I know this is a contentious subject, and the surrounding comments are best ignored. It's just the video content that appalls me.

OldLady - he probably can't read it but that doesn't mean he can't understand its message - he may well have been told what it says, we don't know.
And what Quirrel says.

I think the message on the card is worse than much of what the 2yo girl was saying on the video.

Yes, it's disgraceful.

For the other side of the coin and to see Christians doing exactly the same thing, watch Jesus Camp.

Telling a child, of any age, that they belong to X religion and must believe xyz is an abuse of their freedom of thought. That the parents happen to see it as "doing the best for their child" is neither here nor there - they need to be disabused of that notion, not encouraged by accommodationists.

No such thing as a "Muslim child". No such thing as a "Christian child" - they are the children of Muslim & Christian parents. Big, big difference.

Thank you all for the comments.
I agree that much of the stuff she was recounting was relatively harmless, but the way that guy was shouting at her to hate jews reminded me of Goebbels.

I've sampled quite a few different religious attitudes but have never seen anything quite so unpleasant being drummed into a young mind.

I question the subtitles. My Arabic isn't great, but I know in several cases that it's been mistranslated.

I thought I would be disgusted by this video but I wasn't really. I really have genuinely seen alot worse (watch Jesus camp!)
Apart from the line about the jews, which was wrong for encouraging prejudice she was just innocently sprouting off 'facts' like reading the alphabet or singing a hymn. The guy may have sounded like he was shouting but she seemed happy enough and was genuinely pleased with herself at the end. In general any kind of brainwashing of the young to believe fiction as fact leaves a nasty taste in my mouth but I don't think this child was exactly being trained in terrorism or even emotionally abused ( believe in Allah or you WILL burn in hell etc!!) No I dont agree with it, but I don't think its any more remarkable than what goes on in most religious households.

No Freudian it' NOT another Muslim bashing thread.

As you will have seen if you'd read my posts properly I have been careful to say that ANY religion would be wrong to do this. If somewhere a jewish child is being taught to hate moslems, that is equally wrong.

I would refer you to the title of the other thread.

Oh my god she is seriously cute.

Sorry I know that isn't the answer you wanted though

So just asked my Muslim co-workers, and the reason the response to "Who were struck by Allah's wrath." is "Jews" is because it refers to a part of the Quran which basically says that the Jews were Allah's chosen people, but then they started worshiping a golden calf, etc etc, so Allah punished them.

I can't get worked up about this. Plenty of parents do much worse things that are far more worthy of attention.

Oh please where did you find this little gem google search, dm or was it sent to you by another I am so worried how these poor Muslim children are brainwashed

A little more research you will find how some Israeli children are taught to hate palestinians and many are treated no better than animals because those children grow up and have the power to take out their hate yet isralie bashing is not as popular is it

What possessed you to look for that on youtube?

Did you wake up and think "Aha, I'm going to look for a video to get angry about....hmmm, I will type in brainwashed child and see what pops up!"

Any form of brainwashing is wrong whether in the name of "religion" or not. Therefore this in my opinion is wrong.

Freudian
If you're not going to read my replies there's no point in conversing with you.

I didn't search for it, I was looking at something quite unrelated and it appeared on the pop-ups.

Thank you. My point exactly.

I started this thread with the intention of NOT having a one-sided argument. But since others are insisting on inserting their own bias I am leaving it there.

Clearly it's not possible to talk about such matters without being sidelined by prejudice.

Nah, can't get worked up about this either.

Let people believe what they like. When they start firebombing stuff, I'll get aerated....

The parent wasn't making the child recite the times table here you know. OP I'm with you on this 100% and it's very wrong.

My opion on religion is it's man made for the purpose of control. This is a prime example of it being used in just such a manner.

Report
CakeBump · 26/09/2012 11:38

But people can believe what they like so long as it doesn't hurt anyone else.

So what?

Reminds me of my catholic junior school to be honest.

The bit about the jews etc, is (presumably, my Islam is a little bit patchy) taken from the Qu'ran.

It's too easy to look at isolated parts of other cultures and drawn Christian-centric or Western-centric (the correct word is eluding me) conclusions where they are not relevant or accurate imo.

It's a little girl reciting tenets of her faith. Meh.

Exactly seeker, it's no different.

I am a bit baffled by the argument that seems to run:

Behaviour A is acceptable because it's similar to Behaviour B

Surely

Beahviour A is unacceptable and therefore so is Behaviour B

would be more appropriate? i.e. the religion doesn't matter.

It's not a nice thing to teach a child something like that, no matter what your religion. I didn't watch the whole clip but I gather there is some hateful stuff nearer the end.
