Because my mum thinks it isn't, and I should cut mine. It's very cheap to have long hair and also you can tie it up when you can't be asked to wash it

I'm 38 with long hair, I did get a fringe cut in and it's brilliant, but I intend to have long hair forever... when I go grey, the halloween constume will be really easy (unbrushed hair, long nightie) and I can always wear it in a bun.

I love long hair. I doesn't suit me if I just let it grow, not like my hippy style of my youth, but it will always be long... get a fringe if you must, but even if you don't, you shouldn't cut it for your mother. Tell her she's out of touch and old.

I have just had mine cut very short, pixieish. I look years younger than I did with long hair ( mind you, my hair had hermione tendencies).

What I did find was that the mid length layered bobs and such I experimented with in between long and very short we're very mumsie and ageing.

I am going to go grey though, don't like the short beigey/ blonde look.

I am 43 and have mid back length auburn hair. Luckily only one or two grey (silver) bits - is it true redheads don't go grey?

My hair has always been dead straight and I find it very cheap. Have my fringe cut for free when it gets too long and have it cut about twice a year. When I wash it I never dry it (don't go out much) so it's still in very good condition (that's my opinion and I'm sticking to it).

I had it short for a lot of years as it was very thin and that helped it thicken up and I love it long and will make the most of it whilst I can.....

mouldy, I will be proud to look like a witch [hsmile]

I think people with cute streaked pixie cuts and wrinkles look much more deluded- mutton/lamb.

I intend to have my very long hair bleached to pure Goth white when grey starts appearing, so I look more like Erda.

ginny, I am a) [henvy] and b) in awe - past your knees?! How do you manage it, do you tie it up, or leave it loose?

jaggythistle · 30/10/2012 12:22

YANBU! buggered if I'm getting mine cut next year. and i might not dye it when i go grey

I've not had mine cut for so long that my hairdresser is now on mat leave and wasn't even pg last time i saw her Blush Actually Iwas only just pg and now have a 6 month old. BlushBlush The ends are a bit straggly, but i have v straight hair all the same length and it is tied back most of the time.

CallumnKittysmum · 30/10/2012 12:33

you're not too old for anything at 35!! I'm 43 and started growing mine at 40 before it turned white/ fell out/tore it out.. It's now bra length, just a few greys and lovely. Ive also bought a 600cc motorbike, passed my test, given up nursing after 25 years and enrolled on a degree course at the local uni. Oh, and doing my gliding pilot's license. My kids think I'm awesome, parents think I'm nuts! Midlife crisis? I prefer "second bloom of youth " lol x

I'm 42 and have had long hair all my adult life. I love it. I can't wait to let it all go grey. I'll keep it long but condition it well so it still looks glossy rather than nesty.

Mosschopz · 30/10/2012 20:54

I'm 40 with long hair. Cut it short for the first time in 10 years after DS was born in 2010 and someone at work told me I was 'growing up'. That was all the incentive I needed to grow it again!

CombineBananaFister · 30/10/2012 21:02

I had hair to my bum until last week (age 38) and I had 8 Inches cut off BUT it was donated to the LITTLEPRINCESSTRUST for wigs and although my head feels weirdly light and I thought I would be growing it back straight away, it's actually so nice not getting ponytail headache

whizmum · 30/10/2012 21:11

I am 49 and one month ('nearlyf 50' according to the doctor I will not be seeing again.

Have shoulder length hair, as the curl goes out of it if it is any longer. Dye it a lighter shade of brown to cover the grey at the front. I find the grey dulls the mid brown colour, and this helps.

I had a 98 year old friend who used to say that I did not look old enough to have a son of 21! Grin (98 year old friends are worth having Wink)

digerd · 30/10/2012 21:24

I've had a pony tail since I was 10. When I got to 40 I really thought I should have it cut, but knew no other style would suit me. I had dark brown hair which was not very thick, and often had it up, when people said I looked like Margot Fonteyn. When I got to 50, I didn't think much about myself as my husband had been battling cancer for 7 months, and had just been told he was in remission - 5 years at the most they said. He did die almost 16 years ago, but I still have my hair in a pony tail, or sometimes down but curled.

My sister had long blond hair scrunched into tight wavy bits at 55 and looked 35.

Not even a woman telling me, at 59, I looked like a young woman with an old face and that I should cut my hair shorter, I took not notice of her.

digerd: people who say things like that should not be taken notice of. It is usually some problem of their own that they are talking about!
