Door bell goes and as im sat with ds on my knee feeding him i asked dp to get the door (secretly already knowing it was Jehovah's Witnesses), so off he goes thinking its his dad popped round.

He opened the door and was faced with 2 older gentlemen whose first words to him where " Hello, Can i ask do you have a question you'd like to ask god?"

My dp thought for a few seconds and goes, " yes, how can i get rid of this flu? Ive tried beechams and lemsips but nothing shifting it!"

The 2 men stood stoney faced and persuaded him to look into his sole for meanings of being unwell Hmm i could see them through the window and just couldnt stop laughing Smile

I don't disagree with anything you have written. old

I've talked about how I don't agree with any of the teachings.

What I don't like (and here comes the boring bit) is that I don't like them to be the butt of typical

I know many of them to be warm and caring (as) family and friends.

Feminine my best friend at school was brought up as a JW so I do know more than most. I was very unimpressed with the whole thing. Her parents lost interest in being JWs when she grew up so they basically screwed up her childhood. She was taught that the world was going to end when she was 15, how mad is that?

BTW PA = Passive Aggressive.

Very glad to live out in the sticks now where we are not bothered by them. They were a pain calling out of the blue normally at inconvenient times. Now I think PPI mis-selling automated calls have taken their place.

I've only met nice JWs. But I'm sure as with any group of people there are the good and the bad.

The point being anyway you do rather open yourself up to people being annoyed if you knock on doors.

Anyone who keeps coming back when they are asked not to is an idiot in my book.

Dont call them idiots...just because their beliefs differ they are not idiots. As I said before, one of my closes friends is a JW........her daughter got married a couple of years ago and me, DH and DS were invited to the wedding. We were the only non witnesses there - they were a lovely bunch, the youngsters are so thoughtful and they all stick together in times of trouble.

When my mum died my friend was my rock....she is certainly not an idiot.

"MrsD can you not tell them you have joined a coven of witches and start talking about spells and shit to make them do one"

Doesn't work :(

NB. Before Feminine takes offence at that one, I'm Pagan, I'm joking about my beliefs

Also, there are JWs on MN!

"you have the option to ignore."

I should also have the option to be left in peace without idiots coming to my door trying to convert me

I'd never mock them either since they rang on the door bell and I ignored it, but they kept on and on ringing. Eventually I answered the doors and said 'are these your car keys?'. God bless them!

How interesting. Perhaps you could expand.

ivor could you explain to that insult you just gave me?

PA? don't know what you are on about?

This thread has illustrated to me,how little many of you know about JWs.

You can bet your last dollar that if I was one, I would not be here.

Wheresmygalaxy it was the part where you told another poster to stop posting, that was the bit I thought was you being shirty, not any question you asked.

I don't need to jump to someone else defense I am sure that poster can defend themselves very well, I am allowed to post my opinion as this is an open forum and often threads will go on for days and days with complete strangers giving their opinion - that is why threads get to 1000 posts and then another one is started.

Your post was started by you in what you thought in your opinion was light hearted - for someone else that opinion was different and they didn't see it as light hearted and didn't see it from the angle you wrote it.

As to the fact your post was not about JW and you want to be clear about that - well it was you that mentioned them in your very first post, so I guess that is why I assumed your post was about JW (secretly already knowing it was Jehovah's Witnesses) it was you that wrote it.

op do you understand how a message forum works?

everyone is allowed to contribute.

You sound a little controlling.

Most people here today agreed with you, I didn't. I'm not bothered , I don't know why you are? Confused

PickledFanjoCat · 12/11/2012 13:29

Well it was not particularly offensive in my opinion.

Whatever job you do that involves cold calling on phone or door to door, I'm
Sorry you need to maintain a thick skin.

ivykate asking a question now = being shirty Hmm. I dont see why you feel the need to jump to other peoples defence though, when a reply was aimed at someone else.

My point was, yes we are all adults, yes we have different views, yes you are entitled to your opinion, To carry on that opinion and argue with complete strangers for 2 days though beggars belief. Let it go. We all dont agree, I accept that, i find it hard to take in though adults who cant see that all people are different and spend 2 days arguing their point.

If you read my post again you will understand, that is the angle i am coming from. If you wish to carry on wasting your time, then fair enough. My op was meant in a light hearted manner, if you dont like it then move on, dont waste your time arguing with people you havent met and calling them liars for saying things happened that you have no idea if they did or didnt.

Yes there may possibly be jw's on here, although if any have posted they havent said they were.

My whole original post WAS NOT ABOUT JW'S. Sorry i dont know how much clearer i need to be about that. To turn it into something it was not just makes me think people have too much time on their hands and were looking for an arguement from the start.

Goodbye.

If anyone comes to my door I think it would be up to me whether I mock them or not. Same for people who cold call on the phone - JW or not!

I don't really like people coming to MY house pushing views on me whether thats cheaper gas rates or religious views.

Op if it made you laugh and have a giggle fine, but you can't expect to come on here and post a thread and then get shirty if there is another poster that don't find your joke on that person funny and then says they don't find it funny - you posted in AIBU and most people agreed with you and had a laugh, but due to one person writing that they didn't agree with you you don't seem to like it.

As far as AIBU goes you got a light ride almost every other poster that wrote agrees with you, feminine stood up and said I don't agree and this is why I don't agree.

Hardly a crime to object to a joke they didn't find funny and then say so.

added to which it has made me stop and think about the way I treat doorknockers, they are after all human and this thread has made me wonder if I can't be a bit more gracious in my no thank you

Well op a few posters have asked me questions, I feel it would be rude to ignore them.

You might have started the thread, but that does not give the right to try and control it.

I have taken a lot of flack on this thread. If I can handle it, surely so can you?

Knowing a fair bit about JWs its up to me if I want to share.

I'm wondering though, did you not think there would be any witnesses on here?
