I have no belief in derren browns psychic ability. his usual hypnosis shows are blatantly all set up with actors/actresses. I have had many an argument about this in the past with dh. His current 'apocalypse' show- if it were real- would be a Jeremy beadle gone (far) too far. However, this apocalypse show is mildly entertaining. At least he is admiting that there are actors involved- though clearly guy who is supposed to be hypnotised is an actor too. (Dh thinks otherwise)

Emmie not sure what you mean by believing what he does is real.
I don't think Steve was an actor paid to pretend his way through the show. I think Derren is a showman and an intellectual who would relish the challenge of actually making someone think the world had ended. Him hiring an actor just doesn't ring true.

It's like if he had done a TV programme where he made an elephant disappear. A huge elaborate trick done with a flourish. But people claimed that instead of actually making the elephant appear to disappear, he had simply paused the camera, shifted the elephant out of the way, then turned the camera back on. While it is possible, for a major magician it just doesn't seem likely. And Derren seems to have been as pissed off by the accusations as you might expect from someone who has been accused of cheating in this way.

Haven't read this all through. But just wondering. OP, have you ever seen anyone you know be hypnotised? If you haven't, then believe me it is really freaky, and a good hypnotist can make someone fall to sleep 'just like that'.

I didn't go to a hypnotist show...a hypnotist visited the Ranger/Venture unit I belonged to (This was 30 years ago when I was 18!!) It was all very casual.

The things he did, with people I knew, have stayed with me to this day! It was absolutely jaw-dropping, and I can easily believe what the power of suggestion/hypnosis can do to the right subject.

Ah, but poopy is code for something and you will fall instantly asleep at the moment that whatever else has been programmed into that message and someone utters the word "poopy".

Lol @ repeated poopy posts.

Well, I watched part 2 this evening and feel massively let-down. I have enjoyed so much of DB's stuff in the past but this just made me cringe. His ego seems to have inflated slightly too much...his 'directions' from the control room and silly hat blatantly inspired by the spooky God/producer bloke in the Truman show.

Steve would have needed to be miked up. How did he not realise he was wearing a battery pack?

There was no sign of an earpiece on the Ian. Darren was not 'directing' those actors live.

I don't believe it's possible to make someone fall asleep via a phone call, nor indeed by touching their face.

Steve was supposed to be proving himself but had to be led and directed by the actors throughout the whole thing.

The video message to Steve's family was cringeworthy and didn't strike me as remotely genuine.

The speech in the helicopter was totally contrived.

DB picked someone who he knew was interested in acting, was a DB fan and looking for a change in direction in life. He knew Steve would twig as soon as odd things started to happen and indeed he did and just played along, as you would if you loved DB and this was your one chance to get on telly.

Very disappointing for me, but I'll watch the new one next week nonetheless and hope for something more impressive.
