to think this 'concept' is bloody ridiculous not to mention dangerous and to ask if anyone else would like to give some feedback?!

The Bottle Bib - for those who don't have time to sit and feed their baby Hmm

They have a questionnaire inviting feedback. Please do join me in giving some Smile

Scrambled, I have said that I do not like the product myself, or see a need for it in my home or to use with my kids. I have neither condoned, nor encouraged the sale of the product...and I have acknowledged (repeatedly) that I know nothing about it...factually.

My point was about the language/behaviours etc displayed which constituted bullying by some...which was unnecessarily rude and personal. There were comments that were left that have nothing to do with the product...

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 27/11/2012 22:12

The problem is its not just bottle propping. At least in that case if baby moves much it falls away. This device as far as I can tell firmly holds the bottle in the "correct" position - there is no way to get away from it.

If it has a patent I can't find it - disturbingly there are an awful lot of patents for this sort of device.

Arthurfowlersallotment · 27/11/2012 22:15

Hmmmm, I guess the inventor isn't in La leche..

ScrambledSmegs · 27/11/2012 22:26

To be honest, when it comes to products like this which could actively endanger babies' lives, I can understand feelings running high. Not condoning people going too far (if they have, I don't know what was said on FB & Twitter) but quite frankly if negative feedback is all it took for the business owner to shut down FB & Twitter then she's not really cut out for business at all.

I believe that actually standing by and offering no opinion on a product this obviously dangerous is worse than being rude about the inventor. In effect it is condoning the product, by not condemning it. Not only has she created something that if sold, would put lives at risk, but she has in her own words on her site told us that the inspiration for it came from her using a dressing gown to prop a bottle in her baby's mouth. While she was getting ready, and therefore was not supervising her own baby properly.

I was Shock at that. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the alleged personal comments were in reference to that either.

Jux · 27/11/2012 22:29

If the inventor isn't here, how can she be bullied on this thread?

Where's the trolling? I missed it.

MurderOfGoths · 27/11/2012 22:32

If you did Mai then you'd know trolling is about saying things deliberately to cause a fight. I don't believe anyone has.

Also if you think about the response she's had for a concept, imagine the response if she'd actually had it manufactured, or (even worse) her invention had caused a child to be injured or even killed. In a lot of ways she's got off lightly.

MrsReiver · 27/11/2012 22:36

That seriously disturbed me too ItsAll, there seem to be a remarkable number of these monstrosities patented. I couldn't find one for the 2 in 1 Bottle Bib though. The name the MummaandBubba domain is registered under is nothing like Mai Fraser though.

Presumably it is not a patentable idea as it is not original?

ConfusedPixie · 27/11/2012 22:56

I can't find the patent for this either. Or anything on MaiFraser.
But I do know that Ms Fraser is quite obviously bind if she hasn't realised how dangerous this is.

I would much rather hurt one idiots feelings than see a baby die. If that makes me a bully, then so be it.

MyAmygdalaDidIt · 27/11/2012 22:57

Wowzers. This is, quite frankly, terrifying.

Responsiveness is essential in any feeding of babies.... research supports this from milk feeding onward.

And the cuddling bit, so important, so crucial.

Such a fleeting time in a baby's life - why miss it?

Bloody well get up earlier, stop wearing make-up and feed your baby with the love and attention s/he deserves.

(Is what my feedback would have been if the questionnaire was still taking comments ....)

MurderOfGoths · 27/11/2012 22:59

"I would much rather hurt one idiots feelings than see a baby die. If that makes me a bully, then so be it."

And that would be the succinct way of phrasing what I've been clumsily trying to say Grin

WelshMaenad · 27/11/2012 23:51

I'm struggling to see how it's possible to be 'constructive' when critiquing a product you know has the potential to kill a baby.

It's a nice colour?

VikingLady · 28/11/2012 09:12

I reported the site and bib to the Citizens Advice consumer service yesterday. If the product is deemed safe then the seller will be fine. If not, it will be pulled.

It turns out the website is breaking the law anyway.... No trading address.

FellatioNelson · 28/11/2012 11:18

Frankly, anyone who is so 'busy' that they can't cope with motherhood without employing the use of that contraption should seriously be asking themselves whether they should be a mother at all.

I see the whole website is now shut down until 'further notice'.

MurderOfGoths · 28/11/2012 13:17

That's a slight overreaction isn't it? Surely they only needed to take down the bottle bib page? Bit dramatic to shut a whole site down just because people don't like one part of it.

FellatioNelson · 28/11/2012 14:28

Well I don't know....did you see that knitted shit? That was a crime against babies. First they choke them to death with milk then they pimp them to death with polyester lace. Shock

MaiFraser · 28/11/2012 15:44

Murder of Goths, I think the owner shut down her site because it was inundated with abuse/cursing/bullying/trolling and she seemed to have been repeatedly harassed by MN members, who lacked tack/consideration when slating her product. If it had all been measured and mature, I do not see why any sane person would have reacted as she did.

Turns out mumsnet agrees that some of your behaviour could be described as bullying/trolling/harrasment...just noticed some of your comments were deleted for breaking 'talk-guidelines'. I rest my case.

TunipTheVegedude · 28/11/2012 15:49

How do you know what was posted on her site Mai, if you have nothing to do with her?
Did you hack into the questionnaire responses?
I hope you didn't. That would be very unethical Sad

ScrambledSmegs · 28/11/2012 15:56

Gawd Mai, that wouldn't stand up in court! You can break talk guidelines for many reasons, troll-hunting being one of them. Oh, and goading. I once got deleted for accidentally dropping a spoiler about a tv program onto a thread with no warning!

You may want to revise your opinion that it was only MNers being meanies Hmm too. I've seen this product and website linked to by friends on facebook who definitely aren't MNers. It's gone viral.

junowiththegladrags · 28/11/2012 15:57

Three deleted out of 270 odd posts and you rest your case?

If the inventor of the baby pump machine used the same criteria in her market research then I can understand how she thought it might be a good idea.

ConfusedPixie · 28/11/2012 15:57

Or her server was told to shut the site down due to lack of trading address....?

either way, thank god. Maybe she'll come back later with an idea that won't end up killing a child.

ScrambledSmegs · 28/11/2012 16:03

Personally I think she shut down her site because of the reports to official bodies. Luckily I saved screenshots of her website and 'concept' to the hard drive of my computer and emailed them as well in case of just such an eventuality.

Foresight, eh? Good thing I have it.

bradywasmyfavouriteking · 28/11/2012 16:12

mai what case?

When did mn become a court? Anyway plenty of people gave feedback that are not on MN.

I think she deleted it because she realised that promoting this product was promoting the concept that babies needs are and inconvenience and we should be looking for ways round actually giving them time.

babydude · 28/11/2012 16:15

Umm, Mai, I reported my own posts and asked MN to delete them. Sorry to throw a spanner in your works and all that, but thats the troof.
