I have no belief in derren browns psychic ability. his usual hypnosis shows are blatantly all set up with actors/actresses. I have had many an argument about this in the past with dh. His current 'apocalypse' show- if it were real- would be a Jeremy beadle gone (far) too far. However, this apocalypse show is mildly entertaining. At least he is admiting that there are actors involved- though clearly guy who is supposed to be hypnotised is an actor too. (Dh thinks otherwise)

Steve Brosnan was the star of Derren Brown: Apocalypse, turns out he's an actor

He's more convincing as a microwave than he is as an apocalypse victim :)

The derren brown is clickable and it links you to this here

This is not evidence that THE DB posted that video of course, but it is not anonymous. It clearly says "Published on Oct 27, 2012 by Derren Brown"

Where are you getting anonymous from?

UltraBOF · 27/10/2012 16:53

Ah, mine has a random string of letters and numbers.

Crimebusterofthesea · 27/10/2012 16:53

The 'Derren Brown' that posted that clip joinedYyoutube today and has only posted that one video. I'm being sucked in, aren't I?

VivaLeBeaver · 27/10/2012 16:56

Well someone calling themselves Derren brown is spamming the real Derren brown's Facebook page with links to this actor bloke and saying the whole thing is really odd. He's also saying there were lots of wizard of oz references in the show.

HeinousHecate · 27/10/2012 16:56

yes, according to the other stuff, the actor's name is carl.

But who knows?

No doubt we'll be treated to some lecture about human nature and making us all do X, Y and Z Grin

And whatever folks do he'll claim was the point of it all and what he intended in the first place.

VivaLeBeaver · 27/10/2012 16:57

not sure how relevant

Crimebusterofthesea · 27/10/2012 16:57

I've just seen that viva - really strange. The same person that put the clip on Youtube?

TheHamish · 27/10/2012 16:57

The one I see is posted by Bjl group.

DS(14) and I watched the programme where Derren Brown convinces some poor lad that the world is about to end -- for his own psychological good of course and not just to humiliate him in public, yeah right. It turned out that the victim?s family and friends were all in on the fraud which therefore requires much less skill on Derren Brown?s part, so I suggested to DS that maybe the whole thing was a set-up and the victim was in on it too. DS asked me why I did I have to be such a cynic!

HeinousHecate · 27/10/2012 16:58

karl greenwood.

is this the guy?

MurderOfGoths · 27/10/2012 16:58

It's a video uploaded by someone who signed up after the show, and who has no other videos.

Why do you think it is more likely to be a fictional company than a fictional youtube account?

UltraBOF · 27/10/2012 17:00

I got the wizard of oz references last night, when Derren said he was teaching him courage, something and compassion, ie courage, brains and a heart.

TheHamish · 27/10/2012 17:01

But the Zugos I see was posted by BJL Group in April and they have loads of other videos posted.

AntoinetteCosway · 27/10/2012 17:02

He's an adult in that video but Friends finished about 10 years ago.

I am utterly convinced that this is all part of it. There is no way in hell Derren Brown and his entire production team would forget to delete info about the guy from the Internet.

HeinousHecate · 27/10/2012 17:03

Friends is also repeated time and time again. I have seen this advert when friends is being shown on comedy central or whatever it's called.

friends is still being shown to this day on there.

TheHamish · 27/10/2012 17:04

Zugos are sponsoring re-runs of Friends as of this year according to the BJL Group website.

Panzee · 27/10/2012 17:09

That advert is currently on Comedy Central, who shows Friends now.

HeinousHecate · 27/10/2012 17:11

karl greenwood

programme

hair is different, and of course, the beard. but I am certain it's him.

But it was very clear it was an actor.

I am now interested in the point of the whole thing Grin

CuriosityKilledTheCrap · 27/10/2012 17:14

I've just been to Morrisons and I normally shop at Aldi ShockShockShock

It's worked - he's in my miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiind

Wish I read this first though and thought to look out for Zugo's (never heard of them!)

givemushypeasachance · 27/10/2012 17:15

I don't know what's going on with Apocalypse and how much the audience are being played along with/instead of the guy involved, but I've been to a few of Derren Brown's live shows and I want to reiterate that when audience members are required to participate they are nearly always chosen by either frisbees being thrown into the stalls or cuddly toys/big rubber balls being thrown and then thrown again amongst the audience several times - it's impossible to pick specific people that way.

And back during his "Trick of the Mind" days one of the street-magic sort of tricks he did was telling people to the penny how much money they had in their wallets. I came across him filming that in Cardiff and watched for a while as he did it with a dozen or so people, including me, and I certainly didn't tell him or anyone on the production team in advance how much money I had on me - I don't know how he did it. He's not psychic but he is bloody clever.

UltraBOF · 27/10/2012 17:18

Karl Greenwood could be a stage name though, to differentiate him from his brother. It's common enough. And he could still be Steve Brosnan on some lists.

HeinousHecate · 27/10/2012 17:23

perhaps his accomplice pickpocketed you, counted your money and replaced your purse Grin

There is always an explanation. Grin

Which is more likely - that he has the power to see into people's purses and magically know how much is in there - or he managed to get someone into the purses to check?

and you only need a few people in the audience in order to ensure the ball ends up where you want it.

you 'randomly' throw it to person 1. They have been practicing for weeks to 'randomly' throw it to person 2. They have been practising for weeks to 'randomly' throw it to person 3. Person 3 goes up on stage.

you can even let a couple of members of the audience have a go. you just keep it chucking around until it hits one of your people and they're on track again to 'randomly' throw it at the person who will come on stage.

Tricks rely on people thinking that it is far too ridiculous to go to so much trouble, or that something can't possibly be organised. Grin

HeinousHecate · 27/10/2012 17:25

Basketball players who can get a ball into a hoop on the other side of a room when the hoop is not much bigger than a ball.

People can throw with great accuracy...

UltraBOF · 27/10/2012 17:32

Hmm, Karl Greenwood doesn't appear to be Barry Brosnan's brother though. Now I'm getting confused Confused.

Is he definitely the same guy?

Did Steve Brosnan even exist?
