Need the opinions of many women and Mothers here...
The wife has suddenly stated that she is "offended" by our three kids (and me) saying "oh God" or "God in heaven" or "for God's sake" etc as she has recently become a bit God Squad and rediscovered her Christianity.

Caused a huge row over the kitchen table three nights ago and it rumbles on with wife being pretty committed to the idea that no one should be allowed to say "Oh God" or "for God's sake" etc.,

My view is that this is unreasonable (and a bit silly) and even if you take it seriously in terms of not offending peoples' religious ideas - still a bit silly.

Am I wrong?

It's been rumbling on for three days and nights now and I need something...

All and any cast iron responses to the religious bullying very much appreciated.

You do like twisting my words don't you? Maybe I should have said one PERSON'S opinion. There , is that better? I didn't discredit it because she's a woman. I discredited it because its one persons opinion.

Portofino · 14/10/2012 22:04

WHY do you keep going on about men? I mean why?

GhostShip · 14/10/2012 22:06

Portfino - right well if I know jack shit then let's end it there then. You've just been god damn rude about my age for absolutely no reason. You have no idea of the life I've led and what I know.

Portofino · 14/10/2012 22:07

And no - it is a book based on lots of people's views and lots of statistics. It is not a work of fiction, or one where one PERSON gives her view of the world. And how can you discredit it, if you haven't read it or have any clue as to its contents.

ClippedPhoenix · 14/10/2012 22:08

Ghost at the end of the day i wouldn't really dream of sticking up for anyone else but myself and of course womens rights, I'm sure that men are quite able to do that for themselves. I have to wonder why you seem to feel that you have to do that and take it to such an extreem? Do you know a man in real life that is being victimised by a woman? If so, then I'm sure portofino et al would be far more sympathetic.

GhostShip · 14/10/2012 22:08

Since we're debating sexism, and the two parties involved are men and women, of course I'm going to talk about men.

Seriously to made a derogatory comment to me because of my age, when I'm seriously findin it hard to believe you're much older. It's like debating with a child.

Goodnight, you've already said I know jack shit so what's the point in carrying this on

GhostShip · 14/10/2012 22:10

And yes I do know someone victimised by women. But that's neither here nor there. No-one should be victimised full stop, man or woman.

Redbindy · 14/10/2012 22:11

For gods sake, let's get back on topic.

Portofino · 14/10/2012 22:12

Well if you are a 20 something MAN, well then I can understand your pov. I still do not feel sorry for men in general due to a couple of sexist ads though.

Latara · 14/10/2012 22:13

Where's OP right now - i bet he's in the pub drinking Stella while ''the wife'' is at Church... & boasting to his mates ''I started a real fight there on MN & it was sooo easy hahaha...''

I really would not be surprised if he's having a good laugh at the direction of this thread right now!

GhostShip · 14/10/2012 22:13

Look, I'm sorry that you're so against me saying I don't want men to be made victims either. To be honest I think this is rather telling.

Latara · 14/10/2012 22:15

Damn i wish i could have a nice beer or a Wine right now!

Portofino · 14/10/2012 22:16

Telling of what, Ghostships?

GhostShip · 14/10/2012 22:18

Of your character.

You seem so angry that I'm against men being abused to. I'm not sure why.

GhostShip · 14/10/2012 22:18

Too*

Latara · 14/10/2012 22:18

No-one should be victims of anything.

(Unless they are total wankers who make others' lives a misery - i don't care if someone picks on them.)

Meanwhile i'm making Brew & toast yum with organic butter, can't beat it, i suggest a couple of you do the same.. :)

ClippedPhoenix · 14/10/2012 22:20

Oh do we have to get back on topic whist he's down the pub?

To go back to topic if she's spouting god then I dont blame him Grin but if he's a sexist person that has to call her wifey or some such thing then I hope she sends him right to hell and damnation and he chokes on his pint Grin

GhostShip · 14/10/2012 22:20

I'm sat here cradling a bottle of Olbus Oil, a cup of tea would be a good idea latara :)

Portofino · 14/10/2012 22:23

Because men in general are not abused, Ghost. Some are. But women are 100 times over. So why are you worrying about the men?

GhostShip · 14/10/2012 22:25

I have 2 brothers, why wouldn't I ALSO worry about men?

I care about men and women. I don't have to chose a side. You seem to think I do.

Portofino · 14/10/2012 22:27

If you have a specific example of a man being abused, then state it, start a thread about it. It happens. I know it does. But many, many more women are subject to sexist, misogynist, abusive behaviour.

GhostShip · 14/10/2012 22:30

Erm... No.

I'd rather not. I wasn't aware I had to make a separate topic JUST because I pointed out to a poster that men are abused.

Yano what, I'm glad I'm like I am. I'm glad I don't want ANYONE to be abused. And I'm glad I'm not like you, someone who thinks I must only support the majority.

Latara · 14/10/2012 22:33

Olbas Oil is fine, but i refer you to the 'garlic' thread also for cold cures.

The Scottish 'tea' cold cure: Hot water, lemon juice, honey & whisky. :)

Actually re: pubs - has anyone noticed that it's still not seen as ok for women to be unaccompanied in certain pubs?? I like to challenge stereotypes & sat in one of those old fashioned 'men's' pubs with a glass of Appletiser as i waited for my bus on Friday.
I did feel self-conscious though.

Portofino · 14/10/2012 22:34

Is your argument then, that you are worried about your brothers being adverly affected by one advert where a man was portrayed as a footstool? You keep on about sexism against men. And apart from a couple of adverts you have brought no evidence.

Portofino · 14/10/2012 22:38

I would fully support any man here who was being abused.
