Original thread has reached 1000 messages and cant see another one so hope IANBU to start this, stuck at work and wondering what the press conference has said?

The press conference had his devastated parents begging them to get in touch......tbh I find all the tail chasing in threads a bit Hmm

I do feel sorry for his parents, at the end of the day they will have a mix of emotions to - hes still their son and they will be dealing with a fair share of negative comments to I would imagine.

Apparently there is an arrest warrant for him now, for child abduction. It seems a shaky ground to me, it strikes me that in France it is legal to elope with a 15 year old.

Personally I think the European arrest warrant is a bad idea. They will probably attempt to leave the EU or it will drive them further underground in desperation. This warrant means he will be arrested for child abduction and she will be removed and put into protection, whatever that entails.

As much as I think he made a really bad call and is completely in the wrong for allowing or encouraging her to come away with him I cannot understand the mass hysteria.

Although I'm sure if it were my daughter I would think differently.

Doesn't help, I feel, that his Dad has come on practically saying his son has a screw loose. If it were me, it would make me more determined to bugger off to Thailand or somewhere and try and stay there for a couple of years.

Children go missing in Britain all the time. Vulnerable children, ones who could easily come to harm. Are they allotted such police and media attention?

Equally there are many very violent and nasty criminals on the run - again I have not seen their mugshots on the BBC front page for days on end.

There is something very very wrong with our priorities here. And it's interesting that over the course of today people's attitudes seem to be shifting a touch from 'OMG hang them!' to 'hey, isn't this all getting out of hand'?

I agree with you Aramis. I'm shocked by what a hullabaloo there is. There are far more terrible things happening to children all over this country every single day than a 15-year-old choosing to run off with a 30-year-old. I'm not saying what they've done is right - what he's done is particularly wrong - but the press coverage is waaaay over the top.

It doesn't need to be first item on the news every single night. But it is a serious business and every parent with a daughter that age will be thinking that could have happened to their family. I think if the school were aware of the situation and the teacher was due to be suspended then the parents should have been informed.

eldritch, didnt sound like that to me thats all.

Some of the comments after the story in the DM are rather appalling, not the majority thankfully as it would be deeply depressing to think that some people don't see a relationship between a teacher in a position of trust and a pupil wrong, regardless of their age.

Agree with that maryz. Im not a teacher but this is integral to the teaching profession, in the same way it is integral to my profession of Nursing, its in our code of conduct.

I think any child going missing is terrible, no doubt about that.

What is really terrible here is that the school and the police seem to have known about their 'relationship' but nobody told the parents.

The parents did know, MammaTJ. They all knew. Teachers, parents, local authority, everyone. I guess that's why they did a runner.
