to ask how you feel about Scottish Independence?

Particularly looking for opinions from South of the Border, but all opinions welcome. My FB is awash with Independence fever after the rally in Edinburgh yesterday. As a Scotwoman I am always interested to hear the views of the English and get that perspective. I'll not disclose whether I'm pro or anti as I suppose it's not relevant here, also not looking for a bunfight! Care to share?

Could not care less. English here.

catgirl1976 · 23/09/2012 11:20

No feelings either way (English) Just not something I care about. I don't meant that disrepsectfully, it just doesn' t feature on my radar

chocoluvva · 23/09/2012 11:20

I'm scottish but not a scot - different area of scotland.
Won't be voting in favour of independence.

LadyBeagleEyes · 23/09/2012 11:24

I'm Scottish and haven't decided yet, I have to look at all the pros and cons.
I do worry that because of voting patterns down south we'll always have a Tory government, which does not represent Scotland at all.
Thank fuck we have a Scottish Parliament.

Sallyingforth · 23/09/2012 11:24

If Scottish people want independence that is their right. But it must be total and not pick and choose. First thing you must do is create your own currency and exchange rates, or join the euro. Good luck with that.

CanIOfferYouAPombear · 23/09/2012 11:25

I don't care either way. If Scotland wants to be independent then that's up to them.

PicklesThePottyMouthedParrot · 23/09/2012 11:26

As long as we get Scottishmummy I don't mind.

freddiefrog · 23/09/2012 11:26

If Scotland wants to be independant, then that's up to them (English)

Softlysoftly · 23/09/2012 11:29

English in Wales here but go to Scotland every year fishing.

On one hand I think that as long as subsidies are cut from England too then fine, on the other id have to have a passport and new currency for Scotkand which would be a pita, I also would be sad a beautiful place is no longer part of the Unitked Kingdom, which is seen as a strong union abroad, I think the meld enriches us all.

Ultimately I'm not Scottish and therefore im not knowledgeable enough to decide.

I do know independence would be a disaster for Wales!

Softlysoftly · 23/09/2012 11:30

What's with the random k's?!

BiscuitNibbler · 23/09/2012 11:30

I couldn't care less, and I think that goes for the majority of English people.

Agree it has to be an all or nothing thing though. You can't be independent and still requiring subsidies.

I could be persuaded to care if it would mean my mother being forcibly repatriated, however.

I'm Scottish and think it's the worst possible thing for the country, even though I now live south of the border.

OptimisticPessimist · 23/09/2012 11:35

English in Scotland. Currently undecided but edging towards voting in favour of independence.

You shouldn't need a passport to travel between England and Scotland, especially if both remain/become EU members. Shops could use dual currency like they do in NI if Scotland does end up using a different currency.

I would like answers to all the EU questions though - would Scotland have to take the Euro as many seem to think? And would the rest of the UK have to reapply as I've seen suggested? Personally I'd prefer Scotland to develop its own currency (Scottish sterling or similar) and to have a limited membership of the EU - I think I've read that some of the Scandinavian countries have a relationship with the EU but are not members? I can't see Eck going for that though, and he'll be the one negotiating the separation agreement from the Scottish side.

cocoaGOLDchannel · 23/09/2012 11:36

I'm English and feel it would be a real shame to break up the Union, and will be very sad if it happens, but ultimately it is the decision of the people of Scotland.

aldiwhore · 23/09/2012 11:38

I can't say its something I think about too much. If the Scottish people want it then I think its a good thing, and we can still be 'united' in some ways... it a nrighbourly way.

I'm not sure from what I've read if its the best thing for Scotlan economically, but thats for them to decide.

fluffyraggies · 23/09/2012 11:41

Another one for all or nothing here.

Another one for shame to break up the union too. Although i don't think the union is going to last forever anyway.

English.

greenfern · 23/09/2012 11:41

I am scottish and will not be voting for independence.

TheCrackFox · 23/09/2012 11:51

I'm Scottish and will be voting against independence.

Latara · 23/09/2012 11:53

I'm English & live in England.

I had one Scottish great-grandparent & my curly hair is HIS fault!!

But basically my Dad says that Great-Grandad was a Trade Unionist with a real sense of justice & fairness; in photos from the 40s he looks like a charming & nice man with a sense of fun too.

One of my (English) Uncles now lives in Glasgow with his Scottish girlfriend; he lived in Wales for years with his ex-wife. He's made good friends all over the UK & loves being British (not just English).

I would be upset if Scotland gained independence - it would be a shame after so many years of shared history (some good, some bad obviously).
I like being part of a United Kingdom.
I've liked most people i've met from other parts of Britain & like being linked with them. Many English people i know are part Scottish, Irish or Welsh.

But if we stay together as the UK then it would be good to see the same laws apply to all parts of the UK - i like the Scottish laws on free elderly care & tuition fees applied to England; for example (& i know that many English people feel that way too.)

Vinomcstephens · 23/09/2012 11:58

I'm Scottish, living in England, and I think Scottish independence is possibly the worst idea I've ever heard. Seriously, we need to get over it - Scotland hardly has a thriving vibrant boom economy as it is and breaking away from England - oh yes, that'll really make all the difference. Can't believe how blinkered a lot of the Scottish are being. But hey ho, that's just my tuppence worth Smile

stargirl1701 · 23/09/2012 11:58

Bored. It's still 2 bloody years away. Can't be arsed with it and I'm usually into politics.

I'm Scottish living in Scotland.

Prarieflower · 23/09/2012 11:59

I'm English(have lived in Scotland, lovely country) and I'm in two minds. I'd prefer Scotland to go their own way so they can fund their own choices eg prescription fees, student fees(hacks me off that we don't get the same)and perhaps finally give up on the English bashing when it suits.

However I'd like it to be total,no picking and choosing. As Sally says choose own exchange rate, currency etc.

My misgivings re this are that I wonder if at the moment we're stronger together than apart.

Mibby · 23/09/2012 12:00

DH is scottish and was at the rally yesterday, hes in favour of independance. Im english and as yet undecided

LucieMay · 23/09/2012 12:00

Couldn't care less, up to them! Wish they'd get it over and done with and have a vote!
