AIBU?

to think leggings on their own is ridiculous

as they are basically a form of tights worn under a skirt or long top. Not worn as trousers like I see so much of, particularly teens or young students. My daughter has taken to this recently but its her choice, I have bigger battles to pick.

I suppose the false jeans kind make a BIT of sense but I still don't get it.

Depends if you can carry them off worn like that.

You are allowed to have an opinion about the way someone looks. Yes, leggings worn as trousers look stupid on most people. Especially with Ugg knock-offs.

Shock horror! Woman with chubby thighs wears leggings - it's not exactly the bombing of Aleppo/massive financial fraud perpetrated by the banks, is it?

Very true, and very funny.

I'm ambivalent: I know what people mean about it not looking good, and being presented with a good view of people's exact genital contours and underwear is not always pleasant, but isn't it better for people to just feel free to follow the fashions they want? Chicness is a tyranny.

I admire anyone who just does what they want clothes-wise. I'm so crippled by appearance anxiety it takes me ages to sum up the courage to leave the house most days.

I was walking behind a mum just yesterday and she was wearing leggings and a short top...but the legging were see through, I could see her knickers in detail, every roll of fat and even her cellulite for gods sake. She was a size 16-18. why oh why. She would have had more coverage from tights.

Not the first that I have seen. I think people think leggings are easy and comfy to wear...but not everyone can wear them. I can't.

Leggings are the ugliest item of clothing a woman can wear. They are unflattering and vulgar. Since when has it become the trend for women to out with tights only that is not wearing a skirt or a dress? Let's face it leggings are just thick tights and nothing else. To add insult to injury is when a fat or very fat woman wears them or an old woman. They are completely demeaning and disgusting.

hahaha...I can't believe I come back 2/3 days later and women are still being obnoxious A-holes about what other people choose to wear! this is classic. @forbreakfast, why on earth does looking at an arse offend you? this makes me sad....I don't like to say this but it is true, some people are gifted with more beautiful faces than others, some of these "others" are not that gifted at all! but wait, does this mean that they aren't allowed out in the street!?? especially not wearing a hat or shades! or do people think that only really attractive people should wear hats now as "they just draw my attention to their face, i don't wanna see that while I'm shopping"

last chance. ANYONE CAN WEAR WHAT THE SHAG THEY WANT!! if you really for some bizarre reason can't handle looking then it's you that should maybe stay inside and watch programmes only featuring very good looking people in baggy jeans and long tops that cover their bums and a thick jumper to be as unsexy as can be.

Again. sorry and well done to anyone sticking up for people who want to wear items of clothing they like. rant was not for you!

Leggings are the most uninspired tat to have ever been invented.

None of you are climbers then,

leggings are brilliant to wear under a harness.

The damage is done? Come on now and stop being so melodramatic. There is no damage done from seeing the likes of the woman in that link with her thong and panty liner on show.

At best you feel sorry for her or think wtf? At worst you mock her and take a pic to post online.

I'm sure an unwanted glimpse is easy to 'get over'. I think people look silly in lots of clothes, whatever, I'm not wearing them. Don't give a shit.

Depends on the thickness of the material and quality. Plus how it looks on the individual. YABU

true, but if you see something by accident, you know, involuntarily sadly you can't unsee it.

the damage is done. and what's worse, I feel sorry for the person who makes themselves look ridiculous.
there's an excellent invention called a mirror.
it's been around for centuries.

You know, if you don't want to see something, you do this thing with your neck, called turning, it moves your head so you can look away.

Wow I never knew leggings could gather such a debate!

I don't care how toned, or not, the bum is. I really don't want to see it, thank you.

I love my leggings now and when I first wore them 25 years ago. I have never worn a skirt over them, I'd feel all bloated like I have too many clothes on. I'm not super slim but love my bum.

The glossy magazines show great "short top and leggings" outfits which only work because of the cost and quality of the displayed garments, the natural figure of the model, and the photographer's tricks (lighting, angles, editing, etc).

And they don't translate to Primark copies.

Are ice skaters not real then Grin

looked good on one of the ice skaters at Sochi, but skaters always have wonderful long muscled legs.

real people shouldn't dress like this!

Report
2tiredtocare · 23/02/2014 15:36

Marks and Spencer's do leggings that arent see through, the Primark one's are awful, i'm guessing people dont realise their bum is showing as no one tells them

Yabu

My daughters and I have had many lols due to this fashion fad. Long may it continue as it definitely brightens up a dull trip to the supermarket.

YANBU when I drive to work I drive past the local 6th form and often pull a 'face' at what the girls are wearing, bearing in mind its febuary, the look seems to be black see through leggings, a crop top, thin jacket and canvas shoes. How they don't freeze to death is beyond me!!

I normally turn to my 8yo dd and say very firmly - you will never be allowed out looking like that Grin

Yanbu. Sometimes when we're walking behind someone dressed like this dd laughs as each bum cheek goes up and down. Not a good look!

In fact DC does wear the short top/leggings combo for one of her dance classes now. Not outside of dance class, however.

Always leggings on their own here!i wear them everyday, have a massive assortment, jeggings, patterned etc, i do think you have to have a good arse shape, not necessarily a size 8 ( i am) ive seen girls who are around a 14 looking so gorgeous showing off toned bums in them too
