to think that there is NEVER an acceptable reason to call a 32 year old woman a "young girl?"

No I'm not.

I couldn't care less what emotive flannel is flung about.

IT. IS.NOT.ACCEPTABLE.

The end.

Blistory

But she may have just one back to it.
It is difficult when a thread changes pace/tone.
I am not fucking senior prefect or anything. But it did jar.i don't think she has been deliberately rude.
She is just always polite and tries to talk around a discussion. I think it was really harsh

Pagwatch · 21/09/2012 19:50

I think people just got all exhausted and full up with cross.the cross is bursting out all randomly. That's all.

TheBigJessie · 21/09/2012 19:52

Passive-aggressively rotten dialogues

Hullygully · 21/09/2012 19:53

Well (oh fuck) Blistory has been staunchly fair and calm throughout the whole thread and polite and reasonable and presumably she and James don't know each other as we know James...and the first post James addressed to her was unfair and James did apologise for it and I don't quite understand how it got to this..

Honestly, there must have been a terrible misunderstanding, I promise both of you.

OP posts:
Hullygully · 21/09/2012 19:55

I solemnly swear neve to start another thread yes I expect that's a lie

OP posts:
Pagwatch · 21/09/2012 19:56

Yes. I think the thread is full of misunderstandings.

CaptainVonTrapp · 21/09/2012 19:58

Good God they've got vans and everything (hire a hubby) it makes my skin crawl. "ooh well done boys those shelves are so neat... how much for extras?" vomits

QuickLookBusy · 21/09/2012 19:59

Limited no you didn't accuse me of being hysterical. But I didn't accuse you of saying that. I've just checked my post and I said "yesterday we were told we were getting hysterical". I did not mean that to be directed to you and if you thought that I apologise.

I do realise that in other posts I was less than polite. Again I apologise. I thought you were having a go at me and others. I think Pag is right when she says there's a lot of misunderstandings and misreading going on around this subject.

Hullygully · 21/09/2012 19:59

YES GROUP HUG and more peace pipe

quick

gordyslovesheep · 21/09/2012 20:00

probably thought it would appeal to us 'young girls' and 'little ladies' who can't stop thinking of puppies and embroidery long enough to work out how to change a fuse

Blistory · 21/09/2012 20:01

Blistory for some reason, I find your post to Jamie really offensive. In fact, I nearly typed some things I have never said on any forum, ever. But my conscience the dames in my head said, "leave it, she's not worth it".

leave it, she's not worth it again for emphasis - there's a fucking person on the other side, THAT WOULD BE ME THAT YOU'VE DEEMED NOT WORTH IT.

Bugger off and leave me alone.

gordyslovesheep · 21/09/2012 20:01

I don't do hugs - have a group wave from a distance

TheBigJessie · 21/09/2012 20:01

Would it be libel if I posted that I thought they might be call-boys, too? Gentleman of the night?

aldiwhore · 21/09/2012 20:03

I think its pretty offensive to both genders isn't it?! (avoids the 'young girls' part as well in that context I agree with the patronising tone, but am refusing to go there as feeling fluffy and full of love after off loading my range on some Hubby For Hire).

For them, a woman needs a man to change a fuse, and a man is good for nothing else but to be put in a uniform and change plugs. Its a offensive bullseye!

TuftyFinch · 21/09/2012 20:04

It's like Tess of the bloody D'urbervillees all over again. Will someone look under the bloody door mat?? Now. Before it's too late.

Hullygully · 21/09/2012 20:05

Now look here.

Blistory was unfairly singled out by dear James for reasons that will hopefully become clear in the fullness. Possibly just terrible misunderstandings.

Meanwhile Blistory is a jolly Good Egg and wrote what she wrote after considerable provocation and it wasn't particularly offensive anyway

Blistory has kept her cool when others haven't and she doesn't deserve that.

'Young girls' bobby' 'chatterbox'. The whole way their deaths were reported is paternalistic and demeaning and made me cringe. They were there in a professional capacity as police and their fellow officers made them sound silly and naive. shame on them and the way this has been reported.

Hullygully · 21/09/2012 20:05

yy The sodding door mat

OP posts:
liability · 21/09/2012 20:06

In addition to the above to be honest 'our boys' when talking about soldiers makes me cringe too.

CaptainVonTrapp · 21/09/2012 20:08

Also, Hully is right. In everything.

Especially this

He is an old school dinosaur embedded in a sexist culture that has yet to join the modern world

Lets not pretend this was a clever tactic quickly devised after a discussion about semantics and psychology, how best to garner support from the public and locals etc He's just another old fashioned man in a position of authority.

I love that someones Gran goes to the 'Old Girls' club. This is a funny and appropriate use of the word girls in women over 18 years of age. Clearly they already know that...

takes breath, takes pipe, sips wine

LongTimeLurking · 21/09/2012 20:10

I think young lady or young man is OK if it coming from someone of pensionable age. Boy/Girl when taking about an adult is just not right IMO. Also like the previous poster I hate the 'our boys' crap as well.

TheBigJessie · 21/09/2012 20:12

It was actually intended to mock myself. Ever walked past a drunken group of blokes and dames? The blokes are having a fight and being annoying aggressive, and there's some dame telling her boyfriend, "Leave it, he's not worth it", instead of saying, "grow up, or I'll leave you, you bastard". Surely you must've? It's a staple of vaguely classist, gloomy dramas/soaps.

limitedperiodonly · 21/09/2012 20:13

Thanks QLB.

I don't smoke but I'm going to have a roll up made from the coconut rolling tabaccy they sold children when I was little and they used to give you lead paint toys to suck.

limitedperiodonly · 21/09/2012 20:16

I only met blistory yesterday but I liked her enough to send her a rare PM of thanks.

No, I'm not telling you what was in it.

Pagwatch · 21/09/2012 20:18

I am completely happy to think that Blistory is a Good Sort.

(it's all Hullys fault)
