Door bell goes and as im sat with ds on my knee feeding him i asked dp to get the door (secretly already knowing it was Jehovah's Witnesses), so off he goes thinking its his dad popped round.

He opened the door and was faced with 2 older gentlemen whose first words to him where " Hello, Can i ask do you have a question you'd like to ask god?"

My dp thought for a few seconds and goes, " yes, how can i get rid of this flu? Ive tried beechams and lemsips but nothing shifting it!"

The 2 men stood stoney faced and persuaded him to look into his sole for meanings of being unwell Hmm i could see them through the window and just couldnt stop laughing Smile

I know that JWs hand out the watchtower. I wouldn't argue with that.

I know that they can do/say some awful things. My family has suffered terrible damage from their behaviour. However, I'm really struggling with ghostships tale.

It is beyond fanciful IMO.

true JW's do not start 'work' at 7 in the morning...not even the most dedicated...that is why I can't fathom why they would be bothering ghostship.

GhostShip · 11/11/2012 22:15

I'm not being funny, well actually I am, but I have better things to do then fabricate 'tales' about Jehovah's Witnesses disliking my skirt.

Even I was shocked to see them that early. So were the people who's doors they were knocking on I suspect. They didn't chose the nicest of areas to wake up of a morning...

No rest for the wicked..

GhostShip · 11/11/2012 22:16

'true JW'? Do tell me, is there a rule book?

And you claim you arent a JW? Why do you seem to think you know a 'true JW' then?

Is someone lying?

Feminine · 11/11/2012 22:22

Listen, ghost...I'm not a witness , never have been.

I have been closely connected with them however.

I'm going to leave it here. I'm also going to apologize for upsetting you and bid you goodnight. Thanks

No bull.

valiumredhead · 11/11/2012 23:06

Just pointing out that some JWs would comment on clothing, paticularly if it offended them

Yes, has happened to me.

and yes they might all be taught in the same way but that doesn't mean they all behave in the same way - utterly bizarre to think they do.

MoleyMick · 11/11/2012 23:38

I think your DH was funny Smile
My mum was once waiting for someone to come and do some electrical work in her house, some Mormons knocked on her door and she answered, thinking it was the electricians, said "Oh I'm so pleased you're here, come in, do you want a drink of water first?" They were thrilled and when she realised who they were she felt so embarrassed she listened to them for a good half hour, all sat in her living room drinking tea Grin
I don't like it when they come to my door but find a "not interested, sorry" suffices.

MoleyMick · 11/11/2012 23:41

Oops, see the thread has moved on a bit, sorry Blush

Moominsarescary · 12/11/2012 00:15

I wish they wouldn't continue with their trying to convert and watchtower handing out when young teenagers answer the door. Preaching to adults is one thing but 14 year olds isn't on IMO

I've always found them quite polite but hanging around schools and talking to kids who answer the door is just wrong.

I can totally believe ghosts story.

Just when you think you've heard it all - you get an almost JW trying to convince everyone they must be fake JW's Grin

They can believe whatever totally screwed up thing they want to - just not on my doorstep. The will get one fairly pleasant 'No thanks' if they don't piss off leave, they wont get another, they will get told very firmly to leave or have the door shut on them.

I'd love to hear their comments on my clothing Grin

McPhee · 12/11/2012 03:23

Brilliant Grin

Feminine · 12/11/2012 06:52

chipping I am no way an "almost JW" Confused and Angry

If you read my contributions here, you will see my family has suffered at the hands of the JWs many times.

But,I know how they roll.

I originally started off by saying (in an almost jokey way) that they were fakes, as what was being blamed on the witnesses was very unlikely.

I still believe many of you have encountered a 7th day adventist (s)

It would be very rare for a witness to come on here and argue the toss, this would be a frowned upon , secular hobby!

sashh · 12/11/2012 07:28

OK I'm going to shock you now.

Did you know JWs actually have a sense of humour? Actually not one collective one, they have one each. Their humour obviously changes from JW to JW.

There will be some JWs having a laugh at your dh's answer OP.

ChippingInLovesAutumn · 12/11/2012 08:16

Feminine - funnily enough, I had actually read your 'contibutions', I have no idea what makes you think I hadn't? I read that some of your family members 'suffered' at the hands of JW's, which makes your defence of them that much more difficult to understand - very strange.

Over the years, there have been a fair few JWs come on the boards to 'argue the toss', it just goes to show they aren't carbon copies.

Feminine · 12/11/2012 08:27

yes, I know they have a sense of humour.

I get tired of hearing jokes about/involving them though.

Its always a sure thing that it will raise a joke if they are mocked.

As I said at the start, I have no idea why people don't just say "no thanks" or be really radical and ignore the door?

Rank and file witnesses are only doing what their faith demands, they are only going door to door for good. It might be misguided, it might be wrong ...its just all they know.

There are masses of problems at the Watchtower HQ ~ very worrying actually, but still the JWs most of us meet are just doing what they feel is right.

That is why I am so defensive of them. I am still surprised that in 2012 (with all the understanding we are now taught) that they are still fair game.

I despise misunderstandings about them.

ChippingInLovesAutumn · 12/11/2012 08:45

Feminine - your stance on this is very strange.

valiumredhead · 12/11/2012 08:57

But the OP wasn't laughing at JW's - the OP was laughing at her husband if anything!

You don't know why people don't just say 'no thanks' when they knock on the door? Perhaps that are pig sick of being disturbed at 8 am in the morning after a night up with a new baby/ill child/night shift? Depending on people's circumstances it can take great effort to get to the front door to answer it and to find it is a JW who has come to see if they can make you see the light can be the last bloody straw sometimes, that's why.

My best friends at school were JW's so have spent a lot of time with them as I knew their family and friends too - it certainly doesn't make me want to defend any part of their religion.

MurderOfGoths · 12/11/2012 09:27

"It might be misguided, it might be wrong ...its just all they know."

Oh well that's alright then Hmm

Feminine · 12/11/2012 09:40

murder no, its not.

But it is their right to hold the views that they do.

you have the option to ignore.

Moominsarescary · 12/11/2012 09:47

And if someone asks you a question you have the right to answer in whichever way you choose. The ops dp wasn't rude to then, he didn't mock their beliefs.

Alisvolatpropiis · 12/11/2012 09:52

Why should you have to ignore your front door though? I'm all for people practicising their religion until they're in my face about if.

JW's make themselves fair game by forcing themselves and their beliefs on people. No main branch of Christianity does it,Muslims don't do it,Jews don't do it,Hindus don't do it.

Feminine · 12/11/2012 09:53

moomin

Would there be any point in starting a thread on it though?

cheap joke IMO.

Feminine · 12/11/2012 09:54

They don't force anything I should know.

I've got them coming out of the bloomimg woodwork.

Nobody has ever forced me to do anything.

They just are.

They just want to spread the word.

You can ignore. Like me.
