I have no belief in derren browns psychic ability. his usual hypnosis shows are blatantly all set up with actors/actresses. I have had many an argument about this in the past with dh. His current 'apocalypse' show- if it were real- would be a Jeremy beadle gone (far) too far. However, this apocalypse show is mildly entertaining. At least he is admiting that there are actors involved- though clearly guy who is supposed to be hypnotised is an actor too. (Dh thinks otherwise)

Zugos are real and horrible. I had a chicken and pesto one. Yuk!!

Love Derren Brown though Grin

Meglet · 27/10/2012 17:40

When he throws the ball into the audience it bounces between loads of people before it gets stopped. And I'm sure he wasn't choosing them to stop it (possibly had his back turned, I can't remember), as that would have made it obvious he was in control. Although he could have had an ear-piece telling him when it was on the right person.

I know he's not psychic or magic, but I still can't figure out his tricks.

HeinousHecate · 27/10/2012 17:41

Dunno. Looks like it to me. There's more info on Greenwood being the microwave guy. They look like the same person to me.

I don't care either way really. It's just marginally more interesting than being forced to say Halloween trickster for the millionth time today.

Autistic echolalic son

Halloween trickster

A million and one

HeinousHecate · 27/10/2012 17:43

Tricks rely on you believing that it's totally impossible for it to ever be a trick Grin

SucksToBeScaryMe · 27/10/2012 18:02

I was unsure until i saw UltraBOFS link. Then the one with Steve on the microwave advert. My mum had said to me last night "Not everything on Mumsnet is correct, you take it as gospel!"

Showed her the links and she was Shock

How can anyone doubt Mumsnet??????????

TheHamish · 27/10/2012 18:14

I think Karl Greenwood and Steve Brosnan are both real people. They are not the same person. They just look very alike. Steve Brosnan definitely exists. Look up Barry Brosnan's Twitter account. Steve Brosnan has done little bits of acting but his oven cleaning business has its own Facebook page.

PrincessSymbian · 27/10/2012 18:19

And how easy would it be to set up a facebook page for an oven cleaning service? Ten minutes of work?
What area is he based in, can anyone find an entry for his ovencleaning service in yellow pages?

TheHamish · 27/10/2012 18:21

The oven cleaning page has links on it from March this year. I don't want to post a link to it as it has phone numbers etc, but anyone with any savvy could find it.

UltraBOF · 27/10/2012 18:21

God, this is turning us all into stalkers Grin

UltraBOF · 27/10/2012 18:23

So, we have a charity marathon-runner with his own oven-cleaning business, who has an equity card...

Not quite the layabout he's portrayed as then, at least.

TheHamish · 27/10/2012 18:24

It has a website too.

See, I believed it was all a big conspiracy but I'm veering back the other way now!

TheHamish · 27/10/2012 18:27

I also think they painted quite a nasty portrait of him as a lazy, good for nothing, selfish pig. Who's going to go to an audition and say that about themselves, then have their family say that too? How could DB know that?

They sounded like they didn't like him very much...!

noblegiraffe · 27/10/2012 18:28

So now derren practises throwing frisbees with pinpoint accuracy every single time to the dozens of people he uses in his tricks in the hundreds of different theatres he does his shows in? And he never can miss otherwise a real person would end up on stage and his trick wouldn't work?

And it's the people who think that the selection really is random and that it's normal people and not stooges who get up on stage who are supposed to be the credulous ones. Hmm

JaponicaTroggs · 27/10/2012 18:39

I know for a fact that the object thrown into the audience is not a set up as i caught it myself when went to see one of his shows. Unfortunately Derren had asked if a woman caught it (a cuddly monkey!) to pass it to the nearest man which was my DH.
It was the one where Derren went into a trance then lay on a pile of broken glass. DH had to examine the glass then stand on him, one foot on the side of his face. It's now his claim to fame story! Grin

VivaLeBeaver · 27/10/2012 18:41

Surely someone here lives near Chalfont St Eters where the oven cleaning business is based? Someone can get him round to clean their oven and interrogate him. Come on, mn needs you!

cornybeefhash · 27/10/2012 18:43

that's true Hamish
also the mother saying that she wasn't sure he loved her or something...I thought that was a bit weird

Or owns a copy of yellow pages for that area! As a small first step.

happybubblebrain · 27/10/2012 19:25

I love Derren Brown.

Steve is very obviously an actor. There must be some sort of double bluff going on otherwise the whole show is very lame.

Either that or Derren Brown is using the show as a vehicle to brainwash everyone in the UK and take over the world. I'm still open to the idea that he is an evil genuius.

CuriosityKilledTheCrap · 27/10/2012 19:34

Yeah - he's probably do a better job than that David dickhead we currently have trying to brainwash us all.

TinyDiamond · 27/10/2012 19:46

I just enjoyed the 28 days later and children of men references. Meh

PrincessSymbian · 27/10/2012 19:47

I now have a beautiful image of Derren sitting there stroking his goatee, while smugly smiling (and stroking a White fluffy cat with the other hand) saying "the plan, it is working, they will soon all be mine"
Think I'll just go and have a little lie down. I'm feeling ever so slightly swoony.

cornybeefhash · 27/10/2012 19:54

Children of men - what a great film. Want to watch it again now.

KelperRose · 27/10/2012 20:03

I've always liked and enjoyed Derren Brown and he is very clever so I don't think they would screw up and use a 'stooge/actor' who all of a sudden right after the programme airs the 'general public' rumble him for being a fraud

I think, and this is on;y my opinion that there might be clues and stuff left on the websites everyone are linking too?

This may be an exercise in , you were sceptical a man believed the world was was ending happened but you as a viewer 'are googling like mad and falling hook line and sinker for all the false information we have planted

cornybeefhash · 27/10/2012 20:10

yes clues on the websites...bet that's it!
