I was struck off as a blood donor today as I have become allergic to the skin cleansing solution, after giving blood for 23 years. So I felt I should try to recruit a replacement.

Anyone willing to give blood instead of me? (subject of course to health reasons/previous transfusions/dodgy lifestyles etc)

Thanks!

I'd love to give blood but it makes me sooooo ill.

Completely drains me and I have no energy for about a week.

Understand how you feel.

PurplePidjin · 25/09/2012 18:21

I already give, but am currently pg so also off the list (hopefully temporarily)

kinkyfuckery · 25/09/2012 18:22

I am already a donor. Currently out of it since having a tattoo in April, but have the date marked down for when I can start again.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 25/09/2012 18:23

I can't because of the medication I take Sad.

I'm sure you will get lots of volunteers though.

Good idea by the way Smile.

Whatdoiknowanyway · 25/09/2012 18:23

Just started back as a donor this year. I stopped whilst I had young children/elderly father to care for as it did leave me with absolutely no energy but DC are now grown up and I'm back on the register.

LondonInBoots · 25/09/2012 18:24

That's a lovely idea. I'll do it - been meaning to get round to giving blood for a LOT longer than I'd care to admit!

Sirzy · 25/09/2012 18:25

I would but my blood isn't good enough :(

BadgersRetreat · 25/09/2012 18:29

they don't want mine coz the Canadian blood service say the Brits and the French have CJD and they don't want it, thanks

wish i was kidding

I have tried and been turned down for about 30 years sonnet much chance of me taking your place even though in would love to!

nokidshere · 25/09/2012 18:47

*so not.. Not sonnet

OddGoldBoots · 25/09/2012 18:53

They stopped accepting me as I have had another woman's eggs inside me so if there is someone else who would take my place too that would be great.

Bless his heart my dad donates platelets every couple of weeks so he says he's trying to do my bit too.

fuckbadger · 25/09/2012 20:37

Lovely thread! I already donate but have had a break recently due to pregnancy Grin . I'm due to donate again in a few weeks.

MyLastDuchess · 25/09/2012 20:41

I can't as I have had a transfusion (due to serious PPH when DS was born). Big thanks to you and all other donors, it really does make such a big difference to so many lives.

RuleBritannia · 25/09/2012 20:42

I was a donor and gained my 50+ donation certyificate and brooch at a presentation in Swindon. I felt so proud. Once I started to take aspiring though, I had to give up. If you take any medication at all, they won't have your blood. I could tell lies I suppose and say that I take no medicine but I have to think about the recipient so I don't.

RuleBritannia · 25/09/2012 20:42

*aspirin

RuleBritannia · 25/09/2012 20:42

Oh dear! *certificate

xelliex · 25/09/2012 20:46

Aspirin and most medications don't stop you donating - the reason you are taking the medications might though.

InvisibleHotPinkWeasel · 25/09/2012 20:47

I'm off next week to drop off a pint Smile

Vagaceratops · 25/09/2012 20:48

I cant because as I had a blood transfusion in 1998.

I would love to though.

HenriettaChicken · 25/09/2012 20:49

I'll give it a go. Haven't given blood before a I'm a big wuss, but had a baby 5 months ago and found out I'm O- which is the universal donor.

My wussiness needs to go jump: if I can get through labour I can get through this! Thanks for giving me the push I need. (obviously once baby is old enough...I think it's 6 months, right?)

RuleBritannia · 25/09/2012 20:51

xelliex

I'll ring up and try again then. Thanks for that. There's nothing wrong with me.

elfycat · 25/09/2012 20:51

Oh go on then. I used to do it but stopped, then had DDs and bf, but that stopped earlier this year. I've no excuse not to and I've put enough of the stuff up on patients over the years.

I'll take your place.
