I have poured 2 litres of coca cola over a gammon joint and put it in a low-heat oven.

It looks, frankly, vile.

Mumsnet has promised me that in 5 hours time, it will transform into a feast of loveliness.

AIBU to have doubts?

I'd love to try something in cider (well DH would anyway!)

It's very nice in apple juice too.

I can't believe all these people who've never heard of ham in coke. I think it ought to be on the MN for beginners page with all the acronyms.

"Gammon, full fat coke, onion, simmer for 3 hours or forever in slow cooker. No, really, honestly, it's nice. This is not a windup."

I boil my leg of green bacon/ham/gammon whatever you want to call it for 4 hours (gives you lovely ham stock!), then take the skin off, score it, rub in a mixture of soft brown sugar and Colman's mustard powder, stud with cloves, pour over some coke and then put in the oven at 180 for an hour, basting occasionally (and adding more coke if necessary).

Scrummy :)

Yep no liquid needed at all, I think it's a mixture of the sugar melting down and a bit of liquid from the gammon going into it. Pour it into a bowl/jug afterwards and drizzle a little bit over your potatoes. It's very good!

I am going to give this a try!

I'm making this, this weekend. I have never done it before but it sounds delicious. My mouth is watering
