spitting feathers over an article i read yesterday in the newspaper about this subject. it's common knowledge that the average size is 16 and over in this country so how would that make a lot of women feel? does it really matter what your size? also why the emphasis on women why not men? many of them carry weight, noone seems to say anything about it. we all come in various shapes, sizes and colours and everyone is unique and beautiful in their own way be it inside or out. media should stop giving us these so called ideals and let us decide for ourselves how we wish to look.

Ooo
Imagine if Clinque did fat ones

I have big fat lashes....will other people judge them?

ObiWan · 25/10/2012 11:13

twofalls, if you want total honesty, I'd say you look a little more than chubby in that particular photo.

Saying that, I've worked through this thread becoming more acutely aware of my excess weight. My hips are rather more swaddled than I'd like them to be Grin.

And yes, that's at a size 10. If I were to do the things I ought to do, I'd probably be a size 8, and a lot more comfortable. I just eat too much of everything. Humph.

somerset, sorry, o.p here have just signed back in, after getting kids to school and the house tidied a bit, am now having coffee [ my day off], am stunned at the response, it is so interesting to get people's take on this thorny subject, i do bank nursing at various places and i see a lot of older folk with various health conditions [made worse by excess weight] which can hinder them having a more active life, we need to start doing something about the situation fast, i was over weight before i had kids but it fell of with a lot of hard work because i didn't want to drop dead at 40 and miss them growing up. i have kept the weight off and encourage other people who have weight problems to be honest with themselves and take the first step today to do something about, first step is the hardest but you can do it if it is done sensibley and with support.

Twofalls. Id say you look like me, a little chubby around the middle, could just be the dress though and Im on my phone so can't see the pic well.

Very pretty face you have!

MaureenCognito · 25/10/2012 11:18

there si a fat mascara afaik
and a fat boy sofa thing

TheBuskersDog · 25/10/2012 11:18

Can I ask when chubby becomes fat, to me it's just a euphemism for fat but not obese.

BeyondLimitsOfTheLivingDead · 25/10/2012 11:18

Dammit, I cant upload my thin size 14 bones-sticking-out picture on my ipad. All my profile pictures are post baby and most definitely overweight Grin

digerd · 25/10/2012 11:18

fakebook

I wasn't happy when younger in a size 8-10 as I had no curves . An aunt said to me once, " don't worry, some men like the little boy look" I was not consoled !!

geegee888 · 25/10/2012 11:18

To be fair, I think a lot of people are uncomfortable about discussing their weight. Or even at others discussing their weight. I know when I carried a few extra kgs, I was more uncomfortable talking about weight, and even exercise and training. Because I felt guilty in myself, and knew I was letting things slide. I ignored it for a while.

whois · 25/10/2012 11:19

AuntLucyInPeru Grin

I don't get the "be happy whatever your size" cos actually, it isn't good for you to have rolls of fat. And it is much easier to stop getting fat than it is to loose stones and stones later on. Your normal size clothes feeing too tight? Cut down in the fatty food, reduce portion size, do more exercise. Don't just buy bigger clothes!!

Ephiny · 25/10/2012 11:21

twofalls since you asked (and I know how difficult it is to get honest opinions), I think you look quite heavy for your height. As far as I can tell from one photo.

You are very pretty though, and it looks like you have a nice hourglass shape :)

TheBuskersDog · 25/10/2012 11:21

We have a Fatboy beanbag,it's enormous, perhaps if it didn't lie around on the floor all day it would only be chubby.

OrangeKat · 25/10/2012 11:23

5'8" here. I went up to a size 16 on my last steroid run and I looked fucking dreadful.
I'm currently a size 12/14 on the current steroid bout and I'm fighting furiously to keep it off. With the massive lifestyle changes I have to make to hopefully stay in remission and not have to take the damn steroids again I will probably drop to a proper 12.
And then I will be happy. (But sober, without gluten or dairy. Or fun. Ho hum.)

PerryCombover · 25/10/2012 11:23

twofalls

you look normal unless you are about to do a Victoria Secret catalogue or catwalk show

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 25/10/2012 11:26

But the problem is that normal in this country is now overweight. And overweight is not healthy.

RightsaidFreud · 25/10/2012 11:27

ItsAllGoingToBeFine BINGO. Normal is now overweight. and that's just wrong.

Ephiny · 25/10/2012 11:27

Indeed, twofalls absolutely does look normal, but that wasn't the question.

DigestivesWithCheese · 25/10/2012 11:29

two falls - I wouldn't describe you as 'chubby' at all in that photo - I would say you look very much in proportion and you are wearing a dress that fits nicely and really suits your shape. I might say that you were 'curvy' but when I say curvy I always mean it as a compliment, ie: hips & boobs that are balanced.

digerd · 25/10/2012 11:29

I think you have a lovely face and gorgeous teeth, a picture of beauty and health. But your dress, not sure about.

PerryCombover · 25/10/2012 11:30

oh shut up

you stupid bloody women

find somewhere else to crow and caw

perfectly nice, normal, women judged by some standard that you live by.
made to feel worse or less than good enough because of what they weigh

it is nonsense

ZZZenAgain · 25/10/2012 11:30

is size 16 really the average size for women in the UK though?

AWimbaWay · 25/10/2012 11:30

autumn I have never dieted in my life, I eat a very well rounded diet and yes that includes chocolate and cake along with the 'salad leaves' you mentioned. Why does the fact I am naturally a size 8 offend you so much ? Confused

ZZZenAgain · 25/10/2012 11:31

wonder what the average size is in other European countries

RawShark · 25/10/2012 11:31

I am 5.11 and 12/14 - so not chubby as my colleagueskeep pointing out (because they are all on diets and I eat a lot and I think it annoys them). Although I am overwieght if you use that ridiculous 30 inch waist thing there was a fuss about a couple of years ago.

But.....I eat a lot of crap (I eat healthy basically i.e. full fat stuff but in small portions fruit veg etc, but top it up with chocolate)

And I don;t get any exercise at the moment........so I'm probably not that healthy. I have friends who are overweight but do lots of exercise and seem to eat OK.

So my point is erm, fumbles around for original point of ramble, ah yes - health is about more than weight, surely?

mrsfuzzy · 25/10/2012 11:32

geegee you sound just like i used to be, ignoring it etc, but like me you,ve sorted it out and it feels great doesn't it, one think that wind me up is the number of people who constantly make excuses for their weight though, people like orangekat have a medical reason ,[ hope you feel better soon] but others, well , does a majority of the poulation really have under active thyroids, fat genes and medicial conditions. fast food and take aways must be having a field day, they seem to pop up everywhere. our local post office was replaced by a kebab shop, speaks volumes really.
