If a woman decided prior to baby being born they shouldn't expect the hospital to provide bottles and milk they should bring their own?

This already happens. I had ds1 8 years ago and I was told this.

Yabvvvu if the hospital does not provide adequate sterilisation facilities than they should give mums ready made bottles with the teat that you can throw away

I live in Australia and when my friend had a baby she had to take formula in . You get nowt for free here.

Oh fgs. Yeah, why give milk to babies, and why feed patients, and why should doctors treat patients. Everyone should do everything themselves.

I do not know the set up at my local hospital regarding formula feeding babies and whether I need to provide formula and bottles for the up coming birth of dc3. I will be asking my midwife next time I see her. I assumed I would just follow what was expected by my local hospital. Is there a reason they shouldn't provide formula for my baby? What else do hospitals normally provide, some cotton wool for bottoms last time? Lasinoh in sachets? I think it's all intended to make birth easier for mums isn't it?

What if a woman knows pror to giving birth that she is not able to bf through no fault of her own ie mastectomy, meds, illness, why should she be penalised for it

Well I went in with no formula and tried to bf but by the time ds was 8 hours old the midwives were insisting I gave him a top up of formula. Explain that one

You have two options when you have a baby. to feed it with boob (milk is there) or feed with bottle. If there are sterlalising facilities then why should the nhs provide milk?
If you go in for a stay meals should be provided of course, Milk is different and it must be a huge cost.

In some areas this is the hapening alread but a baby needs fed they are in a hospital so the NHs should provide bottles should adult patients take in their own food if the NHS decide their diet isn't healthy enough, YABU and trying to stir and arguement

They provide it in those circumstances heir, that happened to me too.

theheirofslytherin that's different. if you can't breast feed because your milk doesn't come in etc then of course. I am talking about women who want to go straight onto a bottle, this is there choice and they should provide.

Why is milk different to food?

That makes no sense.

I don't get it, most hospitals haven't routinely provided formula for years. On exceptional cases eg if baby has a hypo due to mothers diabetes and colostrum alone isn't sufficient to recover it then formula may be offered (ie for medical reasons) but for anything routine they sell the cartons in the hospital shop.

mrsjay I am not trying to stir an argument. Someone in a due in forum thought the hospital should provide milk regardless, I don't unless there are special circumstances.

Me and a friend were both in at same time. Hospital refused to give her milk for baby, made her dh go and buy some. I was given milk but my lo was in sbcu so maybe that's why?
