spitting feathers over an article i read yesterday in the newspaper about this subject. it's common knowledge that the average size is 16 and over in this country so how would that make a lot of women feel? does it really matter what your size? also why the emphasis on women why not men? many of them carry weight, noone seems to say anything about it. we all come in various shapes, sizes and colours and everyone is unique and beautiful in their own way be it inside or out. media should stop giving us these so called ideals and let us decide for ourselves how we wish to look.

My mum is a good five inches shorter than me, and has been obese in a 12-14.
But when she is thin, she will physically fit into a 8-10, that I never have any chance of Grin

WorraLiberty · 25/10/2012 11:02

Fut how did I guess you'd pop up to name check me and talk nonsense?

I must be psychic

The last thread we were on together discussing this subject made you come across in exactly the same way Autumn is coming across on this one.

And it's not particularly good....

MaureenCognito · 25/10/2012 11:02

to the tune of Ruby by the Kaiser chiefs

fatty fatty fatty faaaatteeee

woah oha oah aoha oah aoooooooo

TheBuskersDog · 25/10/2012 11:03

*those of you who feel fat over a size 10, are you for fucking real?
I bet you are the sort of women who pick over salad leaves at lunch, count calories out loud and talk about your diet to everyone all day long boring us all to death *

Actually I'm in the other group of slim people that some other women seem to hate even more, I can eat huge dinners, cakes, chocolate etc. without getting fat. However since passing 40 sometimes when I've really been putting it away without being very active I put on a few pounds, and then tend to feel a bit bleugh (cos of the crap I've been eating) so cut out the chocolate for a week or two and go back to normal.

PedanticPanda · 25/10/2012 11:03

My bmi is 28.8 indicating that I'm overweight. I've usually got a very slim frame so yes a size 12 is chubby for me.

fuckadoodlepoopoo · 25/10/2012 11:04

I reserve the right to judge silly shallow people

Its not your right to judge anyone, just as i wouldn't judge you for your size, whatever that may be. Its your business, i don't care. So why do you judge others?

Considering there is an obesity problem in this country i think its sensible for people to pay attention to their size and what feels right for them. We could all just bury our heads in the sand if you like and carry on costing the nhs billions a year?

GColdtimer · 25/10/2012 11:04

OK, I am really interested (and won't be offended). There is a picture on my profile at the moment. I am in a size 10 dress but sometimes wear a 12. I am 5t nothing.

Do I look chubby? I think I do but it would be a good gauge to see what other reactions are on this thread.

Fakebook · 25/10/2012 11:04

I'm 5ft4 and have ballooned to a size 14-16 after having my last baby. I feel fat and shit. So YABU and yanbu. Being average size 16 doesn't mean you should feel good about yourself. When I was size 10-12 I felt healthy, even with all my curves.

JudeFawley · 25/10/2012 11:05

It's subjective - I'm 5'7 and would be a porky size 14, someone else might carry it off.

There's so much more to it than over a certain size = fat.

geegee888 · 25/10/2012 11:06

I am fully aware of the existence of the process of ageing Cotedazur.

Although at "nearly 40" I do hope that I, and others like me, have a few good years left in us yet.

Are you aware of the tendency in some members of the caring professions to look for problems which do not exist? Perhaps google Munchausens...

MaureenCognito · 25/10/2012 11:07

fat girl in the ring, tra la la la la

GColdtimer · 25/10/2012 11:07

you talking to me maureen?

I asked if you thought I was chubby. Not fat Grin

fuckadoodlepoopoo · 25/10/2012 11:08

health conscious? Anyone would think you were addressing very obese people, not women who are a bloody size 12! Size 12! In no world, in no place, on no body, except that of someone under five foot perhaps, would a size 12 be fat! Unless you have body dysmorphia

So do you consider it overweight (Im talking chubby not fat which it the word you keep using to replace what others have said!) to have thighs that chafe together? I do. Im 5.2, a size 10 and my thighs chafe. For me that is too chubby. Judge me all you like!

CoteDAzur · 25/10/2012 11:08

"I'm 5'7 and would be a porky size 14, someone else might carry it off"

Sure. Someone over 6'.

MaureenCognito · 25/10/2012 11:08

you are all getting cross by a stranger on the interweb who has never even seen you suggesting you might be fat

yes

fatty ;)

SomersetONeil · 25/10/2012 11:09

No body dismorphia here - just entirely realistic and honest and not in denial about my own body and its shape.

To be fair, I am smokin' when clothed Wink - tally, slim, leggy - what's not to be happy about? But naked? Seriously, those callipers would be going mad - lots of inches to be pinched.

I'm very happy with my body and my weight - especially aged 38 and post-DC. I'm also willing and able to comment on its imperfections, too, without being in any way down on myself. Doesn't mean I go round commenting, or even noticing, other peoples.

PerryCombover · 25/10/2012 11:10

Dear Maureen

I have a chubby stick from Clinique...are it's feelings hurt?

WorraLiberty · 25/10/2012 11:10

Actually this thread has made me hungry and late!

I have a hankering for black pudding for some odd reason, so I'm off to town to meet my DS for a fry-up at the cafe Grin

Autumn for 'fry-up' you may read "picking over salad leaves, counting calories out loud and talking about my diet to everyone all day long and boring everyone to death".

But I'll be too busy eyeing up the dessert menu to care! Grin

Seeya!

MaureenCognito · 25/10/2012 11:11

FATSTICK

thats you pezzer

digerd · 25/10/2012 11:11

geegee
" Sadly, I never look skinny" - why on earth would you want to? Skinny looks awful , weak and unhealthy.

CoteDAzur · 25/10/2012 11:11

geegee - All I did was point out that your hubby will age, as will you and everyone else - his fit body is not forever, so you should start appreciating him on other levels with that in mind. Munchausen Syndrome is irrelevant to all of this.

I'm beginning to think that you just don't understand English well enough so will leave it at that.

ZZZenAgain · 25/10/2012 11:12

it is making me hungry too, have to go and find out how to roast pumpkin seeds, dd has sooped them out of a pumpkin and they are lying in the fridge whilst I forget about them.

sparkle12mar08 · 25/10/2012 11:12

I'll rise to that twofalls I'd say without a side view it's difficult to decide on the dress picture, but the style and tights aren't flattering and makes you look a bit thick set across the calves and waist area, but I'm not a fashionista so take that with a pinch of (low sodium)salt! On the wedding picture I'd say your face looks full but not fat - you have rounded cheeks and some flesh behind you chin along your jaw. But we can also see the dip in your shoulder line so there's not a real amount of excess there.

Does all that amount to 'chubby'? I don't know.

fuckadoodlepoopoo · 25/10/2012 11:12

CreamOfTomatoSoup When I was a size 12, back in the day, my friend said I looked so thin I looked like a baby bird. It's not chubby.

. . . For you!
