I kind of like the idea of a flame throwing potato peeler. Do you have a website pixie?

wewereherefirst · 27/11/2012 20:54

I saw this last week and left a curt response to their product. Their market research hasn't gone well at all with 100% of respondents being against the frankly lazy and dangerous piece of plastic crap.

Anyway, feeding the baby is MN time for me!

babydude · 27/11/2012 20:55

I'd LOVE a flame throwing potato peeler!

You could roast the potatoes while you were peeling them. Do you think you could add something that sprays hot oil over the spuds at the same time?

TunipTheVegedude · 27/11/2012 20:55

Pixie, if your ds has a questionnaire, I will happily provide constructive feedback on his potato peeler there Smile

FellowshipOfFestiveFellows · 27/11/2012 20:56

sock oh yes or you will kill his dream. I'm off to tell my dd she definitely should go kick the girl in her class who got the part of the angel in the school play, whilst she is just a star, and when the teacher calls me and Dp in I shall tell her off for stemming my dds creativity.... Likewise, I will tell ds he is indeed indestructible like a power ranger, so he can jump off the climbing frame at nursery. He'll break his neck arms but at least I can say I am a supportive mummy.

FellowshipOfFestiveFellows · 27/11/2012 21:00

baby watch, she'll probably incomparate that into bib mark 2. "Feed the baby while it cooks the dinner for you. These babies today are well lazy, its about time they gave something back to us Mums".

wewereherefirst · 27/11/2012 21:03

I want a flame throwing potato peeler! I could peel the potatoes for dinner while saving the garden from the neighbourhoods cat shit Grin

IneedAsockamnesty · 27/11/2012 21:03

Baby dude how else do you he's got the flames?

The reason for my previous reluctance was because he wanted to make it out of the toaster and I'm rather fond of toast

babydude · 27/11/2012 21:04

Sock, I am in awe of his creativeness. Seriously dude.

FellowshipOfFestiveFellows · 27/11/2012 21:07

Dudes seriously, a flame thrower the kind of which you get as a cheat on Grand Theft Auto surely is the only way forward, or its just too safe?

IneedAsockamnesty · 27/11/2012 21:12

You think that's impressive, hell has not yet invented what his brother can do with a tube of toothpaste some cling film and a mooncup

starkadder · 27/11/2012 21:13

Like the flame thrower peeler Smile my son, aged 4.5, has invented a hairdryer that is also a gun. Just as safe as this nice bottle-bridle-harness thing.

FellowshipOfFestiveFellows · 27/11/2012 21:14

Well, Dragons Den would be enjoyable.....

TunipTheVegedude · 27/11/2012 21:18

Starkadder, a G&T inventor, how cool is that!

Seriously, the Mumsnet 'my child is a genius but the other mums are jealous' threads would be way more interesting if the thing posters were competing on was not academic achievement but brilliance of infant inventions.

GrumpyCynicalBastard · 27/11/2012 21:18

12 bore hairdryer also sounds like a go-er for me. Imagine the fun! MN at it's creative best here!

MaiFraser · 27/11/2012 21:19

babydude, I am curious to see where you got the connection from. Please pm the link? Perhaps you could also add this conspiracy to the 'fake moon landing' and 'Barack Obama being born in Kenya'...whatever makes you happy! :)

For the record, if the intent was to bully me personally (possibly as well as the owner of the aforementioned business, Sarah from Romford) I am afraid that a lot of you will be grossly disappointed. I am one of those terrible people who voices their opinions soberly-non the less, but impassioned all the same. Especially if this is behaviour that could be displayed/directed at my children :) I say no to it now, and I will say no to it them. Just surprised at the profane/inconsiderate and rude manner 'mothers' are displaying when there are perfectly reasonable words that could be used to express oneself about the product-no less!

CajaDeLaMemoria · 27/11/2012 21:29

Patents aren't hard to find. Have a search, see what you can find.

Then stop insulting our intelligence.

FellowshipOfFestiveFellows · 27/11/2012 21:35

Ok Chairwoman Mai, here is a profound way of describing the general concensus on this product:

Once upon a time, a fair maiden did give unto the world a child. Thusly, the child did not understand the needs of fair maidens to do the housely chores. So, the fair maiden surveyed the clutter that had befallen her, and gave the world an answer. A device to feed the baby without the need for hands. Nay said the many. Yay, said the few. And they all lived in a world of flame throwing toasters and hair dryers which were turbo charged

Is that better love?

MurderOfGoths · 27/11/2012 21:37

Firstly please look up what trolling actually means.

Secondly the vast majority of people have given very constructive feedback. Unfortunately that feedback amounts to "do not sell this product". Just because the almost all the responses were saying the same thing does not mean it is bullying. Maybe some of them were not worded as nicely as they could be, but when someone is planning on making a profit from something that could potentially kill babies of course emotions will run high. And they'll run even higher if the seller then shuts down all methods of communication rather than engage.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 27/11/2012 21:39

Reading some blogs suggests that the phrase "to be used with supervision at all times" is somewhat recent addition to the site...

SlightlyJaded · 27/11/2012 21:44

Oh good lord Mai - the product and all that it stands for is awful and dangerous. Someone posted asking for opinions and the general consensus is outrage and horror. In order to express aforementioned outrage and horror, colourful language was used to emphasise disgust/distaste.

It's not personal, it's not ignorant and it's certainly not 'trolling'

Opinions were sought and opinions were given. Nowhere on Mumsnet does it request that opinions be delivered in a polite and genteel fashion. People have the right (thank god) to express exactly how they feel about anything. they like

Get over it

SmethwickBelle · 27/11/2012 21:51

Haven't read the whole thread.

Just had a quick look at the link. It would only take a moment for a baby to choke on a few teaspoons of milk and that could clearly quickly happen with this device. The baby could very easily be a bit younger than the recommended age, sucks/coughs/vomits, can't turn their head away or pull upright be held upright... The parent would only need to be doing something else for a minute or two and you'd have a suffocating baby.

Yes bottle propping happens but that doesn't mean it's a good idea or one to encourage or facilitate. Some people probably put fizzy pop in baby's bottles but Coca Cola haven't started manufacturing a bottle of coke with a teat.

I am sure the storm of negative comments are pretty horrible for the inventor however that still has to be better than a terrible accident with the product in the marketplace.

ScrambledSmegs · 27/11/2012 21:52

Can you really not see how dangerous this product could be, Mai? We are constantly bombarded with information telling us how dangerous it is to prop bottles in babies mouths, as it could lead to choking. Babies can choke quickly and silently. If a parent/carer isn't right there it can swiftly lead to tragedy. And yet this product does exactly what experts (ie the NHS) categorically tell us not to.

The fact is that pointing this out (in most cases politely, although some people were understandably upset) should not be considered bullying. What's the better scenario? That this product is sold, and a baby/babies die from choking, families are destroyed, the inventor is dragged through the press/sued etc and her life is ruined as well? Or she gets upset by people pointing out the obvious fact that her product is dangerous?

To be honest I think you'd have to be connected to this product or business somehow. No one else would value the hurt feelings of the inventor/business owner above the life of even one single child.

MaiFraser · 27/11/2012 21:54

Caja, I am afraid it is your own intelligence you are insulting - Hilarious!

Murder of goths...there has definitely been trolling, bullying and harassment. And i know 100% what they mean.

Fellowship, I think you may have just earned a curtesy badge...:) I may sleep well tonight.
