to think leggings on their own is ridiculous

as they are basically a form of tights worn under a skirt or long top. Not worn as trousers like I see so much of, particularly teens or young students. My daughter has taken to this recently but its her choice, I have bigger battles to pick.

I suppose the false jeans kind make a BIT of sense but I still don't get it.

The ones that look like leotards are hilarious! I am forever hoping they don't bend over because the seams don't look strong enough Grin

trixymalixy · 22/02/2014 09:21

I was walking behind someone whose leggings were so thin I could practically read the label on her thong. Not a good look.

ThePinkOcelot · 22/02/2014 09:22

I followed a really large girl into the drs the other day and I mean really large. She was wearing leggings and a short jacket. Not a pretty sight.I can tell you.

However, I think a nice slim person can get away with it.

WitchWay · 22/02/2014 09:42

Agree a slim person can get away with it but leggings with a short top looks to me as if they have forgotten to put on a skirt. I like them with mid-thigh length tunics / jumpers

theimposter · 23/02/2014 11:15

DSD wears two pairs over each other to stop see through issues!

fedupandfifty · 23/02/2014 14:03

I love leggings. I always wear them, be they jeans-like or otherwise. Never nude, though! I think if you adhere to the general rule of loose/ unstructured/ long top for anything other than working out you'll be fine.

No holes, visible knickers/ sanitary wear though!

VoyageDeVerity · 23/02/2014 14:17

The young girls I see here wearing the leggings and crop top look are very beautiful and look amazing actually. I like the look it's new and fresh and really comfortable. I think the dress over leggin look is completely passe but each to their own I suppose.

I think this thread is really horrible - posters feeling sick from looking at other women in clothes they don't like....that is so extreme. You need to check yourselves.

Imnotmadeofeyes · 23/02/2014 14:46

I like leggings, what I don't like is a face full of someone else's underwear be it through cheap leggings or belts buckled round thighs.

I don't care it's something probably socially conditioned in me, I find it uncomfortable and frankly pervy, there's something 'flashery' about it imho.

Those who don't mind flashing their keks in public won't give a shit about being judged and those who do probably appreciate the heads up.... So I don't really see the problem with threads like this tbh.

If you fall into the catagory of knowing exactly what you're displaying but your still offended, may I kindly suggest that you stop forcing yourself to wear clothes that send a message out to society that you don't particularly like.

Weathergames · 23/02/2014 14:51

Surely they don't realise others can clearly see their underwear?

I have always thought it's a bit of the case of "Emporers New Clothes"?

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 23/02/2014 15:13

I just get extra stretchy leggings and pull them right up over my boobs Grin (much easier these days since my nipples are round about my where my waist would be if I had one!
I do need to put shoes on though or my feet get cold...

kelper · 23/02/2014 15:14

Lol this thread made me put a black jersey skirt on over my leggings this morning before I went to tesco, I had been wearing them with a big plaid shirt and long sleeved top ;)

takingthathometomomma · 23/02/2014 15:17

Leggings and skirts/dresses are as bad as leggings with short tops IMO. It just looks wrong! Leggings with long tops and jumpers is what's "right"! (Knee length is too long...)

forbreakfast · 23/02/2014 15:17

If wearing with crop, or short, tops they look like they're going to dance class (in the 80s).

Otherwise, don't care. Long tops, tunics and all other combinations I wouldn't bat an eyelid at.

harriet247 · 23/02/2014 15:18

Always leggings on their own here!i wear them everyday, have a massive assortment, jeggings, patterned etc, i do think you have to have a good arse shape, not necessarily a size 8 ( i am) ive seen girls who are around a 14 looking so gorgeous showing off toned bums in them too

forbreakfast · 23/02/2014 15:20

In fact DC does wear the short top/leggings combo for one of her dance classes now. Not outside of dance class, however.

Fakebook · 23/02/2014 15:21

Yanbu. Sometimes when we're walking behind someone dressed like this dd laughs as each bum cheek goes up and down. Not a good look!

girliefriend · 23/02/2014 15:27

YANBU when I drive to work I drive past the local 6th form and often pull a 'face' at what the girls are wearing, bearing in mind its febuary, the look seems to be black see through leggings, a crop top, thin jacket and canvas shoes. How they don't freeze to death is beyond me!!

I normally turn to my 8yo dd and say very firmly - you will never be allowed out looking like that Grin

Technotropic · 23/02/2014 15:35

Yabu

My daughters and I have had many lols due to this fashion fad. Long may it continue as it definitely brightens up a dull trip to the supermarket.

2tiredtocare · 23/02/2014 15:36

Marks and Spencer's do leggings that arent see through, the Primark one's are awful, i'm guessing people dont realise their bum is showing as no one tells them

specialsubject · 23/02/2014 15:44

looked good on one of the ice skaters at Sochi, but skaters always have wonderful long muscled legs.

real people shouldn't dress like this!

2tiredtocare · 23/02/2014 15:48

Are ice skaters not real then Grin

HoratiaDrelincourt · 23/02/2014 15:52

The glossy magazines show great "short top and leggings" outfits which only work because of the cost and quality of the displayed garments, the natural figure of the model, and the photographer's tricks (lighting, angles, editing, etc).

And they don't translate to Primark copies.

Creamycoolerwithcream · 23/02/2014 16:50

I love my leggings now and when I first wore them 25 years ago. I have never worn a skirt over them, I'd feel all bloated like I have too many clothes on. I'm not super slim but love my bum.

forbreakfast · 23/02/2014 18:01

I don't care how toned, or not, the bum is. I really don't want to see it, thank you.

Hotmad · 23/02/2014 18:14

Wow I never knew leggings could gather such a debate!
