I don't drink at all. I agree with the findings of www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-19870190 this study. I'm guessing though that many mumsnetters will dislike hearing the truth?

As a nation we drink too much - it's as simple and horrible as that.

What drivel you talk, your one woman mission to tell people some non ground breaking info. Admit that you had a hankering to do some lecturing and this came to hand. What will you teach us tomorrow? Look both ways before crossing the road? Don't stick your fingers in a plug socket?

I for one am on tenter hooks.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 08/10/2012 19:46

We have one of these patronising "I don't drink and I'm sooooo much better than you" threads periodically. Anyone who dares disagree is apparently an alcoholic in denial Hmm .
Yes OP you are so much better than me
Happy now?

HoneyDragon · 08/10/2012 19:47

I am confused is all wine bad? I only drink 0.00% if I'm going to damage my children because they see me drinking it should I just switch to 12% or just straight meths?

HoneyDragon · 08/10/2012 19:49

It's true dat, HobNobs.

I rarely admit my non drinking status as I dont want to be labelled a sanctimonious cuntweasel, by association.

catgirl1976 · 08/10/2012 19:49

Anything under 13% isn't worth opening IMO Honey

On a lighter note I'm trying that Stella Cidre for the first time right now and its bloody lush Grin

OP its the first drink I've had for 2 weeks is that ok with you?

sugariceANDSCARY · 08/10/2012 19:57

I am on my third small glass.

Still sober Shock and have managed to cook a roast chicken dinner with home made yorkies, bread sauce plus pudding.

Boys have done their homework, I'm not boss eyed and am currently planning tomorrows meal.

Am I a Lush? Grin

BumpingFuglies · 08/10/2012 19:58

Having read the whole thread since my last post, you're still smug OP. Can't really see what you're trying to achieve here. We are generally a well informed middle class lot here. Your OP was designed to get a debate going - top marks for that. Shame you had to imply that MN is somehow full of lushes.

Have a

squoosh · 08/10/2012 20:00

Oh I like that Stella Cidre too. The fact it's called Cidre as opposed to cider is quite pleasing.

catgirl1976 · 08/10/2012 20:06

I'm making a Coq au Vin with nearly a full bottle in it

Middle class and boozy. Do I get to tick a box?

Inneedofbrandy · 08/10/2012 20:08

Maybe MN needs its own branch of AA Wink

Mumsnet is wonderfully supportive place if you have alcohol issues. Thankfully the op hasn't found them.

what with me getting on a bit I am now looking for 11% wine that isn't worth drinking is it Blush

EnglishGirlApproximately · 08/10/2012 20:26

catgirl with the Stella? Yum.
If its Cidre does that make me middle class? No common cider here :)

rubberglove · 08/10/2012 20:28

I just don't think middle class drinking habits are really the most damaging thing to children in our society OP. Maybe there is something in that research yes, but I am more concerned about poverty, the effects of the recession on the most vulnerable children. Sex abuse, emotional abuse, neglect.

Of course these can be related to alcohol and happen in middle class homes but I suspect that is a drop in a much wider ocean of problems.

If you really want to make a difference to a child's life, volunteer for the Children's Panel, join a scheme whereby you can take a deprived child out for the day, help the NSPCC.

If I feed it to DS is that bad? Always thought the alcohol cooked off but on a thread the other night someone said only about 95% did. So may re-think thhat for him
