DP has just announced his parents have booked a last minute caravan in a haven park. I know i'm being stuck up, but I'm really afraid it's going to be filthy! I don't know if i'm more upset about staying in a caravan or the fact I might see FIL in his pants on the way to the bathroom...

Be fair to Haven booomy they tell you to bring your own washing up/laundry items and loo rolls on the website and in the brochure.

apostropheuse · 30/09/2012 23:49

They do indeed littleprincess, and it being a self-catering holiday I think that would be perfectly reasonable!

jellybeans · 30/09/2012 23:53

We've been to loads and never had a problem with the types of people some claim at at these parks. I think that is just snobbery. Only one park was 'lively'. The others were all quiet and full of normal ordinary perfectly respectable people. We tend to go to the smaller parks. Have always had a great time too. Know lots of friends who also go, some on a budget and others well off having it as a second holiday. Never heard any of them say they had a bad time.

booomy · 01/10/2012 00:23

I wasn't moaning about lack of loo roll etc. I was saying that to everyone who commented saying they were going some point soon. Jesus! Sponges are a bizaare thing to take on holiday so I thought I'd mention it!

Love love LOVE the link posters have made between tattoos and piercings and people's behaviour! Terrific! Grin

Taken from Havenholidays.co.uk:

If you forget to bring something with you, don?t worry as most items are available from our Spar convenience stores.

Here is our recommended Holiday Checklist:
Tea Towels
Matches
Towels
Toiletries
Washing up utensils
Linen (if not included)
Toilet rolls
Extra pillows if required
Cot linen (if cot is hired)
Extra blanket in cold season
Your booking confirmation

There we go, a full list. I don't think washing up sponges are a weird thing to need when self catering. But then again I have been a Haven (and prior to that Warner) holidayer since the early 90's. Grin

monkeysbignuts · 01/10/2012 07:42

don't forget bin bags!! those are not provided either

Sirzy · 01/10/2012 07:48

Why are sponges a strange thing to take on a self catering holiday?

Shaky · 01/10/2012 08:19

The first time we went we forgot most of the washing up stuff and loo roll and had to buy it from the spar.

We go prepared now!

diddl · 01/10/2012 08:22

It´s not the off to Haven that would bother me but sharing a caravan, or indeed even being on holiday with ILs.

Sorry, I´m sure that that has been said, but I´ve only just seen the thread.

PickledFanjoCat · 01/10/2012 09:00

It's called self catering for a reason. You never get given a sponge anywhere! Your list of random complaints are getting more bizarre if anything.

PickledFanjoCat · 01/10/2012 09:03

Love it!

Listen harvest it's simple, amongst other things people who have kids under school age don't actually need to pay the extra ro go in school holidays, so why would we?

Bizarre.

freddiefrog · 01/10/2012 09:13

I've been to several of the holiday-park holidays over the years and hated them all, if that makes me a snob then so be it.

I hate the organised entertainment/holiday camp/hi de hi-ness of it all. It's just not my thing at all. I'd rather go camping on a campsite where i can light a fire and drink hot chocolate and toast marshmallows. I've never found them any cheaper than renting a self catering cottage for a week

I hated Centreparcs too

PickledFanjoCat · 01/10/2012 09:26

Not liking holiday camps didn't make you s snob.

Not liking them because people you think are beneath you goes does.

They are not for everyone..

LadyJH · 01/10/2012 09:46

In May I booked two caravans for the second week in Sept. Friends get-together, which I couldn't go to in the end but I did ring Haven Caister a week before to confirm that the caravans would be, if not next door to each other, then quite close. When the group arrived, they were given caravans at opposite ends of the park, and as far away from the entertainment venue as physically possible (and this park is big). As the park was very far from full, they did protest at reception, but the response was 'we can't guarantee caravans booked together will actually be near each other on the park'. One van had a leaky roof and the other blew a lightbulb in the living room each time it was changed. We have made the same booking for the past 14 years and never experienced such customer service failure. Each caravan cost £400 for the week. Never again.

OrangeandGoldMrsDeVere · 01/10/2012 10:29

Well there you go boomy like I said, bit of self loathing projection going on.
That make sme feel so Sad for you.

notshort another one on the way! When did that happen?! Well jell.
Congratulations Grin

OrangeandGoldMrsDeVere · 01/10/2012 10:30

Talking of access ...camber Sands is brilliant for site access but the beach is only accessible for members of the SAS or similar.

FellatioNelson · 01/10/2012 10:35

I see no reason to think the caravan will be filthy. Caravan holidays can be great fun, great for a small budget and children love it.

The only thing you need to be very careful of, with caravan holidays (in my experience) is the location. Pick wrongly and you could be surrounded by people you cross the street to avoid in your own town, so you certainly don't want to rub shoulders with them on your holiday.

OhlimpPricks · 01/10/2012 10:37

Camber sands is lovely. I would always take/use my own washing up sponges at a self catering place. You don't know if the previous user had used them to clean the pram wheels/ wash the dog. Any major supermarket chain does value washing up sponges 20p for half a doze.

OrangeandGoldMrsDeVere · 01/10/2012 10:39

My dearest wish is to own my very own static.
There! I've said it.

Shun me if you will.

FellatioNelson · 01/10/2012 10:48

I won't shun you MrsD. I might set my barbecue up on your little outdoor deck thing though. Where will you have this dream static of yours?

NotShortImFunSized · 01/10/2012 10:49

Haha! I'll book it for a week MrsDV if you can tear yourself away from it for long enough Wink

The bump was a fucking great surprise. Still getting my head around it. Only 11+2 but already had scans and gummy bear is a happy little wriggler Grin

I've always done self catering and always had to take essentials like washing up things. Even at Centre Parcs!

Nowt wrong with a caravan holiday. To be honest I don't think it matters who is there, nobody's asking you to stay in their van with them or cook them dinner are they?!

FellatioNelson · 01/10/2012 10:50

The smirnoff ice is for you, by the way. I don;t drink it. Grin

although I would if I had run out of anything decent

FellatioNelson · 01/10/2012 10:51

By sister is OBSESSED with caravanning. Obsessed, I tell you. They can barely bring themselves to stay at home each weekend.

OrangeandGoldMrsDeVere · 01/10/2012 10:54

It will have a deck of course!
And fairy lights.
And I am going to rip out all the beige dralon and replace it with adorable retro prints.
The fridge will be stuffed with Smirnoff ice.

It's going to be amazing.

And people like the op can kiss my shabby chic, multi childrened, dog owning, caravan loving arse.
