AIBU?

to think leggings on their own is ridiculous

as they are basically a form of tights worn under a skirt or long top. Not worn as trousers like I see so much of, particularly teens or young students. My daughter has taken to this recently but its her choice, I have bigger battles to pick.

I suppose the false jeans kind make a BIT of sense but I still don't get it.

Eh? Leggings are a bit thicker than tights, no? The ones I had in the 90s were. Surely if you can see someone's knickers they are not really leggings?

Can I steal it FellatioNelson? Still very amused by the work clopper. Grin

I do try and wear a long jumper, top or coat over them. They are so comfy though, especially when jeans dig into my muffin top Grin

I like them under stuff, it looks great, but you really do need to cover your arse fully. Even if your arse is nice, you still need to cover it. Would you go out in just tights with no skirt or trousers? No. you wouldn't. Except that, hang on.....that's exactly what you are doing.

Hareem pants don't get me started on them, look like an oversized nappy

I like to wear leggings and role them down, as I have a massive scar across my stomach. Having anything tight against that area is very unpleasant indeed. I wear long tops and stuff that covers my arse. My arse has succumbed to gravity these days, so I'd rather keep it hidden anyway.

Startail is right. In the 80s they were like trousers, much thicker, less stretchy, and there were ski pants too. Remember those?

Report
FellatioNelson · 06/10/2012 07:52

Yes, leggings and ski pants were more or less the same thing, excess ski pants had that little stirrup thing. The reasonably young ans svelte could get away with ski pants and a shortish top but they didn't cling to your front bottom - they were more like trousers.

These ones sold as leggings now are really not much more than footless tights.

I don't mind them, I'm envious of those slim enough to wear them with a short top.

It was rather embarrassing when a 20ish woman walked past the other day wearing pale peachy ones and DD (2.9) shouted 'Mummy! Rooody noodie!' and pointed Blush TBF, I had to do a double take, she did look naked!

Personally, I do think they are really un flattering when worn with a short top- bum and camel toe needs to be covered to look good. I did see a girl who had a very thin pair, a short top and her bum appeared to be eating her leggings- just not very attractive- yet if she had a longer tunic, she would have looked lovely. Yes, people can wear what they want- but why wear something which makes you look bigger/wobblier... a long top is a simple solution.

Leggings are horrible IMO. Useful for the gym or for little kids though.

I was just wondering yesterday why some people would wear beige tight trousers, they show off all lumps and bumps and also look like they've forgotten their trousers. This tight trouser fashion is just not good!
I wear black leggings under long tunics and they look fine, you can get really thick ones from Gok range in Sainsburys but they are boiling!

people where I live actually do wear opaque tights as trousers. I mean 80 denier black tights with a hoody Shock

I saw a woman getting in her car with a t-shirt on and her pink pants showing through woolly grey tights. It still shames me that I didn't stop her.

My leggings aren't like tights. I try to wear long tops but being over 6 ft it's quite a task to find any. People should stop being so ridiculously judgmental.

It's certainly not a look that would work on me.

It's still shorts and tights as the preferred student attire near us, and I must confess to smiling when the shorts don't cover the control panel in the tights

To save money buying his own, my husband wore my leggings for his pilates classes with a tee shirt.

YANBU, I have no clue why people do it and I really don't want to see someone's underwear and arse cheeks (and towel with wings it seems in the linked picture!) when I am out and about and I am no prude...

Surely they can't knowingly go out with their under crackers showing? Although surely they must know as they must notice on other people?

I wouldn't have a problem with leggings and short tops so much if the leggings weren't so thin and see through, these are definitely not meant to be worn as a trouser.

YANBU every morning when i drop the dds at school i am confronted with an array of various cheap leggings showing the the wearers knickers, tis a horrid site.

Even the dds are starting to look a bit Hmm when they see them.

Buy some thick ones or wear a long top.

They always used to be thick enough to look like trousers, which was fine. But for the thin ones which look like tights, and are often see-through, YANBU!

Yesterday I could see through a young slim woman's leggings to the point where I could see she was wearing white knickers with pink and blue hearts. I don't think it takes a fashionista to know she should have.covered her arse.
