AIBU (or juat old fashioned) to think it strange that parents allow this?

Had dinner in a nice hotel and a couple with two sons sat near us. Through most of the evening, dinner and all, one of the boys had those clunky beats by dr dre headphones glued to his ears. He was old enough to be able to concentrate at a nice dinner for a little while.

AIBU to think it's a shame that people seem to ignore the world and what's going on around them - and to also find it rude? I'm under 21, not sure if I'm being overly old fashioned...

Well, however resentful they were about it, one poster admitted s/he learnt something. So possibly if s/he encountered an child with SN and headphones, s/he won't give the parents that lovely judgmental face.

Again, sorry for any offence my OP might have caused.

Cinnamounnut - I don't think there was anything really wrong with your OP. It was a little judgey - but we all have our judgey moments! Someone pointed out the child could have SN & headphones can help - and if you have taken that on board and would consider that as a possibility next time and feel a little less judgey then that's good isn't it?!

imho i was not offended at all by the op i read it and thought.... ohhhh i bet the op didnt know that lots of kids with asd use headphones in public to block out noise.

apsolutly not bloody op how dare they Grin

Headphones ok if children have SN; IMO not if children don't have SN.

I never went to nice hotels to eat dinner as a child, but if i was perceived to have misbehaved at home during dinner it would have been a slap (or a threatened slap) for me if i ''answered back'' or ''played up'' etc etc...

I remember getting a Walkman aged 12 & it was great. :) But never allowed except in the car or in private.

(Kids don't know they're born these days, sigh....)

The offensive thing about this thread has not been the OP not knowing something yet- we all learn things everyday. I could do a boring list of mine, but then we'd all start, and then MNHQ's server would break! Grin

It's been people whinging about special needs being even mooted as a possibility.

jesus what a utter waste of a topic that has turned into a farse

how about "saw a young person that did not have sn wearing headphones while having a family meal in a restaurant"

just say the op knew the child was not sn,would he wearing them be wrong

and discuss, utter madness here sometimes Wink: Wink
