...not to want dh to wander around half-naked?

cavell · 04/11/2012 17:07

Particularly when, by "half naked" I am referring to the bottom half?
Dh likes to wander around wearing just a t-shirt/shirt and no pants such that his "bits" are left dangling. Sometimes he even has socks on, too.
AIBU to find this borderline revolting? It reminds me of a potty-training toddler, tbh.
Background: together 20 years, married 15, two dds aged 11 and 7. DH's body is okay, albeit a bit skinny. He knows I don't like to see him walking around in his state of undress, but he thinks I am becoming prudish and that he should be able to relax in his own home and not worry about what he is wearing... Should add also that my libido is very low at the moment and seeing his undercarriage peeking out from the bottom of a t-shirt isn't helping at all.
AIBU?

Christ, if your daughter's are telling him they don't like it why on earth can't he just put it away? Or stick another bloody sock on it

DontmindifIdo · 04/11/2012 18:37

BTW - if he was completely naked this wouldn't be half as weird, he's like an animal who's "displaying" to mark his territory, if he starts peeing circles round his stuff you know it's time to LTB.

BooyhooRemembering · 04/11/2012 18:37

"I don't think it is wrong.
I don't think it is inappropriate for children to see their parents naked.

BUT I wouldn't like it. It would just get on my nerves tbh.

Besides, we live in a small house. I have wooden blinds and a glass panel in the door. We live around a green. Half the green would be getting an eyeful on a daily basis!

Some men just seem to want to display their willies. "

yes and some of them get arrested for doing exactly that. wanting to do it doesn't mean everybody should have to see it.

sorted.

JustFabulous · 04/11/2012 18:38

And there it is. The accusation that people are "uptight" because they prefer to not have to look at a dick all day long Hmm.

OHforDUCKScake · 04/11/2012 18:39

I wouldnt mind my DP doing that. But then, Ive always quite liked the look of his willy.

Cahoots · 04/11/2012 18:39

Have you tried the point and laugh method, I am sure it would work eventually.

ChippingInLovesAutumn · 04/11/2012 18:40

Oh god don't do that - that'll totally traumatise the poor little loves!!

The girls and you have made your feelings clear - why is he ignoring you all?

AnyFucker · 04/11/2012 18:40

chipping, yes, it's affecting her libido (and I don't blame her)

but it wouldn't be the physical sight of a bell end winking at me over the cornflakes in full view of my daughters, it would be the idea that this nobber thinks it's ok to do that in the first place

and a lot of posters are concentrating simply on how silly or ugly it looks

fgs, one poster even said she finds it a turn on when her H is naked below the waist when in bed which is absolutely nothing to do with OP's situation here

it is not about sex, it's about control and marking your pitch like some sort of dog

WhereYouLeftIt · 04/11/2012 18:41

Does he put a towel down on a chair before sitting on it, OP? Or even consider the hygiene aspect?

WofflingOn · 04/11/2012 18:42

'But it can't be about comfort, can it? Because then he'd just pop a dressing gown on'

Dressing gowns can be too hot, and they often tie round the stomach which is less than comfortable. Socks on your feet insulate and keep your toes warm.

AnyFucker · 04/11/2012 18:43

shirt and tie but with knob hangin gout ?

that is nothing to do with comfort

if it were truly that, he would be totally naked

piprabbit · 04/11/2012 18:43

He needs a man kaftan - seriously, something which is as comfy as a T-shirt, but long enough to hide his bits. Problem solved.

headinhands · 04/11/2012 18:43

chipping from what op said one dc finds it a 'bit embarrassing' and one just giggles. What's to consider? I find it a tad embarrassing when dp dances. Should I make him promise to never dance again?

ChippingInLovesAutumn · 04/11/2012 18:43

OHforDUCKSake - :) I'm with you there - in a way. With some exs this would have been perfectly fine Grin and others perfectly revolting Grin for me but I think for the children it's always a YUCK.

IvorHughJackolantern · 04/11/2012 18:43

He's an adult living with three other people.

Those three other people have made it clear to him that they find this aspect of his behaviour unpleasant and uncomfortable, but he persists with it regardless.

Really it's nothing to do with the nob-flashing, and everything to do with the fact that he's behaving like a selfish arsehole.

I am loving the suggestion of tying a little bell to the end Grin

I loved my dad very very much and was glad to he was my father- but to have ahem Physical proof of that bobbing in the breeze might have dented those feelings quite a lot [ vomit]

DameEnidsOrange · 04/11/2012 18:45

"it is not about sex, it's about control and marking your pitch like some sort of dog "

^ that, exactly that

Helltotheno · 04/11/2012 18:47

OP have you stood up to him properly and told him it's not on? Forget hints, have you said 'Knock this on the head or sex between us will just be a happy memory for you from now on'?

Because basically the issue here is that you don't want him to do this and he's still doing it against your will. Strong words needed now....

ChippingInLovesAutumn · 04/11/2012 18:48

headinhands "It's embarassing...why doesn't dad put some trousers on?" or: "Yuk! I can see your willy. It's disgusting!"

I think the girls are making it perfectly clear they aren't happy about it.

What's to consider

Their feelings. Isn't that enough?

There's a world of difference between dancing and waving your flacid penis around your children Hmm

AF - totally agree that the fact he doesn't give a shiney shit about his wife and daughters feelings would be the biggest turn off. And if he didn't stop it, it would get to the point that his lack of consideration would be ending the relationship for me.

BooyhooRemembering · 04/11/2012 18:48

WTF?
MRSD i have no mission to be pitted against you. you said i quoted out of context so i reposted with your full post. i have no desire to piss you off if that's what you think. apologies if that's what you think but without causing offence you aren't on my radar. i quoted a post (didn't look at who posted it) then you asked me not to so i posted it in context. that is all.

QuickLookBusy · 04/11/2012 18:49

Yes, he's like a dog going around marking his territory.

You don't like it, he should respect that and put on a bathrobe.

He can then let everything dangle but you don't have to look at it.

garlicbaguette · 04/11/2012 18:49

it's about control and marking your pitch

Interesting. I think you must be right, AF, entirely because his wife and children have asked him not to do it and he persists.

XH1, btw, was a very classic narcissist of the abusive variety. He genuinely didn't like his lower body feeling restricted and was, additionally, very much in love with his penis. I didn't have an issue with the Potty Training Look but our kitten did! [cackle] When we told other people the hilarious Kitten Stealth Attack story, we were unprepared for widespread startlement at the news of H's home attire. After he realised they all thought the was a prat weirdo, he adopted sarongs and long tops (not both together).

OP. Get a kitten.

DontmindifIdo · 04/11/2012 18:51

so for Christmas, buy him this

or maybe this?

comedycentral · 04/11/2012 18:55

It's all about him and his comfort. You have all protested but he continues to do it. He seems very selfish. What are your next steps as a family now regarding this? Is it a put up and shut up situation?
