If a woman decided prior to baby being born they shouldn't expect the hospital to provide bottles and milk they should bring their own?
Why should the nhs give out milk? aibu?

The maternity unit here didn't supply formula as a rule unless under special circs or if baby was in SCBU when DD1 was born and that was 7 years ago! Don't know the rule now as my last was a HB.
I had a hospital bag ready just in case though and did put formula and bottles in there.

Question for people who used formula provided by hospitals, what did they have? The hospitals I've been to only seemed to provide Cow and Gate and SMA.

LonelyCloud · 01/10/2012 10:40

The SCBU unit DS was in offered the main brands available on the market - Cow & Gate, SMA, Aptimil. They had both the regular from birth formula, and special fortified formula.

That's good.
I think hospitals should provide formula for babies and have to offer all brands, both in disposable presterile style and the option to make up and use sterilisation equiptment for women who might like some help and support in making up and sterilising.

LonelyCloud · 01/10/2012 18:15

Xnedra - The SCBU only had the premade sterile formula available. I guess that's because they didn't want to risk someone making up the powdered formula wrongly, given that the babies they deal with tend to be more vunerable to infection etc.

But they did talk to formula feeding parents about how to make up bottles properly before babies were discharged.

They have formula for emergencies, I planned to breastfeed but DS refused. So, of course, I had no formula. And some of the nurses made such a big deal about it!

Sane here sword. I got it but they weren't allowed to give more than one bottle at a time.

I had to ring and wait and ask. Often got a tut!
