I'm in an age gap relationship and things like this really annoy me

www.baby.co.uk/mum_stories/celebrity-age-gap-parents/

Am i over reacting? Any other age gappers out there?

OP posts:
DontmindifIdo · 08/11/2012 18:42

also, being all shallow here, but looking at that photo, I would not say Mariah Carey was 10 years older than her DH, she's got a good dermotologist aged well or she's broken him

BonkeyMollocks · 08/11/2012 18:42

Why not B1ueberry ?

It works for some!

SirBoobAlot · 08/11/2012 18:43

Sod off B1ueberry, there's a love.

BonkeyMollocks · 08/11/2012 18:54

In fact dh is older than my dad....and mum Grin

VirginiaDare · 08/11/2012 18:55

why would an article like that annoy you? There is nothing negative said whatsoever.
Are you sure its not you who has an issue with it?

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 08/11/2012 19:00

14 years between me and DH. He looks young for his age, I am ageing disgracefully and prematurelyBlush

It's a complete non story, no one really cares about age gaps I don't think. I have no idea if strangers notice the gap between me and DH, family and friends don't really anymore. We are very alike and have a great relationship. We've been together 17 years this year and have 2 lovely boys

SarryB · 08/11/2012 19:01

There's 9 years between me and OH - not exactly old enough to be my dad!!

We make the occasional joke about what an old man he is, or what a child I am, but it really doesn't matter to us. We're 35 and 26.

Casmama · 08/11/2012 19:06

I think OP you are being a little over sensitive. 16 years between my dh and me and not bothered at all by it or the article.

StrangeGlue · 08/11/2012 19:11

The most annoying things about that article is that they called Sam Taylor-Johnson Taylor-wood and missed one of angelina's kids off (Maddox). I didn't think it was derogatory.

whois · 08/11/2012 19:12

It's OK whois, I plan to be living on his life insurance by then

Grin

7 years between me and my DP. I was at UNO when we got together and it felt a lot when I told people.

Nothing now I'm mid/ late twenties.

Expect the 7 years between his retirement and mine will feel VERY long!

whois · 08/11/2012 19:12

Uni, not UNO

KatyPeril · 08/11/2012 19:13

11 years between me and the boyf. I love my silver fox!

B1ueberryFields · 08/11/2012 19:13

Well clearly if he's not old enough to be your dad then I didn't mean you SarryB.

MonkeyBollocks, was that hard for your parents. I'd find it hard if my dd ever came home with a man my age. Even if she were happy I know I would still find it hard.

BonkeyMollocks · 08/11/2012 19:27

My parents and dh do not get on - however , that has nothing to do with the age gap and more because they are stubborn selfish arses.

Would you not be happy if your dd found a man who cared/loved/never hurt or let her down?? I know I would be!

We have been together now 8 years, out relationship is rock solid, we never argue, we have been through the shit and back and come out the other side and have a 4yo very happy son!

And get the name right Wink .

SirBoobAlot · 08/11/2012 20:03

You would find it even harder if she came home with a guy the same age who treated her like absolute shite.

Stop being so judgmental.

And if you project that attitude on to your DD, she is more likely to lie to you about her relationships in the future.

moleskin · 08/11/2012 20:13

21 yrs between me and Dh. We have two kids together both with behaviour issues. Tbh I think if I was with a bloke my age he would've fled longgggg ago! Not much fun when your kids don't sleep - ever!!! And you can't leave them with anyone to go out on the town. It takes all sorts to make the world go round. As long as people are happy that's all that matters

CherylWillBounceBack · 08/11/2012 20:18

The rule is divide the older by two, and add 7.

technoduck · 08/11/2012 20:19

9 years difference between me and dh.

Shoshe · 08/11/2012 20:20

DH is 10 years younger, well soebody has to keep me in my old age :)

MrsGrieves · 08/11/2012 20:25

18 years between me and dp, and blueberry my Mum was a judgemental old moo at times, I lied about basically everything Blush, good luck with that attitude.

PosieParker · 08/11/2012 20:28

I think an age gap can sometimes automatically give a power dynamic that isn't as automatic in same age relationships.

redpanda13 · 08/11/2012 20:28

My gran and grandad had an 11 year age gap (him being the younger). They were married until my gran had a heart attack at 91 years old. He had been the one who seemed older and more infirm too. He died shortly after.
Taught me that as long as your happy together who cares what other people think.

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 08/11/2012 20:30

Bonkey, snap, DH is older than my folks. They get on pretty well though.

I think I've posted this before, but I did giggle when we paid DD's final pre-school bill with DH's first state pension payment :)

ScooseIsOnTheLoose · 08/11/2012 20:30

Nearly 9 years between dh and I he's older but acts younger! Hmm we don't even notice the gap though tbh it's never been an issue in the 8 years we have been together.

janey1234 · 08/11/2012 20:32

Almost 9 years between me and my DP - but I'm the older one. Don't think about it much - although will be glad when he turns 30 in a couple of months and we're (briefly) in the same decade! Blush
