (I wouldn't be friends with someone who didn't treat their kids well), their kids are fine.

Jenna2012 · 27/11/2012 00:20

I have believe it or not very career minded friends who see their child for one hour a day before bed and whose children were raised in nursery from 6 weeks old

So there are two kinds of mothers in your world Jenna - women who give up their work and raise their children supported by their husbands and those who go back to work after 6 weeks and see their children for one hour a day? Confused

Man, you have an odd circle of friends. I'd suggest taking up a hobby and making a wider group of friends.

Jenna2012 · 27/11/2012 00:22

For the last time, I don't understand why you think I'm being SMUG. I merely answering in response to others.

HoneyDragon · 27/11/2012 00:22

Vicar .... I covered that earlier. You can have a box and a goat, and happy little frolicking children.

Kewcumber · 27/11/2012 00:22

Well if your mother was a SAHM mum and you think your childhood was crap - why would you replicate it by doing the same thing Confused

Surely SAHM's are the ideal for children (by your reckoning) and you therefore must have had an idyllic childhood?

Morloth · 27/11/2012 00:22

DH often doesn't manage to see the boys at all through the week.

How come it is only mothers who are selfish?

MurderOfGoths · 27/11/2012 00:23

"For the last time, I don't understand why you think I'm being SMUG."

Your father should have paid a bit more for your education then Hmm

Kewcumber · 27/11/2012 00:23

Why am I posting - I am both single and do not have a flesh and blood child Shock

Good excuse to go to bed...

IAmSoFuckingRock · 27/11/2012 00:24

OP i thought you said you had an unhappy childhood, yet you say your mum was a SAHM. you said you wanted better for your DD. i'm confused. aren't you doing the same as your parents did?

ThatVikRinA22 · 27/11/2012 00:24

oh here OP - have some of my perspective. you seem to have lost yours.

HoneyDragon · 27/11/2012 00:24

Actually in my case Maggie Thatcher helped me out with it too please don't judge me

Jenna2012 · 27/11/2012 00:24

Okay people,,, do u think it's right or wrong to put career over raising ur children. If you have a choice and money isnt an issue. What would you choose?

OP posts:
Kewcumber · 27/11/2012 00:25

How come it is only mothers who are selfish? - did you miss the post where its unnatural for fathers to parent and feminism has gone too far? (I paraphrase)

You'll be wanting the vote next.

ThatVikRinA22 · 27/11/2012 00:25

honey - a box and a goat you say? mmmmm

i could be tempted. Grin

tearypanic · 27/11/2012 00:26

who puts a career over raising a child?

no one i know.

Tweasels · 27/11/2012 00:26

You don't fit in Fuckity. Haven't you heard, there's only two types of mummy's. Really, really good ones who can do the cooking and keep the house all sparkly and nice. They loves their children they do.

Or really, really bad mummy's who only see their children for 1 hour a day and let the nurseries raise them up to be bastard. They don't love their children, they just loves the money.

Jenna2012 · 27/11/2012 00:26

I am so, great observation. But our parenting is very different.
